FaceTite procedure: a comprehensive insight
Written in association with:A FaceTite procedure can certainly be one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate the skin on your face. Not only does the facial operation leave patients wrinkle-free, it also ensures that they maintain a natural look post-operation. On hand to provide a comprehensive insight into the procedure and just how effective it is, is award-winning plastic and cosmetic surgeon, Dr Tariq Ahmad.
What are the advantages of undergoing a FaceTite procedure?
One of the biggest advantages of the FaceTite procedure is that it can be undertaken as an out-patient under local anaesthesia without the more invasive or complex nature of face lifting surgery or overnight hospital stay. The tissues of the face, the neck, and now even the cheeks, eyelids and brow, can all be gently but effectively rejuvenated and tightened.
This can lead to a significant long-lasting improvement. Unlike most other energy-based skin tightening technologies, the FaceTite procedure uses two electrodes which allows for more of an accurate and focussed energy application. The use of local anaesthetic entails that the settings can be set to the optimum level in the attempt to try and achieve the best possible outcome.
Why do patients have this operation done? What are the main reasons?
Patients who choose to undergo this procedure are those who might be concerned about, or feel they are not yet ready, for a surgical intervention. You can expect to have some bruising and some swelling, but generally less downtime, which is another attractive feature and one of the main reasons why patients opt to have this operation done. The patient will always look natural and will never look operated, stretched, or post-surgical.
How effective are the results?
Generally, patients are likely to see a small snippet of the result (roughly 20 per cent) on the day of treatment, but the rest slowly comes over time as healing progresses and the tissues remodel. The final result could be expected from anywhere between three to six months, though some patients continue to improve for even longer. With appropriate patient selection, the outcome of the procedure can be excellent.
What is your pre and post-surgery advice to patients?
I often advise evidence-based skin care to prepare for the treatment. We, of course, discuss how to look after the face and neck after treatment including wearing a support garment, but you would typically be provided with a post-treatment aftercare patient-advice leaflet. I usually prescribe a short course of antibiotics, and patients should carefully protect the skin of the face and neck from strong sunlight for some weeks following the FaceTite procedure.
Who is the ideal candidate for a FaceTite procedure?
Nearly everyone can benefit from the FaceTite, but patients who have a moderate degree of maturity in the face; perhaps with some early jowls and a moderate degree of skin laxity; can benefit significantly. Patients with very thin or sun-damaged skin or a history of long-term smoking, for example, will still often reap the rewards, albeit to a lesser degree. The ideal candidate will be someone who is not wanting to choose surgery but does want a natural, gentle rejuvenation of their tissues.
