After suffering for long, he saw my pain and managed to expedite my appointment due to a cancellation. The aftercare has been great as well as all the advice and it seems to be healing as best as it possible can. Would definitely recommend Dr Spiegelberg. NHS Patient - operation date 16th October 2024. I had a total hip replacement on NHS at One Hatfield Hospital on 16th October 2024 carried out by Consultant Mr Ben Spiegelberg who was very professional and explained the whole procedure from my first meeting until my discharge on 28th November 2024. I could not be any happier with the outcome and have only had a slight stiffness when getting out of bed in the morning, but this wears off in five minutes when I start moving around. In my case I only required a mild pain killer, paracetamol, occasionally through my rehabilitation. My wound has healed well and is very neat. During the whole process I received excellent treatment from all the staff and would have no problems recommending both the Consultant and hospital.

I had the best care possible. Mr Spiegelberg was at all times very professional and informative from our first meeting to my discharge appointment today. I felt reassured at all times and confident I was in good hands. I couldn't be more pleased with my new hip. I have experienced only slight discomfort but no pain to speak of. The wound has healed amazingly. I could not fault any part of my care or the procedure. I want to point out I was seen at One Hatfield Hospital, where I had my operation. I had a total hip replacement at Spire Bushey hospital on October 8th using robotic assisted surgery. I absolutely recommend this consultant - he is very professional, easily approachable - and he explains every stage of the process very clearly. My operated hip was weight bearing almost immediately - and my mobility returned quickly too. Also, I have a neat scar, which has healed quickly. Very impressed.

I had a full left Robotic hip replacement on the 8th October 2024 at Spire Bushey. It was six weeks yesterday and i have to say i feel like a new man! I would not have beleived that after just six weeks i am able to walk, do my exercises and drive the car without any pain! I would highly recommend Ben Spiegelberg.

Absolutely delighted with the results of my new hip. Mr Spiegelberg and his team have taken the utmost care and listened to what I hope to achieve for the future. In May, I had a bilateral hip replacement with Mr Spiegelberg. He explained to me it would be better for me to get both my hips done. I was very nervous but Mr Spiegelberg reassured me it would be fine . I am very pleased I had him do my operation. I am now able to stand upright without any pain . I had a full right knee replacement by Dr Speigelberg in August 2024 after many years of struggling with arthritis and limited mobility. Two months in and my quality of life has improved dramatically - debilitating pain gone, sleep improved and able to physically manage day to day activities. I went to see Mr Spiegelberg at the end of June as i had pain in my right knee. I had an X Ray prior to the Consultation and when I went into see him he knew exactly what my symptoms were! He advised on a partial knee replacement which he carried out on the 3rd September. He was very calm and reassuring. He came to see me before the operation, after it and again the next day. I have a very insignificant scar which has healed very well. I was out and about in simply no time at all. I would absolutely have no hesitation in recommending this first rate surgeon.

Following my initial meeting with Ben Spiegleberg as an NHS patient, he informed me how bad the arthritis in my hip was and that the sooner it was replaced the better. I took his advice and instructed him to carry out a hip replacement as soon as possible as a private patient. At the time my right leg was about 2cm shorter than my left due to the arthritic joint. This was carried out at the Spire hospital in Bushey about 8 weeks later. The operation was successful and he was able to restore most of the height difference between the two legs. I suffered very little pain following the operation and within a week was taking only paracetamol for pain relief. There was no infection following the operation and the dressing was removed about 2 weeks later. I had 4 sessions of physiotherapy, before being signed off by the hospital. I stopped needing any walking aids after about 6 weeks and returned to the gym at about the same time. It is now just over 12 weeks since the operation and today I walked 3 miles without any discomfort. I am 85 and the operation has given me back my quality of life. It is likely that if due course I shall need my other hip replaced and Ben will be the surgeon asked to do it. Brian Woodget

Six weeks ago I had a total hip replacement, courtesy of Mr Spiegelberg. At my first appointment he was so friendly and caring, explained exactly what I needed, and completely put my mind at rest. At every subsequent meeting he explained simply and carefully exactly what stage I was at, what had taken place or was about to. I could not have wished for better treatment. From my first initial consultation with Ben Spiegelberg, I was struck by his friendly and reassuring demeanour. He listened and fully understood as I explained my arthritic knee condition and the pain spasms. A few days later I had my first steroid injection, Along with the exercises my physio gave me, my knee pain spasms calmed right down & my walking is really near normal. I am writing this review on behalf of my mother. After 10 years of pain and getting to a stage where walking was very difficult, Mr Spiegelberg assessed my mother and said he would do a partial knee replacement. She was very anxious and hesitant about the surgery but Mr Spiegelberg settled her nerves and clearly explained the procedure and recovery. It has been a month since the surgery and Mr Spiegelberg said was impressed with her mobility and recovery. I was touched with the extra care and kind manner he dealt with my mother. I was referred to Mr. Spiegelberg by my GP for my right knee arthritis. He performed a partial knee surgery and I cannot thank him enough for relieving me from the terrible pain and discomfort I had before the surgery. I cannot recommend Mr Spiegelberg enough I came to Mr Spiegelberg about my arthritic left knee having seen 3 other orthopaedic surgeons over the years about my condition - they all recommended a full knee replacement. Mr Spiegelberg reviewed me and my records and recommended a partial knee replacement - which he carried out in February this year at One Hatfield Hospital - 3 months on I am back to normal life, walking without pain or limping. Mr Spiegelberg was caring listening and explained what was going to happen at all stages of my treatment.

