"Cardiology then came Covid-19" by Professor Constantinos Missouris, Clinical Professor of Cardiology, Department of Basic and Clinical Sciences, University of Nicosia Medical School In his presentation Professor Missouris will outline his clinical and academic career thus far and will touch upon his research in the areas of: Renovascular disease – mechanisms and cardiovascular implications Pathophysiology and mechanisms and new interventions in chronic heart failure Pathophysiology and mechanisms of COVID-19 particularly in the respiratory cardiovascular systems ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Constantinos (Dinos) Missouris is a Professor of Clinical Cardiology at the University of Nicosia Medical School. He is also working as a Consultant Physician/Cardiologist at Frimley Health NHS Trust, and the Imperial School of Medicine London and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust London. Since his appointment at Frimley Health NHS Trust, he was instrumental in developing a state of the art coronary care unit, cardiac catheterisation laboratory, cardiac investigations unit, and increased the profile of cardiology in East Berkshire. Within a short period of time he facilitated the developed coronary angiography, coronary artery angioplasty, pacemaker, ICD and biventricular implantation. Professor Missouris has wide experience in clinical cardiology, including the management of hypertension and other risk factors, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and structural heart disease. Furthermore, he has gained wide experience in most cardiac modalities including 2-dimensional echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography. He was trained by Professor Donald King in 3-dimensional echocardiography at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre, New York and Klinikum Steglitz, Free University of Berlin. Professor Missouris has performed and published important academic research while working in the following internationally renowned units for research into cardiac and cardiovascular diseases, the Blood Pressure Unit, and the Department of Cardiology St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, and the Imperial School of Medicine, London. During this time, he has explored many methodological approaches to the study of the heart. In addition, he obtained experience in the diagnosis, epidemiology, treatment and prevention of atheromatous vascular disease. He has established collaborative research at a national and international level and published widely in peer review journals (more than 130 publications). He is an experienced lecturer with contributions to national and international postgraduate and academic meetings. He was invited to give numerous clinical and scientific presentations in the UK, Australia, USA, and Europe.
