Dr Luis Alameda areas of expertise:
Professional statement
Dr Luis Alameda is a dual-trained consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist offering private consultations in Central London and online. He provides specialised interventions combining approaches from both psychiatry and psychotherapy. His areas of expertise lie in treating schizophrenia and other psychoses, bipolar disorder, depression, as well as anxiety and a range of personality disorders.
Dr Alameda's approach is centred around trust, empathy and building a strong connection with his patients. Instead of relying on diagnostic labels, he believes it to be more helpful to focus on the actual symptoms and difficulties his patients are experiencing. He recognises there is no barrier between normal and pathology, but rather there is a continuum between the two.
Dr Alameda is a psychodynamic psychotherapist trained in Switzerland, which allows him to combine his skills as a medical doctor with those of a psychotherapist.
Dr Alameda completed his medical studies at the University of Seville, Spain; Lund University, Sweden; and the University of Florence, Italy. He subsequently completed his psychiatry and psychodynamic psychotherapy training in 2016 at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), Switzerland.
Aside from his consultancy positions, he is also a researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London and an associate member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
