What is vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation surgery that aims to correct the distension and loosening of the vaginal canal tissues and to recover the tightening and contraction capacity of the vaginal muscles. Both childbirth and ageing can cause the vaginal canal muscles to loosen. Vaginoplasty is a gynaecological procedure that is sometimes referred to as vaginal rejuvenation surgery and is performed with either local or general anaesthesia.
Why is vaginoplasty done?
This surgery is performed for women who wish to correct vaginal laxity after childbirth or those who suffer a widening of the vagina due to age, menopause or multiple births. Vaginal tightening can improve the appearance of the vagina, which for some women is a cause of lower self-esteem, and it can resolve sexual dysfunction problems. Hence, vaginoplasty can be performed for both reconstructive and cosmetic purposes.
How is a vaginoplasty performed?
The surgical procedure of vaginoplasty consists in closing the muscles located around the vagina, which are distended or deformed, and which are responsible for giving strength to the vaginal walls, while improving the elasticity and control of the vulva.
The results of this operation are usually highly satisfactory since you get a narrower vagina and a stronger pelvic floor without leaving visible scars in the area. In addition, in many cases the satisfaction of sexual relations affected by this type of malformations is improved.
Preparation for vaginoplasty:
Before your vaginoplasty surgery, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions about fasting and stopping any medications.
Aftercare following a vaginoplasty procedure:
During the first 48 hours after surgery it is normal for the patient to notice some discomfort. It is necessary to rest during this period. You should avoid using tampons and sexual intercourse for up to eight weeks after surgery. You will need one to two weeks of time off following vaginoplasty surgery.
