Mr Stephen Charles is a leading consultant ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon based in Greater Manchester. He currently consults at the BMI Alexandra Hospital and the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Mr Charles qualified in medicine at Oxford University in 1983, after which he completed specialist training in Newcastle, Cambridge and Manchester. During his specialist training, Mr Charles completed extensive training in vitreoretinal surgery. He specialises in all aspects of vitreous and retinal diseases, including retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease, macular hole and macular detachment.
Mr Charles is also committed to medical training and education and helps organise an internationally recognised vitreoretinal fellowship programme at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. He frequently gives lectures on vitreoretinal surgery.
