Dr Rachel Fisher is a highly skilled consultant dermatologist, with over 10 years of experience, based in Reading. She possesses extensive knowledge in the field of dermatology, with expertise in basal cell carcinoma, cryotherapy and eczema, alongside psoriasis, skin infections and alopecia.
Dr Fisher completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Bristol in 2009. She then pursued post-graduate training and spent a year as a teaching fellow in Birmingham, educating medical students in dermatology and general medicine before undertaking a 6-month post as a senior house officer in dermatology at Kings Hospital, London.
Following this post, Dr Fisher commenced her specialist training in dermatology in the Thames Valley Deanery. She takes a keen interest in medical education, obtaining a masters in medical education from Warwick University in 2021. She has held several positions working to educate future doctors and allied health professionals, including being the registrar dermatology undergraduate lead at Oxford University, working as the educational supervisor for medical students and Thames Valley dermatology trainees and being involved in the dermatology teaching as part of the Reading University Physicians Associate training. More recently she has been part of the team running regular primary care dermatology education and engagement sessions in and around Reading.
Furthermore, she is committed to research. As part of her master’s degree, she looked at how dermatology training in teledermatology can be effectively delivered. She has also been the principal investigator in a large research project looking at co-existing skin cancers in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, which was published in an international journal in 2021. She is currently actively involved in the research dermatology team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and is the co-investigator in a large placebo-controlled study.
Dr Fisher is dedicated to delivering a world-class standard of care to her patients, ensuring that they feel relaxed and comfortable during the whole treatment process. She is extremely thorough and spends time ensuring patients are fully informed and involved in treatment decisions. She treats both adults and children.
She has also held several coveted positions including the role of national dermatology flexible trainee representative, the British Journal of Dermatology (BJD) peer reviewer and the Hereford and Worcester Deanery representative.
