Mr Mokawem is obviously greatly experienced and has the determination to get to the bottom of a problem – especially in my case, where I did not get satisfactory results in private hospitals in the North of England.

Mr Mokawem treated me with the upmost care, respect and sensitivity from the moment I turned up at the clinic in a desperate state. I had 100% trust in his judgment from the first visit. Mr Mokawem has been available at all times throughout my surgical journey, answering numerous questions, allaying fears and ensuring all procedures went efficiently and successfully. In my opinion, Mr Mokawem is an amazing consultant and someone that is a master of his field. He spoke with sheer confidence about the procedure to me before my surgery and reassured me that I would be in good hands. And indeed I was. If I were to have to do the procedure again, I would be grateful to have Mr Mokawem as my surgeon. Post-surgery he asked me about my condition and checked up on me which shows how he puts his patients first. I would certainly recommend this consultant .

Mr Mokawem recently carried out a two-stage instrumented correction and spinal fusion to treat our 14-year-old daughter’s severe scoliosis. When my daughter and I first met him in clinic, we appreciated at once his kindly manner, professionalism and self-possession. The way that he listens with quiet attention and his thoughtful, measured responses that are never hurried. He explained things with just the right level of detail – enough that we could make informed decisions and know what to expect, but not so much as to overwhelm us. Our daughter particularly appreciated his way of addressing her directly, always respectfully – reminding her more than once that it was her decision as to whether to operate. We already had the measure of him, but it was reassuring to see, during the two-week hospital stay, that he is so revered by his colleagues who enthused about his exceptional skills as a surgeon but also of his thorough decency and integrity as a human being. They told us he would do right by her, and indeed he has, keeping her safe and preserving as much flexibility in her spine as possible. Spinal surgeons carry an immense burden of responsibility – proportional to our fear as parents - but Mr Mokawem transcends it with his unwavering meticulous competence, sangfroid and equanimity. We are endlessly grateful.

I started seeing Mr Mokawem around January 2021 and I have now finished all the treatment I am ever going to need from him (hopefully). From the very first consultation I felt very comfortable in his presence, his knowledge and compassion were extraordinary. He genuinely cared and was available virtually on demand. If I had any concerns and/or questions (no matter how trivial - and I was a demanding patient), I got an (almost) instant response (even sometimes, late into the evening). All this attention and professionalism meant I was relaxed at all times under his care. He is the epitome of someone at the top of his game, both in medical terms and 'humanity' terms. As a fellow professional (not medicine), as a minimum, we always have to perform to the best of our abilities and act accordingly, 24/7/365. Mr Mokawem not only did that easily, he exceeded this substantially! A true gentleman, a family man and a marvellous medical practitioner. You will be in excellent (probably the best) hands with Mr Mokawem and his team - I promise.

Dr Mokawem really did a great job with my surgeries and ensuring I was fully prepared in the lead up to it. My surgeries were very complex and I am satisfied with the outcome. My only point for consideration is that I wished I got to spend more time with him pre and post surgery at the times I was seen by one of his consultants. Messages can get misunderstood when passed to him through a 3rd party and consultants don’t necessarily have the 1st hand experience of the journey I’ve been on. I have seen many other surgeons but I trusted Dr Mokawem from our first consultation and I stand by my decision to trust him with my surgery, my spine, and my life!

I am 72 years old and regrettably have considerable experience of Consultants at various hospitals in recent years, which have ranged from being near disastrous to absolute exceptional brilliance. Mr Mokawem definitely comes under the later category because before I met him him for the first time in 2020 I had not been able to walk, at all for 3 years and was confined to a wheelchair. I had been refused surgery by my local hospital and I had approached my GP in desperation for help and he referred me to Mr Mokawem. Although our first “ meeting “ was a virtual one carried out over Zoom within a matter of minutes I was aware that I was in the hands of an exceptional Consultant his kind, caring and extremely knowledgeable approach made me feel instantly at ease. He showed me using my latest MRI scan exactly what was causing my disability and then explained concisely, what my options where and so initially I opted for a further set of spinal injections. Unfortunately although these provided temporary relief by April 2021 my “ mobility “ had significantly deteriorated and the pain had reached a level beyond my ability to tolerate so in a telephone conversation I asked him for surgery which he immediately agreed to arrange. Six months later I was admitted to hospital for the first of 2 operations, the 2nd to take place 7 days later which if successful could restore an unknown level of mobility. On the day I was admitted, a Sunday, Mr Mokawem came to see me to explain exactly what the 2 operations involved and what how I would feel afterwards, as I hadn’t had any form of surgery for 65 years which was both very considerate and reassuring.After the first operation, which involved removing a displaced disc and then fitting a spacer fitting a rod to correct the other spinal deformities. He then built at the base of my spine a titanium cage and inserted screws which would be tightened during the 2nd operation to hold all his work in place. The day after my 2nd operation I started physio working and then on the next day I took my first pain free steps in over three and a half years and I am now back home and able to walk freely without any pain. So to summarise, Mr Mokawem is a charming gentleman who cares above and beyond for his patients and he is also a brilliant surgeon and I would unhesitatingly recommend him to any patient. I will certainly never forget his kindness and his surgical brilliance which has completely restored my ability to lead a normal life. In short he has given me the opportunity to have a whole new life to enjoy with my wife.Miraculous

Mr Mokawem was caring, understanding, professional and extremely knowledgable, diagnosing my back issue very quickly. I ended up needing a surgical procedure which he explained clearly and thoroughly and reassured me. The procedure was a huge success and I feel better than I have in years. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Mokawem he was an excellent consultant/ surgeon.

