Mr Noman Zafar is a consultant surgeon in London who provides specialist services in gastrointestinal tract, and general and emergency surgery at Northwick Park Hospital. He has a well practised interest in benign gastrointestinal tract disorders and abdominal wall hernia repairs, and has achieved impeccable patient outcomes with minimal invasive approach (Laparoscopic/LASER/Video assisted).
He graduated from Dow Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan in 2000. Mr Zafar started his NHS career in 2003 and have achieved a wide breath of knowledge and the required clinical competencies and technical skills, through working in various surgical specialties. He completed his postgraduate training in the UK and achieved a membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2006. During his post graduate training at Northwick Park Hospital he worked with inflammatory bowel disease and the pelvic floor team at St. Mark’s Hospital for five years.
He has published peer reviewed papers in general surgery and coloproctology as well as presenting on these subjects in various national and international meetings. In 2015, he was awarded Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of England in General Surgery with specialist interest in Coloproctology: which is one of the highest qualification in surgery, validating his skills and knowledge in general surgery and coloproctology.
Mr Zafar performed at consultant level within the NHS as a locum since 2017 at London North West University Healthcare Trust. He was awarded Certification of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2021 and was appointed at substantive post in 2023. He has taken a prominent role in establishing Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at Northwick Park Hospital. Mr Zafar has been committed to deliver high standards of emergency and general surgery services to the community and is well recognised for his expert laparoscopic skills. Mr Zafar is passionate about teaching medical students and junior surgeons and has been nominated as a surgical co-Lead and clinical tutor by Imperial College Medical School.
He specialises in general surgical procedures (including groin pain and hernias, abdominal wall hernias), benign gastrointestinal surgery, particularly hepatobiliary disease (gall bladder and biliary tree pathology) and coloproctology (anal fistula, anal fissure, haemorrhoids, pilonidal and diverticular disease). Mr Zafar has been delivering emergency care for acute general surgical emergencies including appendicitis, hernias, bowel obstruction and perforation. His practices are based on principles of enhance recovery programme and minimal access surgery where possible giving patients the benefit of earlier return to their normal activities and minimal scar.
