What are your professional qualifications and clinical experience?
I am a qualified clinical psychologist, CBT therapist, mindfulness teacher, life coach and functional medicine practitioner. I bring a wealth of experience – I have been working for over 22 years, weaving in different approaches and different therapeutic modalities into my practice. If you are interested in working with me, then you will be able to benefit from my clinical psychology background, with a very scientific and evidence-based approach.
You will be able to learn specific CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) techniques. You will also be able to learn mindfulness from a teacher with almost 18 years of experience. I have been teaching mindfulness courses and using mindfulness in one-to-one sessions since 2005.
What is the role of functional medicine in your practice?
In 2015, I completed a postgraduate course in functional medicine and ancestral nutrition at The Kresser Institute in the USA. Since then, I have been weaving in the principles of functional medicine into my clinical psychology practice, because a lot of of your diet and your lifestyle dictates how you feel, and not many people know about it.
Hence, in this respect, I am quite an unusual psychologist, because I really recommend looking at your diet and changing what you eat, sometimes considering supplements, and perhaps ordering blood tests. I also work with two nutritionists who have helped me, over the years, with my own health problems and with the optimisation of my own body functioning, so I have great trust in them.
I am not a medical doctor, so I am not a functional doctor. I only use functional medicine to help with mental health problems. If you have difficulties with sleep, with anxiety, with depression, with low mood, with a physical illness, with chronic pain, or with problems related to brain functioning such as ADHD, then I will be able to help using the principles of functional medicine. I will look at your nutrition and your lifestyle and evaluate how this is supporting or not supporting your current situation.
