Mr Tahir Mahmud is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon based in Manchester and Cheshire. He is a super-specialised consultant orthopaedic knee surgeon who is an expert when it comes to sports injuries and knee osteoarthritis, and performs procedures such as knee replacements (total and partial), knee cartilage replacement, and regenerative therapies like platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
Mr Mahmud has a special interest in knee preservation techniques (osteotomy around the knee) as an affective treatment option when treating younger patients with osteoarthritis, as well as expertise with robotic knee replacement surgery and bespoke total knee replacement surgery.
Mr Mahmud qualified from University College London Medical School in 2000 before proceeding to train in orthopaedic surgery at St Mary's Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. There, he undertook a fellowship in sports knee surgery. He then went to Canada to complete a fellowship in complex knee and hip joint replacement surgery at the University of Western Ontario.
Mr Mahmud has published various articles in several orthopaedic journals and has written chapters for major orthopaedic textbooks. He is heavily involved in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and has presented his research at both national and international conferences.
