Professor David Smith is an extensively skilled consultant cardiologist in Swansea and a subspecialist in interventional cardiology.
Professor Smith has spent more than 20 years investigating and diagnosing patients with a wide range of symptoms, including breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations and blackouts. He is an expert in all aspects of cardiology, including angina, valvular heart disease and heart attacks. In fact, he works for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as an expert advisor in the management of heart attacks.
He is extensively trained in numerous procedures and is known for his proficiency in both routine and complex angioplasty, as well as and TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation). Not only has Professor Smith taught operators around the world how to perform the TAVI procedure, but he has also helped establish Morriston Hospital as a European centre of excellence. Additionally, he has contributed to medical research through investigations into heart attacks, acute coronary syndromes and aortic valve disease.