I am writing on behalf of my husband who is currently recovering from emergency quadriceps muscle repair, having been examined by Mr Spiegelberg on Friday 12 April 2024. Mr Spiegelberg identified the problem immediately, without a scan, and, apologising for being unable to operate on him personally owing to a full diary next week, sent my husband to the nearest A & E department with a phone call to expedite his admittance. My husband was processed through A & E within three hours, admitted and had emergency surgery the following day. We are so grateful to Mr Spiegelberg for ensuring that no further damage was caused, as a result of a severe fall/sports injury, and my husband is now in good spirits although enduring the inevitable post-operative process. From the moment I met Mr Spiegelberg I had complete confidence in him and this proved to be completely justified. Every part of the process was efficient, well explained and effectively executed. Mr Spiegelberg is kind and reassuring and he gives you time to ask questions throughout the process. My recovery under the care of Mr Spiegelberg has been speedy. Listen to everything Mr Spiegelberg and his staff tell you to do and you will recover very well. In particular patients need to believe the staff when they tell you to take the stronger pain relief so that you get mobile as soon as possible. I am a nearly-70 year old woman who had a right total hip replacement on 16.1.24. I am writing to confirm the excellence of my care when I stayed for 2 nights in hospital over the time of my surgery. In particular, I have a serious psychiatric diagnosis which makes me very vulnerable. I am writing to say that the care I received throughout my stay met all my needs. I had described to Mr Spiegelberg what these were, and he arranged his team's care to meet these needs. Anxiety was one of my main symptoms, at the surface of my serious diagnosis, but Mr Spiegelberg's team reassured, helped, and allowed me to keep myself stable throughout. My Oxford half knee failed in late September 2023 and I saw Mr Spiegelberg a few weeks later. I had a full knee replacement in mid November 2023 and no 9 weeks post surgery have just had a post op check up with him. It's healing really well, not much swelling now and very little pain. Great Physio as well as his care. He took the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Very pleased.

In Nov.23 Ben and the team at the Lister Hospital replaced my right hip after nearly 3 years of deteriation. I live on dialysis and had major heart surgery in July,and the procedure was not without risks. Through the whole procedure i felt comfortable at all times in Ben,s handsand his team. My mobility is gradually improving but as was explained to me, the full recovery will take time. Ben Spiegelberg truly stands out as an exceptional surgeon. His diligence and thorough approach provided me with a sense of confidence throughout the entire process. As a 47-year-old male grappling with multiple meniscus tears in my right knee, daily life was significantly impacted—I couldn't engage in football, run, or walk up or down inclines without experiencing considerable pain. Dr. Spiegelberg is an excellent surgeon, and consummate professional. I came to him almost 3 years ago regarding both of my knees, which had deteriorated so badly from advanced osteoarthritis that simply walking was a challenge. Upon getting MRI's on both knees and seeing the extreme condition that I was in, he looked me in the eye and said, "We're going to fix you". I immediately felt relief with light at the end of the tunnel. And he did fix me with TKR in both knees. My quality of life has improved so significantly that I am back in the gym and doing almost every activity (except rugby) that I was engaged in prior to the problems with my knees. I am extremely happy with the entire journey that he led me through. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

