In this article below, revered aesthetic medicine specialist, Dr Rasheed Mosaheb, details what thread lifts are, and tells us if people can achieve a natural look after having one done.

Will a thread lift look natural?

Yes. A thread lift will look absolutely natural in the sense that, with ageing, there is a descent of tissues in the face by the jaw. The thread lift repositions the tissue along the jaw line. A thread lift can restore the previous shape of the person's face, achieving a natural and more youthful look.

Thread lifts can also greatly benefit the neck, as the jawline will be enhanced. As a result, the neck will have more volume. For people fearing having a swollen face after undergoing a thread lift, don't worry, this cannot happen. Obviously patients will suffer from a bit of swelling for the first few days after surgery, but once the swelling has subsided, a natural-looking face will be there for the patient to see.

How long does a thread lift take?

Depending on the areas of concern, a thread lift for the face takes about 30 minutes. We pretty much need the same amount of time for a neck thread lift, but if we are doing both the face and neck, we will require about an hour and a half.

Is a thread lift right for me?

For those who have signs of ageing, a thread lift can help make people look younger in a natural way. It can greatly delay the ageing process in the face and neck.

How long do thread lift results last?

Some thread lifts last up to six months, but the ones that I perform last up to two years if patients follow the right follow-up care plan. If there is a lot of collagen production, thread lifts can last up to two and a half to three years in some cases.

What is the difference between a thread lift and a facelift?

A thread lift is repositioning tissue within a thread (suture). A surgical facelift is a very invasive procedure. A thread lift does not require any major rfecovery time, whilst facelifts require multiple months of recovery.

What happens after a thread lift procedure?

Depending on your specific case, we advise you not to have exagerrated mouth movement such as chewing on gum or nuts. There is a bit of swelling and bruising, which both settle within a few weeks. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided for a week or two after having a thread lift.
