Sciatica is characterised by pain which radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve. It runs from the lower back, through the hips, and down each leg. Sciatica is often caused by compression or irritation of the nerve due to conditions such as a herniated disc, bone spur, or spinal stenosis. Patients experiencing sciatica may wonder if this painful condition can go away on its own or whether medical intervention is necessary.