At the beginning of the year I was suffering from what seemed to be major discomfort of my leg. Further discussion and investigation discovered it to be osteo arthritis. After talking through all the options, and trying the steroid injection, it was decided an operation was the answer. Prior to going for the operation I was seen by Mr Ben Spiegelbergwho immediately assessed that I needed a hip replacement and within 24 hours I was given a date for the operation. On admittance to the hospital I was seen again by Mr Spiegelberg who answered the questions I had and reassured me that everything would be ok which it was. Ben was excellent, after suffering knee pain after a motorbike accident Ben carefully went through my options, starting with a steroid injection, it was apparent though my injury was going to need more. We discussed all of the possibilities and we choose a partial knee replacement at The Lister Hospital. The care before the operation was fantastic and Ben and his surgical team were on hand to reassure me, Ben was also there at recovery and explained how the operation had gone perfectly. The aftercare and follow up consultations with Ben were just as through and today and I now been discharged from his care. After a very fraught 6 year journey, since a knee operation that went wrong, to be under the care of Mr. Spiegelberg was not only reassuring but a revelation! He listened, he cared and his expertise made sure this time I had every confidence in all the procedures that followed. Not a straight forward time, not a quick-fix, but a successful one. The replacement knee joint was removed, a temporary one put in, and at the right time a new knee joint put in place. Mr Ben Spiegelberg is an excellent surgeon. I had a robotic total knee replacement in May under his excellent expertise. I am now 8 weeks post operation and walking without assistive aids. I am extremely happy with how well the surgery went.Before my surgery I was very nervous about undergoing surgery but Mr Spiegelberg was very understanding and patiently listened to all my concerns and allayed all my fears about the surgery. I am now 8 weeks post op after having a full knee replacement. For years I had been suffering from severe pain in my right knee which was effecting my mobility making every day tasks extremely difficult. After my first consultation with Dr Spiegelberg he was confident that a full knee replacement would treat the issue and I was booked in for the op at Bushey Spire. From that day up until my op date his team kept me well informed at every stage and answered any questions I had regarding the procedure. I have been under the care of Mr Ben Spiegelberg and I had my right knee replacement done in December 2022 at the Bushey Spire Hospital. Mr Spiegelberg and his anaesthetist explained the advantages of having a spinal anesthesia, which I decided to have and recovered quickly from it. I am glad I went down this route. I have been under the care of Mr Spiegelberg at St Albans Hospital for the last 3 years. Following initial knee injections it was agreed that a full knee replacement was required. This followed a patellofemoral joint replacement in 2006. I have always found Mr Spiegelberg very pleasant and puts you at ease. Always explains what is required. I had full confidence in his skills. I am now two weeks post op having had a revision of a partial knee replacement. The bearing had been dislocated into my knee. As soon as Ben saw the issue he was confident it could be resolved by replacing the bearing with a new one. The operation was dependent on how the PKR metal work had survived the lack of a bearing for a umber of months. Fortunately when my knee was opened the metal work was good and Ben was able to remove the old bearing and replace with a new piece. Throughout the process I was kept informed of what was going to happen including that there may have been the potential of a TKR. I have the utmost confidence in Ben and his team, he also gave me a TKR in my other knee two years ago, which has been very successful. This revision has meant that my recovery has been very quick compared to a TKR. Ben spoke to post op in theater explaining how well everything had gone and I was seen two weeks later by him so he could be sure everything had progressed well. Ben is very personable and always ensures you get all the information you need.

My right knee was replaced in autumn 2021 and the Robot was used as it was a tricky one, (my femur was broken in many places 40 years ago which complicated matters), the right one made a huge difference as I had been in extreme pain for many years, so much so I hadn't really noticed how painful the left knee was! This was replaced December 20th 2022 and has gone very well. Both Knees were done at Bushey Spire Hospital but I was an NHS patient both times, everything went well and all the way through I was informed what would happen and when, with mutliple visits By Ben and his team

