Mr. Sacheen Kumar is a highly experienced Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon with expertise in managing Oesophago-Gastric Cancer, GIST tumors, and other benign Upper GI conditions. He holds an honorary academic role as Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Division of Surgery at Imperial College London and leads the Upper GI Surgical Oncology Research Group within the Division of Radiotherapy & Imaging at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).
After earning his medical degree from Imperial College London, Mr. Kumar pursued his General Surgical Training in the London Deanery and specialized in Upper GI Surgery at prestigious institutions, including Royal Free London, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and University College London Hospitals. He further honed his skills in minimally invasive techniques for Upper GI cancers during a fellowship at the National Cancer Centre (NCC) in Seoul.
His doctoral research, completed in 2014, focused on breath analysis for early cancer detection, earning him a PhD from Imperial College and subsequent roles such as NIHR Clinical Lecturer and CRUK-funded postdoctoral researcher. Recognized for his innovative contributions, he became a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2018.

Mr Kumar was my consultant for a hernia and provided fantastic care throughout my case. He listened to my symptoms and concerns, arranged for a series of scans and patiently answered all my questions. He talked me through the detailed results of the scans and my options for surgery (open vs keyhole). He referred me to his colleague David Monk so that I could understand the keyhole option. Mr Kumar was also available to answer non-urgent queries between consultations via Cleveland's MyChart facility which was highly appreciated. In the end I decided to go with the keyhole surgery performed by Mr Monk, but I was very pleased with all the care I recieved from Mr Kumar. He treated me with dignity, warmth and respect throughout the process, and put me at ease listening to my concerns and providing clear explanations. My heartfelt thanks to you Sach for the excellent care you've provided to me.

I had a day case laparoscopic surgery by Mr Sacheen Kumar; he was very understanding of my concerns and needs around scheduling the admission given that I am breastfeeding, and I have had an excellent surgical result.

What an amazing doctor, I would put my trust totally in him. He is an amazing surgeon and together with Prof Jamie Murphy they have given my my life back. I cannot thank them enough. I cannot highly recommend this doctor and the Cleveland clinic.

I am an inpatient at Cleveland clinic London.
I wanted to pass on my sincere gratitude to Professor Kumar who has been on call this weekend. Both yesterday and today, he has seen me promptly and with a careful balancing of optimising my symptom relief and doing the right thing objectively.
Absolutely blown away by his compassionate care and efficient + brilliant surgical skillset.
Amazing doctor, I can't thank him enough for coming up with a great short term plan promptly to stop my JEJ advancing out further but also taking the time to hear my concerns and frustrations and then putting things into action immediately to make me feel more comfortable.
He was met with an anxious, upset patient who didn't feel heard and he completely turned this all around with his patience and extraordinary problem solving.
