Dr Maresa Carulli is a distinguished consultant rheumatologist known for her expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of rheumatic conditions, including osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, scleroderma, fibromyalgia, back pain, neck pain, and connective tissue disease.
Dr Maresa Carulli attended the University of Medicine and Surgery in Modena, Italy where she qualified with top honours in 1992. She moved to London In 1994 to pursue research in rheumatology at the Royal Free Hospital and completed her training in General Medicine and Rheumatology at the London South Deanery. During this time she obtained a MSc in Rheumatology with distinction from King’s College, and afterwards she completed a 2-year MD awarded by the University College of London for a thesis written on scleroderma.
She was appointed as a General Physician and Rheumatologist at Hammersmith Hospital Imperial College NHS trust in 2008. Here, she has developed the general rheumatology service and the specialist service in scleroderma, focusing on the interface with the pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease clinic. She is an active member of the UK Scleroderma study group and has been recently been involved in the drawing up the current BSR guideline for the treatment of Raynaud’s and Scleroderma. In addition to this she has an important role in teaching of undergraduates and is currently Unit Training Lead for Imperial College London's Rheumatology department.