After my first consultation with Mr. Spiegelberg I felt confident that here was a man who knew what was wrong with me and how to fix it. He spoke clearly, no umming or arring, and when there was something technical to explain he made sure that I understood, especially the procedure and the risks involved. He assured me that once the hip operation was completed the pain I was experiencing in my knee would be gone and that I would soon be walking normally. On the day of the operation he came to see me and again was calm and confident and had time to share a few jokes with me. Well I had my operation on the 13thDecember 2022 and I am now walking normally with no pain what so ever. Mr Spiegelberg first saw me a year prior to my NHS hip replacement operation. He immediately inspired confidence in me with his direct and professional manner. He was most apologetic that I would have a wait of at least a year but would be placed on his list. Having had my hip replacement on 3rd October 2022 at St Albans NHS Hospital I am pleased to say that the whole experience was exceptional. The morning of my operation Mr Spiegelberg came to see me and explained the ramifications of the operation. I was most impressed that he took the time to come up to the ward to see me when he obviously had a very busy day ahead of him in the operating theatre. His manner was so reassuring as I was very nervous and apprehensive. I met with Mr Spiegelberg and his registrar on 18th November 2022 for the six week check up. Despite my seeing his Registrar initially, Mr Spiegelberg took the trouble to pop in to ask how I was progressing. I am pleased to say I am progressing well and now walking unaided with far less pain. I wholeheartedly recommend and thank Mr Spiegelberg for his kindness and expertise. I was referred to Mr Spiegelberg for a total hip replacement. I had a consultation at a local surgery was assessed and it was recommended I have surgery. Mr Spiegelberg explained the procedure and advised there would be a six month wait as a NHS patient. True to his word I received a telephone call from his secretary after 5 months and the surgery date was booked within the promised time. I was admitted to Bushey Spire and found the nursing staff kind, caring and good listeners. Mr Spiegelberg explained the process on the day and answered any questions I had. He is very kind and caring and puts you at ease. The surgery went very well, I experienced no pain and was up walking very quickly. From the initial consultation with Mr Spiegelberg he instilled confidence. Throughout my short hospital stay I was treated with respect, his pleasant attitude put me at ease and he was always available and interested to answer any questions. I was on the NHS waiting list for sometime but could wait no longer. I had a total knee replacement on 1st February by Ben Spiegelberg at Spire Hospital in Bushey. It was a good decision to have the surgery. I would highly recommend Ben Spiegelberg and his team. The operation went very well. He is thorough, professional, very approachable, friendly and exceedingly helpful. I had previously had breast cancer and my lymph nodes were removed on both arms which left me susceptible to lymphoedema if blood pressure was taken on my arm. This was factored in nothing was left to chance all went well. I could not have asked for better care. My mobility is much better and is improving daily. The exercises and physio have helped enormously with the range of movement I have. I found Mr. Spiegelberg very easy to talk to. He was polite and friendly and gave me plenty of opportunity to ask questions. He did not claim that my new hip would cure all my walking difficulties but urged me to continue with the exercises prescribed by my physio. I was referred to Mr Spiegelberg by my GP in September 2020. From the very beginning of my journey to have both my hips replaced I felt relaxed and totally confident with him as my consultant. He is a very personable, caring and compassionate individual and an exceptional surgeon. I have just been discharged by Mr. Spiegelberg after having my total knee replacement on 28th June 2021 at St. Albans Hospital on the NHS. Having had the operation cancelled twice due to COVID I was always kept informed on when I might expect a new date. On the day of the operation Mr. Spiegelberg visited me to check all was ok and also the day after the operation. On the day of discharge 4 days later from St. Albans hospital he also came and made sure I was happy with everything. He was so attentive and caring. 5 weeks later I met up with him again to get checked over and he listened to all my concerns and was able to answer any of my doubts. My operation took place at The Wellington Hospital. Prior to the operation Mr Spiegelberg discussed with me all the pros and cons of the hip replacement operation that I needed in very easy to understand language. I had been suffering for over 18 months with arthritis in the left hip which also affected my knee and back, after the operation was carried out the pain all disappeared almost straight away. After 6 weeks I am walking without any aids. Mr Spiegelberg and his team, including Dr Raj Shah, the anesthetist, were excellent and caring as were all the nursing staff at The Wellington Hospital. Mr Spiegelberg gets 5 stars. Very easy to talk to and provided simple to understand explanations of the trauma suffered - osteochondral defect. Had knee arthroscopy (removal of cartilage and levelling off some of the defects) and after 3 weeks, its improving daily, and can walk longer distances and might, be able to get back to light gym work in a week according to my physio, but I won’t push it! Along with other reviewers I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Spiegleberg. Following a very (covid) delayed NHS x-ray, and a frank chat with my doctor, I researched hip replacement consultants and decided Mr Spiegleberg had the experience, research background, competence and empathy reviews which would make me feel relaxed and comfortable with the procedure. Luckily I was able to get an initial appointment on 7 October 2020 and, with all my questions answered, had a complete hip replacement on 3 November. I was pleased with both the local anaesthesia and posterior incision decisions and as others have commented my recovery was very quick. I didn't need pain relief on release from Bushey Spire Hospital, was able to walk 5 miles and drive comfortably within 3 weeks. I also found the team - Kirrily and the anaesthetist Dr Raj Shah relaxed, supportive and helpful.

Mr. Spiegelberg was recommended to me by a friend who'd had a hip replacement procedure done by him at St. Albans City Hospital in August 2019. I had total confidence in Mr. S. before I even met him 'cos I Googled his name first and read about him. Only to be re-enforced once we'd met. The Covid situation meant being on an NHS waiting list for (possibly) a year or more, so I decided to go private due to my increasingly uncomfortable right hip. Like many other people covid had ensured that there would be no NHS operations so we had to make the decision to self pay out of our savings and go private. I was so glad I did. Covid delayed my operation but i went in on Nov20 with some fear from the google reviews about a hip replacement. I am absolutely overwhelmed at the magic that Dr Spiegelberg and his team have made happen - I had almost no pain from the operation or immediately after; was able to leave hospital after 2 days; abandoned my crutches after 5 days and other than a tiny infection in my wound which a GP nurse quickly addressed this has been an unbelievably positive experience. I am now sleeping like a log walking back up to 10K steps a day and carefully trying out jogs on a running machine..my kids and friends have all noticed my 'gangster walk'/limp has disappeared - I feel I have been given back 10 years of my life. Honestly I cannot recommend Dr Spiegelberg enough and would like to say to anyone feeling frightened as I was, please do not hesitate, this really is a life changing operation if handled by the right consultant and his team. I am truly thrilled to be completely mobile so quickly and able to be there in every way for my partner, kids and friends so soon after the operation. Thank you Dr Spiegelberg and all the team involved - I dont have the right words to thank you enough.

