Mr Azhar Shaida is a highly reputable consultant ENT surgeon with over 30 years of experience in the field. He is highly specialised in the treatment of a wide range of ENT complaints, with a special interest in ear surgery and auditory implants. His areas of special interest include general ear surgery, cochlear implants, and paediatric ENT surgery.
Mr Shaida, who is also an expert when it comes to ear infections, ear wax removal, and tonsillitis, is actively involved in teaching and regularly lectures on courses at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, the UCL Ear Institute, and at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is also currently an assistant editor for the Journal of Laryngology and Otology.
Mr Shaida was, impressively, awarded a scholarship to Pembroke College, Cambridge University, to study medicine in 1984, and would then later transfer to Oxford University in 1987 where he successfully completed his clinical training, qualifying in 1990. Mr Shaida then trained in Oxford, London, and Cambridge, and notably obtained an FRCS in general surgery. This would propel him to specialise in ENT surgery and he then decided to undertake training on the East Anglia rotation, obtaining the FRCS (Otolaryngology) and the FRCS-ORL.
He was awarded an MD degree for his thesis on matrix metalloproteinases in rhinitis from the University of London in 2004. Mr Shaida’s research interests include the restoration of hearing, advances in cochlear implant surgery, and other implantable hearing devices. He has published several papers on these topics in various medical journals.
