Mrs Isabella Karat is a highly-regarded breast and general surgeon based in Surrey. Mrs Karat is extensively trained in a range of advanced surgical techniques, including immediate breast reconstruction including the use of a dermal matrix (Surgimend®, Strattice®, TIGR Mesh®), fat transfer/lipofilling to restore post-surgical volume loss, cosmetic breast surgery, breast asymmetry, augmentation, reduction, and complex revision surgery. She also has an interest in family history assessment and risk-reducing surgery. Her general surgical practice covers mole, lipoma and skin tag removal, and treatment of skin cancers. Mrs Karat enjoys consistently excellent reviews from patients for her caring manner and ability to put patients at ease. In recognition of this, in 2018 and 2019 she received a Certificate of Excellence from IWantGreatCare, a national patient reviews service.
In addition to her clinical practice, Mrs Karat’s research into immediate breast reconstruction, and sentinel node biopsy (ALMANAC Trial) at Guildford has been published and presented internationally. She is the Course Director for an Oncoplastic Skills course at the Royal College of Surgeons, and teaches as faculty on all its breast courses. She lectures on the skills of therapeutic mammoplasty on the Oxford Oncoplastic Breast Course, and is an honorary lecturer at the University of East Anglia, tutoring on the national Masters degree in Oncoplastic Surgery.
