Dr George Bownes (FFSEM) is an expert in sport and exercise medicine who will see and treat a range of sport and musculoskeletal injuries such as back pain, neck pain, knee pain including ACL injuries, meniscal injuries, osteoarthritis, tendinopathies and bone stress injuries.
Having trained in Oxford, he has gained a wide variety of sport and exercise medicine-related experience working in high performance sport at Chelsea Football Club and Southampton Football Club. As club doctor for Harlequins Rugby Club, he helped them become current Gallagher Premiership Champions.
He is also a tournament physician for the tennis players at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for the tennis Wimbledon Championships. Previously, he worked for the England Institute of Sport for many years, gaining a vast amount of experience in a range of Olympic sports including athletics, swimming, hockey, rowing, modern pentathlon, triathlon and skeleton, where he was the chief medical officer for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Dr George Bownes has also, to-date, worked extensively for the military at DMRC Headley Court and DMRC Stanford Hall, treating a range of complex sports injuries.
