Top Doctors recently spoke to Dr Fareeha Rizvi, an esteemed and highly experienced consultant in diabetes, endocrinology, and general medicine. Here, Dr Rizvi provides a comprehensive overview of what a diabetic reversal programme is.

What is involved in a diabetes reversal programme?

Diabetes is a disease of the modern lifestyle. My signature diet and lifestyle programme focuses on education and identifying areas where people can make small, but significant changes to improve all aspects of their health, as well as reverse their diabetes.

Who are the most suitable candidates for a diabetes reversal programme?

Anyone who has been told they have pre-diabetes on a HbA1c blood test that ranges from 42-47mmol in the last year. People with type 2 diabetes diagnosed within the last month, with a HbA1c between 48-60mmol are also suitable candidates.

How effective is a diabetes reversal programme?

Many studies have shown that with structured dietary support, expert coaching and guidance, around 30 to 50 per cent of people can reverse their pre-diabetes/type 2 diabetes if they follow the plan as outlined.

How long does a diabetes reversal programme typically last?

My signature programme lasts for three months.

Do some people need to attend more than one diabetes reversal programme?

If you are able to adopt the eating and lifestyle habits outlined in the pre-diabetes/type 2 diabetes reversal programme, we would hope that you would not need another such programme.
