What is DIEP flap breast reconstruction surgery?
Description:
DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) flap reconstruction is a type of oncoplastic breast reconstruction surgery, often offered to women who have undergone surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment (e.g. single or double mastectomy). It is one of the most sophisticated forms of breast reconstruction surgery as the newly formed breast(s) goes on to feel and behave like a normal breast. If the patient were to gain or lose weight after surgery, the reconstructed breast would fluctuate too in size. DIEP breast reconstruction uses fat and skin tissue from the abdomen to recreate the breasts, making use of microsurgical techniques. DIEP breast surgery can also be carried out alongside treating lymphoedema, which can be a side effect caused by breast cancer surgery. Mr Damir Kosutic, a top plastic surgeon, explains how DIEP surgery is done. Make an appointment with Mr Kosutic here: https://www.topdoctors.co.uk/doctor/damir-kosutic
