Mr Saleh Okhovat is a consultant ENT surgeon based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and works privately at Ross Hall, specialising in nose, sinus, minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery, and facial plastic surgery.
Graduating with distinction from Imperial College London School of Medicine in 2010, Mr Okhovat completed his foundation and core surgical training at the Northwest Thames London Deanery, focusing on ENT surgery. He continued his registrar training in the West of Scotland and pursued a prestigious fellowship in advanced rhinology, sinus, and minimally invasive skull base surgery at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver General Hospital in Canada. This fellowship, accredited by the American Rhinological Society and the North American Skull Base Society, enhanced his skills in diagnosing and managing complex inflammatory, benign, and malignant conditions of the sinus, nose, and skull base.
Mr Okhovat furthered his training through observerships at Stanford University Centre for Cranial Base Surgery in Palo Alto, California, and completed the British Rhinological Society Advanced Rhinology Fellowship programme, solidifying his expertise in the field. He specialises in diagnosing and managing complex inflammatory, benign, and malignant sinus, nose, and skull base conditions.
As part of the Endoscopic Neuro-Skull Base Surgery team at the Institute of Neurological Sciences at QEUH, he collaborates closely with the Neurosurgical team to perform endoscopic endonasal approaches for skull base tumour resections. Additionally, he is part of the Paediatric Endoscopic Skull Base team, providing regional services for children with neuro-skull base tumours.
He was elected as Council member representing Scotland for the British Rhinological Society. Mr Okhovat leads a tertiary referral facial plastic surgery practice, addressing complex nasal and facial deformities. He has a strong academic interest in operative and non-operative rhinoplasty, having performed numerous reconstructive nasal surgeries, including open and closed septorhinoplasties, non-surgical rhinoplasties, and partial and total nasal reconstruction for nasal cancer patients.
He has undertaken observerships at high-volume facial plastic centres in New York with Dr Steve Pearlman, MD, FACS, and Dr Maurice Khosh, MD. He has published in facial plastic reconstructive surgery and is an invited speaker and faculty member at various national meetings and courses. He was elected as a council member for the British facial Plastic Surgery Society.
Mr Okhovat is deeply involved in surgical education and publishing in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He currently serves as the Fellowship Director for the Glasgow Advanced Sinus and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship programme and the Associate Post-Graduate Dean for Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Simulation Training for Scotland. He also leads the UK Surgical Accreditation Committee for Rhinology Simulation training. His contributions to surgical education have earned him numerous awards, including the University of British Columbia Fellow Teaching Award and the Imperial College London Teaching Excellence Awards.
