Buttock implants: can you really have the ‘perfect bum’?
Escrito por:Buttock implants are specific silicone gel implants used for buttock augmentation. They are firmer than breast implants and their surface is smooth. They come in two different shapes, round and oval shape, and in about six different sizes for each shape.
Thanks to the likes of celebrities such as the Kardashian family making shapely butts popular, it seems like the derriere is having its moment in the spotlight. But is it really possible to achieve the perfect bottom if you go under the knife? We’ve asked renowned plastic surgeon Dr Gary Horn how he manages expectations versus the reality of butt implants when it comes to augmentation.
Who might benefit from buttock implants?
Any patient, male or female, who is complaining of a lack of fullness and projection of the top and middle thirds of their buttocks can have implants.
How do you manage a patient’s expectations of their desired results versus reality?
Patients always want a massive augmentation at once. Unfortunately, this is not possible as the implant is placed inside the gluteus maximus muscle and cannot be wider than the muscle. Consequently, the size of the implants depends exclusively on the size of your muscle. We also recommend that the result should be in harmony with the rest of the body.
What happens during the procedure?
During the procedure, a double 5cm long incision is made on the midline in between the butt cheeks. The gluteus maximus muscle is opened and the implant is placed inside just like a sandwich. Then, the muscle and skin are sutured. Sometimes a drain is left in for 24-hours. This operation can be combined with a fat transfer to the sides or to the lower third of the buttocks.
Can you really achieve the ‘perfect bum’?
Buttock implants can really give you a very nice shape and projection, however, everyone has their own image of a perfect bum. That’s why sometimes it should be combined with fat transfer, especially to increase the side of the buttocks.
Are buttock implants dangerous?
Buttock implants surgery is not more dangerous than any other plastic surgery procedure as long as the surgeon is highly experienced with the procedure.
How long do they last?
Any implant has a life expectancy of 15 years minimum.
