Breast augmentation surgery, otherwise known as breast enlargement surgery, remains increasingly popular in the UK, with many women saying that it helps to boost self-confidence. Breast implants are the most popular kind of cosmetic surgery, with the procedure being not only used to increase the size of the breasts, but also the shape.

How long does breast augmentation surgery take?

Breast enlargement surgery usually takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to complete and can be done as day case surgery, meaning the procedure is performed in a day and the patient can return home afterwards. Some procedures may require an overnight stay in hospital.

How long is the recovery time for breast surgery?

Following breast augmentation surgery, the recovery time is usually as follows:

  • 4-5 days – the pain usually settles down
  • After 1 week – the patient can return to work in most cases
  • After 2 weeks – the incisions have usually healed
  • After 4 weeks – Patients can return to strenuous exercise
  • Up to 6 months – It may take up to 6 months in some patients for the swelling to settle and the implants to soften, and the final result to be seen.

Where is the scar, and how big is it?

The entire surgery is performed through an inconspicuous small incision at the bottom of the breast in the breast fold. The incision is 3 - 4.5cm in length.

What kind of implants are used for the surgery?

The selection of the implant is individualised to a patient based on their goals and requirements as well as their body measurements.

Breast Implants come in two different shapes, round and tear-drop, and in many different sizes.

How much does breast augmentation surgery cost?

Breast augmentation surgery with Mr William Townley usually costs around £5,000