Mr Spiegelberg performed a partial knee replacement for me in November. This was after I had been under his care for arthritis for 3 years. Initially I was reluctant to undergo the surgery but the quality of the treatment I had received previously gave me confidence in his advice. Mr Spiegelberg was very reassuring before, during and after the procedure. I'm now 6/7 weeks post op and it has been successful, I'm walking better than any time in the last 5 years and will only be happier when I get the other one done too.

I cannot speak too highly of this doctor who carried out a full hip replacement. He is obviously experienced and knowledgeable, and also kind and caring, wishing to do everything possible to have the best possible outcome and making the patient feel confident and important including through periods subsequent to the hospital stay. I do not think the treatment I had from him could have been improved, and I would certainly recommend him.

I felt quietly reassured both at consultations before and after my knee replacement surgery. The operations went well and I was able to feel relaxed. The care I received from Mr Spiegelberg and all the staff was exemplary. I’ve told him that, should I need a hip replacement sometime (hopefully not!) I would certainly ask for him to perform the surgery.

I have been in the care of Mr Spiegelberg for a couple of years initially for steroid injections, then waiting for operations which due to reasons beyond our control had to be cancelled. Initially when the operation was first put through funding was refused by 'the powers that be'. Mr Spiegelberg was very good in writing supportive letters to try and reverse this decision. Eventually a date was set but again things were postponed on a number of occasions for different reason, the final ones being COVID. However, throughout all of this I was kept informed and felt that Mr Spiegelberg was very much on my side and keen to get me on the list. When the procedure did take place Mr Spiegelberg explained exactly what was going to happen and what the outcomes were likely to be. The operation went extremely well and it was interesting to be 'awake' during the time as I had an spinal anaesthetic. Recovery has been very good and after six weeks I was able to ride my indoor exercise bike and have now begun cycling outside. Important to do your exercises!! I have been most impressed with the care I have received throughout the whole time and the way I have been kept informed. Mr Spiegelberg has an excellent manner and is more than happy to spend time to ensure things are understood. I have no worries in recommending him.

My mother have been having knee pains for over a year and was really struggling to walk. She is not from the UK and doesn't speak good English. I went with her to meet Mr Spiegelberg for a consultation in August this year. He explained all the pros and cons of the knee replacement surgery, patiently answered all the questions from me and my mother (and we had a lot of them!) and was putting extra effort to speak to my mother slowly so that she understood him. After the consultation we felt very confident and decided to go ahead with the surgery. My mother had operation end of September - it went flawlessly and Mr Spiegelberg was there every day during her stay in hospital to check up on her, answer all the questions and ease her concerns. Due to Covid restrictions I wasn't able to visit. He made and extra effort of calling me on the phone and checking if my mother understood everything he said and answer my questions too. He gave her confidence in every step of recovery ever since. 6 weeks after surgery my mother is pain free and walks like she haven't for years. She uses cane as a precaution but quite often even forgets about it. We are both extremely happy with the outcome and every single step of our journey. Mr Spiegelberg is a consultant who is happy to answer any questions, puts you at ease and gives you confidence. We are very grateful Mr Ben Spiegelberg was my mother's consultant and can't recommend him highly enough.

Mr Speiglberg has now operated on me twice, i now have 2 good hips. I am really happy with the results. I had a very good experience from referral to discharge. Mr Spiegelberg explained everything to me that was going to happen, also the pitfalls. He was always curtious, polite, understanding. Having seen Mr Speigelberg in July 2019 for an initial consultation there was no hesitation in putting me forward for a total left hip replacement. Attending the Orthopaedic Practitioners Clinic for their 2 hour Information talk was a huge help in understanding the whole procedure. Although I waited 8 months before I had an op date it all went ahead as planned. Despite being very nervous the whole team at St Albans Hospital Orthopaedic Centre were so caring, helpful, reassuring but always professional from the Nurses, HCAs, Doctors, Anaesthetists, Theatre team and a huge Thankyou to Mr Speigelberg for a successful hip replacement.

I had several appointments with another consultant for a fall prior to meeting Mr Spiegelberg. I explained the history of the fall which happened 5 months before and explained what had happened up to that point and the fact I was still in some pain. Mr Spiegelberg went through my situation explaining everything in a manner which was easy to understand and I felt comfortable asking questions which he was more than happy to answer and explain where necessary. He advised me for moving forward and suggested several things to aid recovery. He has a lovely friendly manner that makes you feel comfortable whilst feeling confident that he is extremely good at his job. We then had a telephone conversation due coronavirus. I cannot thank Mr Spiegelberg enough ! From the moment he told me that I did need a total hip replacement to the final post-surgery appointment I felt totally safe and confident. Mr Spiegelberg listened to and answered all my questions and worries with the greatest kindness and courtesy. His calm and caring approach do wonders ! I never felt just like another elderly hip ! The whole team at St Albans' Hospital was superb. The only downside is the NHS Connect team but that's another story . I am in my eighth week after surgery and can now resume my long forgotten daily walks. I feel a completely new person !

