TMS treatment for OCD - first course

Smart TMS provides a treatment option for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), which is a non-intrusive procedure that employs magnetic pulses to stimulate the specific regions of the brain to stop the cycle of obsessions and compulsions.

How does Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) work for the treatment of OCD?

Conventional treatments for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), such as psychotherapy and antidepressant medication, don’t work for around 40% of people who have obsessive compulsive disorder.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a new way of treating OCD. It’s a therapy that doesn’t involve surgery or drugs, but uses magnetic waves to relax the parts of your brain that cause you to have obsessive and compulsive thoughts and behaviours.

What should I expect from the TMS treatments for OCD?

To complete the OCD treatment with Smart TMS, you may need up to 30 sessions. These are divided into three parts of ten sessions each.

You will have the sessions over three to six weeks, and sometimes you may have more than one session in a day. Each session will last no more than 30 minutes.

Following each transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) session, you will have a review with a leading clinician.

How effective is the TMS treatment for OCD?

Research shows that 6 out of 10 people with resistant OCD who receive TMS treatment with Smart TMS will benefit from the treatment, with a reduction of symptoms.

3 out of 10 people will go into remission.

TMS is beneficial compared to medication, as there are fewer side-effects.

However, treatment results may vary between individuals according to their own experience of the condition.

How much does TMS treatment for OCD cost?

The transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment for OCD typically takes 30 sessions.

The first course of 10 sessions at Smart TMS London costs £3000.

All patients are required to have an initial assessment with one of the consultants at Smart TMS before commencing with the TMS treatment. An initial assessment costs £350.

Please note that treatment cannot commence until forms and an assessment have been completed with a clinician to ensure that the treatment is right for you.
