Mr Andrew Smith is an expert consultant general surgeon in Leeds who specialises in treating pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis, gallbladder diseases and performing laparoscopic surgery for abdominal wall hernias, gallstones and hiatus hernias (reflux disease).
Mr Smith qualified from St Mary's in 1991 and joined as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1995. His postgraduate training took place in Leicester and Nottingham and then he went on to complete his laparoscopic and advanced HPB training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the United States.
He has a vast amount of experience in his areas of expertise, performing over 80 major pancreas resections every year. He is also the Surgical Lead and Vice-Chairman for pancreatic disease within the Yorkshire Cancer Network and runs a research programme in benign and malignant pancreatic disease and medical education.
Mr Smith currently practices as an NHS consultant and privately in Leeds at the Spire Hospital and the Nuffield Health Hospital. As well as this, he also finds time to offer courses to GPs, which look at how to effectively manage gallstones, what to do with abnormal LFTs and how to treat acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