I had spent 3-4 months in severe debilitating pain in both my back and right leg. This has resulted in 2 weeks in an NHS hospital and various visits to A&E and medical clinics. The NHS had suggested 9-12 months of drugs and physio to resolve this problem. As my pain became more severe I consulted with Michael who infirmed me that I should look to proceed with surgery. Michael was fantastic from our first interaction, speaking in a way that was easy for me to understand, reassuring me of my benefits of surgery, but equally giving absolute clarity as to the risks. 2 weeks after our first consultation I proceeded with surgery with Michael, I am writing this report 5 days after. All my pain has gone with the exception of some soreness from surgery which is to be expected. In summary, I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Michael to any patient suffering with similar issues.

Mr Mokawem is very kind, patient and trustworthy. He always explained my Daughters procedures very clearly and in a way that we could both fully understand. He always had time to answer any questions and never seemed in a hurry or ever rushed his answers. My Daughter was in hospital for just over two weeks and Mr Mokawem saw my daughter regularly during her Hospital stay to see how her recovery was going. He is an excellent surgeon and did an amazing job with correcting my Daughters scoliosis, we are beyond happy with the result. We couldn't recommend him highly enough.

Our son has complex needs and during the last 18 years, we have seen many medical professionals. The level of care provided by Mr Mokawem is the best we have experienced. As a surgeon, he is obviously very skilful as the correction of our son's spinal curvature is far better than we had hoped for. As a doctor, before and after the surgery, Mr Mokawem always showed empathy, and was willing to patiently answer our many questions.

Mr Mokawem is a very engaging and caring Consultant. He was the first doctor to give me hope for a brighter future where all other doctors had failed. He is very attentive and listened to my problems and symptoms and ordered an number of scans. Once the scan results came back I revisited Mr Mokawem and he went through each scan and told me in layman's terms the results and how he could help me if I had tried all other avenues in reducing my back pain. He came across as a person who genuinely wanted to help me and others like me find a solution to my long term back pain. Once surgery was agreed Mr Mokawem kept me well informed and told me to call him at any time if there was something I wished to discuss with him. Before surgery he discussed in detail each procedure and what to expect post surgery clearly and concisely. Post surgery he came to see me every day and was genuinely happy for me that the operations had been successful in removing sciatic pain completely and reducing my back pain immensely. In my opinion I do not believe Mr Mokawem can improve to give even greater care, the care I received from him was exceptional.

My daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis at our local hospital. We had private medical insurance and therefore we looked to find a consultant that could help our daughter. I read many consultants resume, but Mr Mokawem's was very informative and listed his medical achievements, this gave me the confidence to arrange an appointment. Based on what I had read we arranged the initial consultation. Mr Mokawem had seen the X-ray from our local hospital and then did an examination of our daughter and confirmed she has what was known as idiopathic scoliosis, and what this meant. Explained that due to the severe curve, a brace wouldn't correct it, it could get worse, and the only way to correct it was to have surgery. If we didn't have the surgery then the curve would more than likely get worse. As a family we was told the next step, which was getting an MRI to check that it was only the idiopathic scoliosis and then go from there. At every visit and x-ray going forward Mr Mokawem would update us with the progression of the curve and after trying a brace to help slow or maintain the curve. We came to the decision that my daughter would like to have the surgery. Mr Mokawem in depth told us of all the risks that are involved with surgery and the recovery period. Mr Mokawem has a very calming manner and I never felt rushed or that my time was up. Always answered any questions and I generally felt that we have made the right decision in appointing Mr Mokawem as our consultant. All communication via email or phone with his private practice manager was excellent too.

