Dr Waleed Fawzi Hassan is an extremely well-regarded consultant old age psychiatrist who boasts a substantial amount of experience when it comes to psychiatric treatment of elderly patients. He specialises in old age psychiatry, depression, anxiety, dementia, mood disorders, as well as mild cognitive impairment. He currently practises at The International Clinic London.
Dr Fawzi Hassan, who treats patients over the age of 65 who are affected by health conditions that affect one's well-being, successfully completed an MB BCh in medicine (honours) at Cairo University in 1995. After this, he was notably awarded a prestigious UN scholarship that allowed him to undertake a diploma in geriatrics and gerontology at the International Institute of Ageing, which he completed in 1998. This was followed by an MSc degree in psychiatry and neurology, which he obtained from Cairo University in 2001.
Dr Fawzi Hassan then decided to relocate to London in 2003, where he immediately began his training in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital. During this successful period of specialist training, he gained membership of the esteemed Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2006. He would then achieve an MD three years later, in recognition of his excellent research which specifically focused on adherence to anti-depressants, which was jointly supervised at both Cairo University and the University of Liverpool.
He completed his specialist training in old age psychiatry in 2010, and then kickstarted his career as a consultant for East London NHS Foundation Trust, where he is currently the lead for mental health care of older people.