I am very grateful to Mr Spiegelberg and his team, the nurses at St Albans City Hospital and the physiotherapists who have all helped me return to fitness after a full knee replacement in July. This has enabled me to return to carrying out my voluntary conservation interests with the RSPB, BTO, ZLS Whipsnade and the Ver Valley Society, as well as being a more agreeable wife and Grandmother. Mr. Spiegelberg performed a total knee replacement on me at Watford General Hospital on 14th August 2019. Apart from having to wait in great pain for about 8 months for this operation, I have to say that from the moment I reported to the hospital on the day, I was treated to the best attention. I have waited 5 months in order to fully evaluate my hip replacement. The result is all I hoped for. No pain, no limp, back enjoying walking my dog, normal function to the point that I have forgotten I have a replacement hip. I feel years younger. This is result of an exceptional surgeon. Mr Spiegelberg took time to explain the risks and benefits of surgery. Most importantly I felt he saw me as an individual and not just another hip operation. Mr Spiegelberg gave me a total knee replacement atSt Albans Hospital. I first saw him at Watford Hospital where he introduced his self and then went on to examine my knee and look at the x ray. I next saw him at st Albans on the morning of my knee replacement. He was extremely reassuring and calmed any nerves i may of had. The St Albans knee unit is a great ward with great staff. I am currently waiting for a date to have my other knee done. I have no nerves because i put all my trust in mr Spiegelberg again. II can not recomend him enough. He explains everything in a way you understand, listens to what you have to say. The only downside to my op was i had no physiotherapy but this was down to the group that the nhs contracted.. Who i under they are still having problems with, but this is not the doctors fault. I would most definitely recommend Mr Spiegelberg. Thank you.

After years of physical fitness my meniscus cartilage in my right knee finally gave out (ripped) last November leaving me unable to straighten my leg fully. I was referred to Mr Spiegelberg. I cannot fault the NHS treatment I have received for this injury. I was seen by a consultant very quickly, followed by an MRI scan. I was then referred for surgery at St Albans hospital under the care of Mr Spiegelberg. I didn't have to wait too long for my surgery date. My surgery was done as a day case at St Albans by Mr Spiegelberg. I found him to be very approachable and down to earth. He explained my surgery very well to me before the procedure. He also came to see me after the procedure and talked me through the surgery and what he had done. Instead of removing my meniscus he actually repaired it. A longer recovery time but better for me in the long run. I am now 7 weeks post surgery and have made good progress in my recovery thanks to the expertise of Mr Spiegelberg and his team. I have been discharged today. Mr Spiegelberg took the time to come and have a chat with me before I was discharged. I would thoroughly recommend Mr Spiegelberg and have total confidence in him as a surgeon. I cannot thank him enough for giving me my life back.

A really gentle person who at all times made me feel relaxed. I first met Mr Spiegelberg in November 2018 regarding a left knee replacement. At all times when discussing the upcoming procedure I found a patient person and a good listener. On the day of the operation on March 25, 2019 Mr Spiegelberg and all of the theatre staff seemed to have a calming influence. An appointment was made for May 10, 2019 to discuss how things have gone. My right hip was replaced in March 2019 by Mr Ben Spiegelberg and his team. I am entirely satisfied with the treatment, which took place at St Albans City Hospital. Patients are offered a two-hour preparatory seminar with accompanying leaflets which I found extremely valuable. I was conscious throughout the operation and felt fully reassured by Mr Spiegelberg’s relaxed and friendly manner, and by the competence of his team. The hospital environment was tranquil and the post-operative care by the staff thorough and professional. Patients are instructed to exercise regularly and are encouraged to do so by the availability of appropriate equipment on loan from the hospital. All my appointments were on time. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Spiegelberg to others.

