Dr Paul Bhamra-Ariza is a distinguished consultant cardiologist with a special interest in interventional cardiology and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He is a consultant cardiologist at Frimley Health NHS Trust and part of the Royal Brompton TAVI team. He currently practises privately in the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire areas. On a day to day basis he sees patients with a wide range of common heart problems including: chest pain, high blood pressure, heart failure, valvular heart disease, palpitations and collapse cardiovascular risk assessment, and preoperative cardiac assessment.
Dr Bhamra-Ariza qualified in medicine from Guy's and St Thomas' School of Medicine in 2001, before undertaking specialist training in South West London’s cardiology training scheme. Driven by his interest in the physiology and pathophysiology of epicardial and microvascular coronary disease he completed a research fellowship at the MRC Clinical Science Centre at Hammersmith Hospital and received an MD in recognition of his work on myocardial blood flow measurement using cardiac MRI and positron emission tomography. In 2013 he spent a year in Sydney working at St Vincents Hospital and gained further experience in complex interventional and structural cardiology.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Bhamra-Ariza has contributed to research, having published numerous peer-reviewed medical articles and original papers in the field of structural cardiology and coronary artery disease imagining. He is an appointed fellow of the Royal College Physicians, and member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and the British Medical Association.
