Professional statement
Mr Nev Davies is a consultant in trauma and orthopaedic (T&O) surgery based in Reading. He specialises in paediatrics, adult knee repair and arthritis alongside ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair and sports injuries. He privately practices as part of the Reading Foot & Ankle Unit team at Circle Reading Hospital and Spire Dunedin Hospital and as a sole practitioner at Rutherford Cancer Centre Thames Valley. He is also a NHS consultant at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Mr Davies prides himself in his dual practice, in which he treats all musculoskeletal conditions that manifest in children as well as adult knee conditions. He is one of the few surgeons in the UK with expertise in dealing with knee problems in patients of all ages including newborn babies and elderly people. This is reflected in the many referrals he receives from all over the country, regarding a second opinion for difficult cases.
Mr Davies graduated from the medical school at St Mary's Hospital, London, in 2000. After this, he worked at various esteemed medical establishments such as Kingston Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. He also spent six years on the Oxford Specialist Registrar Rotation in T&O before beginning his consultant role at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Mr Davies is active in education and research. He is the orthopaedic tutor at the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he trains junior doctors in the department, and a guest lecturer for the AO Paediatric Trauma course and the UK Miller Revision course. He also spoke at the first Children’s Knee Conference in Sheffield in 2018 and the Warwick Sports Knee Conference in 2019.
His passion for the prevention of children's sports injuries has resulted in him leading a group of UK knee surgeons investigating the topic. Mr Davies, who has as an international children's fellowship at The Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, Australia, and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (England), is the author of the successful FRCS (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons) exam book, 'FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics Viva'
Mr Davies is also dedicated to fundraising. He raised over £10,000 for the Royal Berks Charity, which supports the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, by running the famous Race to the Stones 100km race in 2019.