I'm really pleased to have chosen Mr.Spiegelberg to do my hip replacement. Eleven weeks post op my hip feels perfectly secure. I am virtually pain free. I'm back to walking and gardening, and about to fly abroad on holiday which hasn't felt possible for many a long day. I wanted to write this review for the excellent medical service and surgery I have received from Mr Spiegelberg. I landed in his office following several years of progressive hip bone degeneration to the point I had begun walking sideways and with one leg becoming distinctly shorter than the other causing a very much pronounced limp. I finally realised I needed help and just like you, researched it for several hours, days, months. I ‘limped’ into Mr Spiegelberg’s consulting room knowing exactly what I wanted, or did I ! I stated my issues and listened to all the pro’s and con’s that he gently went through with me, taking time to explain in great detail and suggested I go away and assimilate our discussion before progressing. I thought over our discussion, it was a life changing procedure after all, and decided a surgeon that cares this much about his patients would not fail me and went back and agreed to the surgery, total hip replacement. The care and attention I received throughout this process is nothing less than amazing. I did not feel like I was just another patient, I felt like an individual whose mental and physical well-being mattered. The caring and concern did not stop with the operation, it seemed to be as important to Mr Spiegelberg as it was to me that not only was I no longer in pain but my legs were the same length and that I could walk straight without a limp and, just as important, that my expectations were met. As you are reading this, I am sure you can identify with most of it and, having gone through it, my only advice would be to choose your surgeon for all the right reasons, not just for statistics; make sure they have time for you and your personal concerns; it will make a significant difference to the quality and speed of your recovery ! Mr Spiegelberg has now discharged me from his care but I know I will see him again….. I still have another hip !

I had a hip replacement at St Albans Hospital 28/11/2018 , Mr Spiegelberg visited me on the ward before the operation and explained what would happen and gave me estimate of what time I would go for surgery, he is very professional, polite and explains everything very clearly , he answers any questions and takes time to explain what to expect.Mr Spiegelberg visited me on the ward after the operation and said he would see me again at the 6 week post op appointment. I had a hip operation by Mr Spiegelberg and the moment I met him it gave me confidence that previously was lacking, convinced me to have an epidural instead of full anesthetic and during the procedure, I did not feel any pain or discomfort. His team was also very efficient and attentive and I have got very high respect for his work and demeanor and I praise and thank him for giving me back a good quality of life.

Great surgeon and very attentive.I had a replacement hip operation and he was there when I went in early morning and was still there late in the evening. Minimum discomfort afterwards and was able to drive within 3 days!

When I met Mr Spielgelburg for the first time I immediately felt at ease. He explained clearly in a professional & friendly manner just what would happen during the total knee replacement surgery, what the replacement joint was like, its track record, the importance of exercising & the follow up. He answered my questions & I felt very confident & reassured after the appointment. On the day of the operation he was reassuring when he came to the ward before the surgery & I felt confident in him as a surgeon.

Dr Spiegelberg is a lovely surgeon, I first met him at Watford Hospital and he agreed to do my hip replacement, I am aged 75, and I was over the moon that I was able to be treated by him. The operation was at St.Albans hospital at the beginning of November this year. I was in for three days then discharged. I had home visits from a physiotherapist who was of great help, I visited my Doctors Surgery to have the wound dressing changed but she said it was not needed as the wound had healed so well, excellent stitching at the operation was her comment !! I recovered well after doing all the exercises I was given, and went back to see Mr Spiegelberg on 7th Dec, he examined me and said I was doing very well and he signed me off. I cannot praise him enough for his care and his politeness .He is a wonderful surgeon and person. I cannot thank him enough. He changed my life.

I cannot sing the praises of this charming, humorous and very modest Gentleman enough, he has quite literally given me my life back and more. When I first met Mr Spiegelberg I was almost at the point of total collapse, I was in desperate need of a total hip replacement, every aspect of my life was filled with pain, I could barely walk, and to sleep I had to use a reclining chair, crucially my career in the Transport industry was suffering and at the point of ending. I honestly thought I would have to retire early on medical grounds and claim benefits, some thing I reallydid not want to do. To say I was both desperate and very depressed would be an understatement. During my initial consultation every aspect of my concerns were discussed, the operation and procedures and all scenarios and possible outcomes were outlined to me in great detail, each and every one of my questions were answered and for the first time in a long time I felt my burden was beginning to lift. On the day of the operation, I met Mr Spiegelberg and his team in St Albans Hospital, his gentle humour and confidence soon put me at my ease, after an epidural I was taken into the theatre, where once again the operation was explained and in no time at all, I was back on the ward where I awoke from the procedure with a minimum of discomfort, sporting a very neat surgical wound to my upper thigh and buttock. Two days after the operation I left the Hospital on crutches, within four weeks, I had returned to work on light duties. I now sleep in a bed, I can dress myself and put on my socks and shoes unaided, I have even returned to driving LGV vehicles, some thing I didn't think I would be able to do again. I now have my life back and don't intend to retire for another fifteen years, all thanks to this very modest, yet highly skilled surgeon to whom I owe a great deal of gratitude. To anyone who is need of orthopaedic surgery, I would always recommend they seek out the services of Mr Spiegelberg I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been treated by him, some thing I suspect all of his patients do. I saw Mr Spiegelberg somewhat briefly, for a confirmatory consultation. He greeted me with curtesy ,considered and explained to me the results of an x ray based upon a history of hip resurfacing. I have every confidence in the explanations he provided and would highly recommend him.