This is a review for Orthapedic Consultant Surgeon Mr Mokawem under Private Care at RNOH Stanmore. I had been suffering for many years with pain in my back, legs and feet caused by a worn lower disc leading to bone on bone and a trapped nerve. There was a very good chance that an operation would greatly help, and I had previously tried for a long time to get one done via the NHS, but there were some complications which acted as a barrier to this happening. Despite not being well off, I decided I wanted to consider self funding because I believe that health is more important than money. After doing some research and reading reviews for Mr Mokawem and his long list of specialist qualifications, I decided to contact Mr Mokawem and I am very glad that I did. His wife Jeanette is the Private Care Practice Manager, and therfore the first point of contact for Mr Mokawem in the Private Care area. I would just like to say that she was amazing, not only putting up with my countless email questions but answering all of them very efficiently, sometimes out of hours and even at weekends. I did of course get direct responses from Mr Mokawem when needed, and he gave very detailed honest and precise information which I greatly appreciated. They both did everything possible to help, and Mr & Mrs Mokawem make a great team! When I met Mr Mokawem in person for my initial consultation, he was increadibly approachable, professional and made some very detailed notes. He explained everything in great detail and gave me plenty of opportunity to ask questions. He was very patient. My gut feeling was that I should trust him. Following this, over a period of time we discussed many options before it could be decided if an operation was the best course of action. Once it was established that an operation could have a good outcome and that he was willing to offer it , I had no hesitation. I met with him again later so that he could plan the operation with me, and he was very honest about all of the possible risks, and allowed me plenty of thinking time, making it clear that I could change my mind at any time. After a health assessment at the hospital, two weeks of isolation (due to COVID-19) a COVID-19 test, and an MRSA swab test, the operation was carried out at RNOH Stanmore on 1st August 2020. COVID-19 procedures were followed throughout my stay at the hospital. Mr Mokawem came to see me several times before the operation and also after the operation to make sure everything was OK. I felt like I was being looked after very well. The operation itself went very smoothly and there were no problems despite it being a very long and complicated surgery requiring a second surgeon, two entry points and a titanium cage. For those of you that understand the lingo: (V3340) Primary anterior discectomy, decompression and anterior fusion + instrumentation - lumbar region (1 level) (V3362) Primary posterior fusion with instrumentation +/- decompression +/- discectomy (lumbar region). I woke up in the recovery room feeling pretty great, and I even ate the sausage and bacon breakfast that the staff brought me, not realising that I only felt great because of the drugs LOL. Once they wore off I felt sore for a couple of days, but it was actually still not that bad. I had micro doses of Morphine on a push button which definately helped. After two days I was able to walk a bit, by the third day I was able to walk well and climb stairs. By the fourth day I was able to go home to recover! Mr Mokawem kept in touch while I was at home and made it clear that I could contact him at any time. I remain under his care and follow up appointments with scans will later track my progress. I am glad that my back is fixed, as it may have become worse with time, requiring an operation later on in life. While I was in hospital, it was pretty clear talking to all the staff there that Mr Mokawem was very well liked by all. They said that he always had time for them and treated everybody well which I am not at all surprised to hear. If you are considering a private care procedure, I can't reccomend Mr Mokawem enough. I don't think you'll find a better surgeon or a more caring person Also, if you make enquiries you'll get fast responses. Thanks for reading, and whatever your problem I wish you a speedy solution.

We highly recommend Mr Mokawem after the treatment and care he has given our daughter for her scoliosis. We sought treatment privately and had an initial Skype consultation with Mr Mokawem, one of the two consultant surgeons who would be operating on our daughter. His manner then and in all subsequent interactions was very reassuring and he has always made us feel able to approach him over any concerns, as well as making us feel confident in his skills and knowledge. Jeanette, his wife and Practice Manager, has also always been on hand and quick to respond to any queries we have had, both before and after the surgery. From initial consultation to surgery was less than 2 months and we were extremely grateful to be scheduled in so rapidly during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. After a successful operation at RNOH Stanmore Mr Mokawem visited the ward nearly every day, always with a calm and reassuring manner, and has responded helpfully and promptly to any queries we have had once home again, giving us a personal phone call when needed to discuss our daughter's recovery and always speaking to her directly too. He is an excellent surgeon with an approach that is personal and caring as well as professional.

Mr Mokawem made me feel incredibly reassured and at ease, I completely trusted him straight away. Given that I first spoke to him over the phone whilst in Australia, him having seen my MRI scan and read through my notes, he gave me an hour of his time at 8pm in the evening and did not rush at all, I think this shows how thorough, caring and generous he is. I was amazed at the notes he produced after this initial telephone consultation (in comparison to my doctor in Australia with whom I had very brief face to face consultations with and much less detailed notes). He had listened to every word and didn’t miss a thing! Coming in for surgery I felt at ease and completely trusted him. His advice really helped me decide to quickly fly home to have the surgery. I was particularly grateful that he brought my case to meetings and managed to fast track my procedure during unprecedented circumstances. His letter following my procedure and discharge from hospital were just as detailed and there was nothing I felt unsure about. Practice manager Jeanette was also a wonderful support during my time as Mr Mokawem’s patient, always a friendly and supportive voice at the end of the phone. I am really so grateful to them both and couldn't recommend Mr Mokawem more highly!

Before and after treatment he was very concerned with examining and discussing with me in detail the various elements of my problem, such that I felt particularly well attended to. I am unable to express in words the amazing care my daughter received under Mr Mokawem before, during and after her spinal fusion surgery. Mr Mokawems dedication and attention to my daughter during her recovery was heartwarming and reassuring to know we had a consultant who was so committed to his job and his patient. In our 8 day stay at RNOH Stanmore we saw Mr Mokawem on the ward everyday, including nearly 10pm at night one evening. The surgery itself and my daughters recovery have been fantastic and the correction from the fusion looks amazing. As a family we just can't praise Mr Mokawem and his team highly enough.

Dr Mokawem was a fantastic doctor, I can’t speak highly enough of him. He was empathetic and kind, whilst also being very clear about the problem and my options.
