Having teeth problems such as gaps, pain, and instability can be frustrating, especially when it affects things like what you can eat and the appearance of your smile. Luckily, you can transform your smile by having a full mouth rehabilitation, something that Dr Michael Sultan, a skilled endodontist performs regularly. So what does a full mouth rehabilitation involve?

What is a full mouth rehabilitation?

This is a series of dental procedures which when combined, allows a clinician to completely rebuild a patient’s mouth to the highest standard possible.

Why do some problems require treatment for the whole mouth?

In many cases, the failure of an individual tooth is linked to an underlying instability in a patients’ bite. As a result, the whole bite needs to be analysed and corrected to ensure that the forces across the whole bite are even, which gives stability and functional harmony.

What does the process look like?

An initial series of appointments, which include a clinical assessment with photographs, dental impression and X-rays are undertaken to analyse what underlying factors and disease processes are present. Once completed, the dentist stabilises the foundations of the teeth and ensures the gums are in a condition to support any final work. Finally, the dentist provides any final dental work to finish the process.

What kind of procedures are needed?

A rehabilitation may consist of multiple processes which may include:

Each case is individual and caters specifically for that patient.

What is the difference between a full mouth rehabilitation and a “smile makeover”?

A full mouth rehabilitation looks at the status of each tooth individually and plans to rebuild the mouth, providing a functional, long-lasting result, which is also aesthetic. A smile makeover simply corrects the aesthetics but does not take into account any grinding or other causative issues underlying in the mouth. The rehabilitation analyses everything and rebuilds each tooth to give the patient confidence that their bite and the foundations of each tooth is stable, the bite is corrected and they have the desired aesthetic results they wish for.
