Blackouts are very common and many people will experience them at least once during their lifetime. In the majority of cases these are simple faints (also known as “vasovagals” or “reflex syncope”). These can be triggered by hot weather or if you are dehydrated. They are usually harmless and can be managed with lifestyle changes. This person has atrial fibrillation. This can increase the risk of clots forming in the heart which can cause a stroke. This is seen here on this person’s echocardiogram (heart scan).
