Dr Michael Perkin is a distinguished consultant paediatric allergist, with over 30 years of experience, based in Surrey and London. His areas of expertise encompass food allergies, immunotherapy, hay fever, respiratory allergy, allergy prevention and lactose intolerance.
Graduating from St George’s, University of London, Michael achieved distinctions in both medicine and surgery. His academic journey included pursuing an intercalated degree in Epidemiology, where he earned the Polock Prize for achieving the highest first class degree in the Medical School. His clinical training in Paediatrics took place within the South London Paediatric training rotation. Subsequently, he was honoured with a prestigious Wellcome Training Fellowship in clinical epidemiology, during which he conducted research leading to a PhD focused on allergy in farming children in Shropshire.
Dr Perkin is devoted to research, and his contributions to the field are extensive, with nearly 100 publications, including papers and chapters. He is frequently invited to speak internationally, notably as a guest speaker at allergy meetings in Japan and Australia. Additionally, he has contributed to international guideline documents and serves on the Paediatric Group of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
Furthermore, together with Professor Gideon Lack, he co-leads the significant EAT Study, aimed at preventing food allergy development in infants. He is widely recognised on an international scale as a leading figure in paediatric allergy research, with a particular emphasis on allergy prevention.
