Ms Kate Bolton is a distinguished consultant ophthalmologist with over twenty years’ experience in the field. She sees adult and paediatric patients and is renowned for her expertise in the surgical treatment of strabismus, and in cataract surgery, including simple, complex, and micro-incisional procedures.
Ms Bolton qualified in medicine from the University of Southampton in 1999. After gaining experience in emergency medicine, she underwent rigorous training in ophthalmology at various esteemed institutions in Portsmouth, Reading, Oxford, and Windsor. On returning to Portsmouth, she further specialised in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She was appointed as a consultant ophthalmologist at Portsmouth University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2018, where she continues to offer a comprehensive ophthalmological service. She regularly performs complex micro-incisional cataract surgery, and adult and paediatric strabismus surgery, as well as providing general ophthalmic care. Ms Bolton has also been awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Since 2021, she has held the position of clinical director of ophthalmology at her NHS base and additionally leads the paediatric uveitis multidisciplinary service. She sees private patients through the highly esteemed LaserVision practice, a renowned leader in ophthalmic care.
Ms Bolton’s contributions to the field extend beyond her clinical practice and she is actively involved in research and education. She serves as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and also as a medical appraiser for ophthalmology and paediatric consultants. Furthermore, she plays a pivotal role in training and education, working closely with trainees, mentoring, and providing educational supervision in the Wessex region. Ms Bolton also acts as an investigator in multinational trials focused on neonatal and paediatric eye conditions.
