Mole removal at Cosmopolitan Medical Clinic

We specialise in diagnosing and removing moles, fibromas, skin tags, seborrhoeic keratosis, sebaceous cysts, pigmented lesions, and more. Our services include high-quality mole checks, biopsies, and mole removal procedures using either laser or surgical methods. We don’t perform treatments on the same day as the consultation.

Moles are skin blemishes that vary in size, shape, and colour and can appear on the body or face. Although most moles are harmless, it’s important that any mole showing changes in shape, colour, or causing irritation is examined by a doctor experienced in mole diagnosis. If you have a bothersome mole, no matter where it is located, we offer excellent cosmetic outcomes, whether through surgical removal or laser treatment. If the mole appears suspicious, we provide clear guidance on further steps, either through private care or your GP.

Warning signs to watch for (A, B, C, D, E)

  • A is for Asymmetry: A melanoma's halves are typically not symmetrical.
  • B is for Border: Early melanoma often has irregular, crusty, or notched edges.
  • C is for Colour: Healthy moles have uniform colour, while variations (black, white, blue) are concerning.
  • D is for Diameter: Melanomas are typically larger than 6 millimetres, but can be smaller.
  • E is for Evolving: Changes in size, shape, colour, or symptoms like itching or bleeding are warning signs.

Mole removal in Maidstone, Kent

I am highly experienced in skin surgery and have successfully removed hundreds of moles and skin lesions using both laser and surgical techniques. The method used depends on the mole’s diagnosis, size, and location.

  • Flat, light-coloured moles can be harder to remove and may leave a small scar.
  • Small moles can often be shaved down to skin level, usually without scarring.
  • Laser surgery is ideal for benign, raised moles, offering a painless procedure with minimal scarring risk.
  • Larger or suspicious moles are removed surgically under local anaesthesia, with stitches to close the wound.
  • We offer a fast biopsy service for all pigmented skin lesions.

More about mole checks

Deciding on treatment

Mole removal is generally a safe, minor procedure, but it’s important to have it performed by a qualified, experienced professional. Before consenting to treatment, patients should be aware of potential side effects and complications. Common side effects include:

  • Temporary numbness from local anaesthesia (about 1 hour).
  • Discomfort, swelling, blistering, or bruising around the site for a few days.
  • Skin pigment changes (temporary lightening or darkening of the treated area).
  • Scarring, which can vary depending on the size and location of the mole. Minor scars can be addressed during follow-up appointments.
  • Some people may develop raised, red scars known as keloid scars. Following post-treatment care instructions carefully is crucial, and agreeing to this is part of the informed consent.

Mole removal: A one-time procedure

The entire process takes less than an hour. Aftercare instructions will include using antibacterial ointment and avoiding sun exposure. If your mole had hair, further laser hair removal may be needed, which we can provide. The wound typically heals within 7–10 days, leaving your mole a distant memory.
