How does minimally invasive hip replacement surgery compare to traditional methods used?

There are different types of hip surgery available. A minimally invasive hip procedure generally means a smaller scar. The direct superior minimally invasive approach is even more advanced because it causes minimal damage to soft tissues (muscles and tendons) according to the most recent scientific evidence. This is because damage to muscles involved with mobility and hip stability is minimal.
 

What are the benefits of minimally invasive hip surgery?

Hip patients who have their hip surgery with this approach spend much less time in hospital (even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic), return back to function much earlier and generally get much better function compared to patients who had their surgery with a more conventional technique. The functional results according to the most recent evidence are much better compared to conventional approaches. On average the recovery time is four weeks compared to standard hip surgery at eight weeks.
 

Who can and who cannot have this treatment?

All patients are candidates for a direct superior total hip replacement. To date, I have performed more than 200 primary hip replacements using the direct superior approach with excellent results in terms of patient reported satisfaction.
 

How much does the procedure cost on average?

What is the success rate for hip replacement surgery?

Hip replacement surgery has a high success rate. The success rate of hip replacements 10 years after surgery is 90- 95% and at 20 years 80-85%.
