In one of our latest medical articles below, revered pain medicine specialist, Dr Mohammed Qureshi, discusses joint pain at length, including the main causes and treatment options.

What are the main causes of joint pain?

Joint pain is a common problem that can affect people of all ages. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including injury, inflammation, and disease. Some of the most common causes of joint pain include arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, and gout

What are the most common conditions that affect the joints?

Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation in the joints. There are many different types of arthritis, but the most common are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear on the joints over time, while rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to attack its own joints.

Bursitis is a condition that causes inflammation in the bursae, which are small fluid-filled sacs that cushion the joints. Tendinitis is a condition that causes inflammation in the tendons, which are the tissues that connect muscles to bones. Gout is a type of arthritis that is caused by a build-up of uric acid crystals in the joints.

What are the treatment options for joint pain?

Treatment for joint pain depends on the underlying cause. In some cases, rest and over-the-counter pain medications may be enough to relieve the pain. In other cases, more aggressive treatment may be necessary. This may include physical therapy, prescription medications, image-guided injections, or, in some cases, even surgery.
