Mr Alistair McCleary is a distinguished consultant vascular and general surgeon based in York and Harrogate. With an extensive background in vascular surgery, he specialises in treating a wide range of conditions, including varicose veins, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), deep vein thrombosis, vascular access surgery, aortic aneurysms, and inguinal hernia.

Mr McCleary qualified in medicine from the University of Oxford in 1989, followed by an MA from the University of Cambridge in 1990. After pursuing further training in Cambridge, Oxford and Leeds, he additionally completed a highly sought-after vascular fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia in 1999. Mr McCleary is also an appointed fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. He has been based in York as a consultant vascular surgeon for over 20 years and there helped to establish a dedicated vascular unit, which is now one of the busiest services of its kind in the UK. Mr McCleary sees private patients at Nuffield Health York Hospital and The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate.

Throughout his esteemed career, Mr McCleary has held a number of esteemed positions, currently serving as deputy director of both the Hull, North Yorkshire, and North Lincolnshire Vascular Centre and the Hull and North Yorkshire Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme. He additionally chairs the Venous Thromboembolic Disease Committee and acts as treasurer of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Mr McCleary regularly teaches trainee surgeons and fellow medical professionals. He has published numerous academic papers which appear in esteemed peer reviewed journals. A pioneer in adopting minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of varicose veins under local anaesthesia, Mr McCleary is regarded as a leading specialist in his field. He is a member of a number of professional bodies, including the European Vascular Society.
