Cellulite is a common condition that often appears on the thighs and buttocks and resembles the surface of an orange – light dimples. Although cellulite can happen in men and women, it is much more common in women and affects 80-90% of women in their lifetime. This is thought to be due to the differences in muscle and fat distribution in females. Although cellulite is not life-threatening at all, it can cause some women embarrassment and low self-esteem.
Dr Firas Al-Niaimi, a leading dermatologist, treats cellulite using mesotherapy – a safe and minimally-invasive treatment. Mesotherapy involves the injecting of a special blend of vitamins, hormones and enzymes that rejuvenates the skin and eliminates excess fat.
What causes cellulite?
Little is known about what causes cellulite. It involves fibrous connective cords that tether the skin to the underlying muscle, with the fat lying in-between. As fat cells accumulate with weight gain, they push up against the skin, while the long, tough cords pull down. This tension creates an uneven surface or dimpling.
What is mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is treatment that helps with skin rejuvenation and body contouring. Compared to treatments that might just mask concerns like cellulite, mesotherapy addresses the source of the problem. Successful mesotherapy is based on the level of personalisation applied to the treatment, which Dr Al-Niaimi achieves by customising the blend of ingredients to meet each patient’s needs and expectations.
What does mesotherapy involve?
A unique blend of ingredients is injected into the middle layer of the skin using very fine needles multiple times. If needed, a numbing agent can be applied to the skin beforehand.
How long does mesotherapy treatment take?
A single session takes between 30 – 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
What can I expect from my mesotherapy treatment?
Results from mesotherapy are gradual and become more evident after each treatment session. Most patients will schedule repeat treatments at regular intervals. Once the results begin to show, fewer sessions are needed as the skin starts to appear more firm and youthful.
What is the recovery time after mesotherapy?
As this procedure is minimally-invasive, downtime is minimal. There might be some discomfort and swelling in the treatment area within the first 24 hours, however, most patients are able to continue their daily activities without any problems.
Who is suitable for mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is certainly not a substitute for healthy weight loss, however, it might be appropriate if you are looking to contour and rejuvenate your skin and you are already a healthy weight.
