Professional statement
Dr Nisar Shah is a passionate consultant cardiologist based at the Harborne Hospital, Birmingham. In addition to his work in general cardiology, he is an expert in heart failure and experienced with complex implantable cardiac devices, having been trained at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. He also runs specialist services for cardiomyopathies, heart rhythm issues, and recurrent blackouts – the service of which he leads at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Shah completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in general medicine before he moved to the UK, where he began training in cardiology. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2007, and also holds Fellowship of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He holds certifications from both British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS UK) and Heart Failure Association of ESC.
Apart from his medical practice, Dr Shah is an active educator, training undergraduate students and junior doctors and nurses in Aston Medical School, Birmingham, and is invested in delivering patient-focused clinical care and bettering training practices for medical students.