I have just had a total hip replacement and this maestro surgeon Dr Spiegelberg took away all the pain I had been suffering from wrongly diagnosed GP advice , emphasising housemaids knee- ha ha! Ben is a really nice, friendly and extremely competent Surgeon. He explained fully the details of my impending Knee replacement operation including the possible negative side of things and immediately sorted out my Physio appointments at my post surgery follow up consultation, after I had waited 6 weeks to be contacted by the Physio team. Had my total knee replacement almost a year ago at St Albans hospital with Ben Spiegelberg. The operation was a complete success and the recovery a lot quicker than I had expected. I returned to work after 10 weeks and have had no problem with my new knee. It has given me a new lease on life. Mr Spiegelberg is a very kind, attentive surgeon, who spends time answering questions in language which is easy to understand. He came to recovery to assure me the operation went well and the following morning he visited to answer any questions and to inform me of what to expect in the following weeks. My stay on the ward was a pleasant experience, with all the nurses, physios, kitchen staff and cleaners all working together to aid my recovery.

I write on behalf of my 84 year old mother who has had two operations this year, conducted by Mr Spiegelberg. In February my mother had a total hip replacement and in September, a full knee replacement (same leg) at St Albans Hospital. Mr Spiegelberg was very patient, taking the time to explain the cause, the process for the replacements and procedure for both operations. Upon admission, a bed-side visit was made on both occasions to ensure my mother was at ease and I cannot fault the support team who assist and the nursing staff on the ward, for the care during the operations and post op. Mr Spiegelberg took the time to ensure that he met with my mother, for her post op appointments, the last being today. I cannot express enough, how much the professional approach of Mr Spiegelberg was appreciated. It has given my mother a new lease of life!

Had severe arthritis in right hip which required hip replacement. Found Mr Spiegelberg very caring and professional. At the end of my operation he explained what he had done he also took the trouble to come on the ward before going home to see how I was, I can't speak highly enough of this surgeon. I have just seen him prior to being discharged, once again he was very caring. You have asked for constructive suggestions on how my treatment could be improved - from the hospital cleaner, nurses and surgeons at St. Albans hospital I doubt the care could be improved - THANK YOU

It has been six months since my hip replacement and I can honestly say it was a complete success. The care I have received throughout, be it pre-op or at present is commendable. Every person involved have been genuinely helpful and always professional. Obviously, one goes on a waiting list which can vary in time but the end result is worth all the anticipation. On the day of my surgery I was introduced to the anaesthetist and then the surgeon, Dr Spiegelberg. He explained to me the entire procedure and gave complete reassurance, the scar left was minimal and smooth. I am now walking without any aid whatsoever and my posture and improved tremendously. Dr Spiegelberg is a marvellous surgeon and I can never thank him enough for all he has done for me. I have my life back thanks to him. Thank you Dr Spiegelberg

After many years of pain in my knees especially during the last few months every step i took hurt not able to take my dog for a walk even going shopping hurt. It was suggested that i had a complete knee replacement at first i was not keen as i had heard that the pain was excruciating but i was in a lot of pain anyway so yes i decided to have it done. six weeks down the line i am on the road to recovery thanks to Mr Ben Spiegelberg before going to surgery Mr Spiegelberg came to see me. his approach was very friendly explaining what time i was in surgery the respect and dignity was first class. Mr. Spiegelberg welcomed us with a friendly approach. The Consultation session was unhurried and he answered our questions in a frank manner. As the cost of a full knee operation carried out privately was beyond my ability to meet such a cost, Mr. Spiegelberg suggested a referral made by my G.P. for such an operation to be made and added to the NHS waiting list. Mr. Spiegelberg showed some understanding of my concern regarding the long delay and continued pain will have to manage. I appreciated having a copy of the diagnostic information but perhaps it would have been helpful to have it in non-medical terms for a fuller understanding on my part

Suffered with my knees due to an injury /adjustment possibly in yoga and tried to repair both knees myself through gentle muscle strengthening exercises with no progress for one year . As a last resort was the operation and little faith in ever having my knees back in full recovery. Now 3 weeks after my arthroscopy I am delighted my left knee has space within it and I have full range of movements again soooooo happy and very pleasantly surprised. I am a seventy year old woman who has had severe arthritis for the last 40years and four hip replacements. On 21st April 2018 I fell and broke my femur. I was rushed into Watford General Hospital and was lucky enough to be seen in A&E by Ben Speigelberg. He explained in great detail how complicated the break was and he wanted to wait several days to decide the best way to move forward to give the leg the best chance of a complete recovery. I have several family members who are medics, and he was willing to explain his proposed treatment to my A&E consultant niece. The operation was a complete success. I had a total hip replacement on the 11th August. I was really scared about the operation but Mr Ben Spiegelberg really put me at ease. Such a lovely man, very caring and understanding. I had the operation with the Spinal Block anaesthetic which was painless and stress free. Mr Ben Spiegelberg and the anaesthetist Dr. R.
