Losing weight can be difficult and you might become despondent when you’ve tried every diet under the sun and you’re exercising regularly but nothing seems to be working. At the weight loss clinic in London, The London Obesity Group provide weight loss surgery for suitable patients that are committed to losing weight.

You can receive treatment at some of London’s top private hospitals with experienced bariatric surgeons such as Mr Sanjay Agrawal.

Why visit the weight loss clinic?

Being overweight or obese takes a toll on your body and puts you at greater risk of developing serious health conditions like high cholesterol and diabetes. You can reverse these health risks by losing weight. If you already have high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes, you can greatly improve your symptoms.

Your quality of life will improve after weight loss surgery. If you’ve been feeling depressed and hopeless in your struggle with weight loss, surgery can help you get in shape quicker and rebuild your confidence. You’ll also feel fitter and more energetic, allowing you to move more freely and complete day to day tasks with more life and vitality.

What happens when I first arrive at the weight loss clinic?

When you first arrive at the clinic, you’ll meet with an experienced surgeon who’s an expert in weight loss surgery.

For the initial consultation, your surgeon will assess your overall health and talk to you about your reasons for wanting weight loss surgery and what you have already tried to lose weight. The surgeon will talk to you about the treatment options that are available to you and help you come to a decision about the best type of surgery for you, be it a gastric band, gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. Let’s take a look at what’s involved in each of these procedures.

Gastric band surgery

An adjustable band is fitted around your stomach to reduce its size in order to reduce the amount of food you eat at every meal. The procedure is performed laparoscopically, under general anaesthetic and takes between 30 and 60 minutes. After the surgery, most patients lose about half of their unwanted weight. Prices start at £5,950.

Gastric bypass

This keyhole weight loss procedure makes the stomach smaller by bypassing part of the digestive system. This means that your body absorbs less of the food that you eat when the procedure is done. This operation is done under general anaesthetic and takes between one and three hours. You will have to stick to a diet plan following the surgery, but you can expect to lose 60-70% of your extra weight. Prices start at £8,995.

Gastric sleeve

In this procedure, the size of your stomach is reduced by removing two-thirds of the stomach with a stapling device. The remaining stomach is shaped into a small tube so that you can only eat small meals. The operation takes one to two hours and can be carried out with keyhole surgery, under general anaesthetic. Patients lose 50-60% of their extra body weight, but a careful diet must be followed after the surgery. Prices start at £7,995.

Going ahead with the surgery

Once you’ve decided on what surgery is best for you, the procedure will be performed at a private hospital in London by a qualified bariatric surgeon. The clinic offers full support before the surgery and personalised advice on diet and exercise after your operation so that you maintain the weight loss.
