Professional statement

Mr Martin Kurzer is one of the top hernia specialists who was one of the first surgeons in the UK to advocate the use of mesh for all abdominal hernias. After earning his medical degree at the University College Hospital in London, and receiving further training as a surgeon, he then became a fellow in the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He opened a private practice as a surgeon after two years in the USA, and later joined the British Hernia Centre. He takes special interest in local anaesthetic day-case surgery, as well as the repair of complex recurrent groin hernias and currently has one of the largest open local anaesthetic hernia repairs in Europe. He regularly speaks in conferences both the UK and abroad, and has published many notable articles and co-authored books on hernia surgery. A member of the American and European Hernia Societies, and the British Association of Day Surgery, his passion for his work lead him to establish the British Hernia Society as one of the co-founders and made him a supporter of the charity Operation Hernia.
