As the prevalence of obesity increases, so do the variety of methods available to treat obesity, and body contouring has become one of the most popular aesthetic procedures available worldwide. Body contouring techniques, which use different methods to remove unwanted fat or excess skin and achieve a preferable shape and appearance, have been improved greatly, with high rates of success.

However, as these techniques improve, people are looking for more non-invasive techniques of body contouring to avoid scarring, swelling, skin necrosis, and contour irregularities that are a risk of invasive techniques. Leading consultant plastic surgeon, Mr Giovanni Ferrando takes a look at a new technique in non-invasive body contouring called SlimMe that aims to achieve that.

What is SlimMe and how does it work?

SlimMe is a new, non-invasive technology used for body contouring and fat reduction using ultrasound technology. It is an alternative and effective non-invasive treatment alongside other non-invasive techniques such as cryolipolysis, radiofrequency lipolysis, and other ultrasound technologies.

Unlike other forms of ultrasound technology for fat removal, which use low power ultrasound, SlimMe uses uniform ultrasound levels which more effectively break up and destroy the fat cells in the subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) layer. High power ultrasound technology would be too hot and is damaging the skin layer.

The procedure involves using the SlimMe device to suction a portion of skin, while six multidirectional ultrasound beams are aimed at the skin and thermally destroy the fat cells. A water-cooling system is used to keep the area cool.

What happens after SlimMe treatment?

Following the treatment, in the next week, the fat may appear coagulated, lumpy, bumpy, and perhaps red spots may appear on the skin. Within three months following treatment, the fat will be totally absorbed, and an even, contoured appearance will be left.

Where can SlimMe be used on the body?

SlimMe can effectively remove fat from most areas of the body where fatty deposits appear, such as the tummy, hips, waist, thighs, upper and lower back, bottom, and arms.

What are the benefits of SlimMe?

SlimMe effectively eliminates up to 5cm of fat on the area treated, and removes the fat that exercise and dieting cannot reach.

Due to the treatment being non-invasive, it is safe and only takes a short amount of time, with minimal discomfort to the patient.
