I went to see Dr Kash Akhtar for an ongoing knee pain. He completed tests to find out what was wrong and carried out an injection to relieve the pain. He has also made me feel really confident in returning back to the gym but also reassured me that if I ever needed to get back in touch, I can. So friendly and helpful, 100% recommend.

I went to see Dr Kash Akhtar for a torn meniscus at the Cleveland Clinic in central London. He is a very likeable and direct person and his self confidence in medical issues provides great comfort in his ability to advise and medically treat your orthopedic issues. I went for an initial and then a follow-up appointment and felt I received very good advice, was not pushed into any rushed decision and left reassured that I was on a path to sustainable long term healing. Both of his written letters were provided swiftly within 24 hours to a good level of detail in case any follow-on issues that require medical attention recur. I warmly recommend Kash Akhtar.

Kash Ahktar has simply been fautless since our first appointment. Following a ski accident, I experienced my first ever serious injury - knee related - which is really daunting. After not feeling too confident with the first surgeon I was linked up with, on recommendation from my physio I booked in to see Kash. He was highly knowledgeable and made me feel really informed with my options - surgical/non surgical. I had a snapped ACL, torn MCL and fairly extensive bone bruising, and wanting to return to o.sport with zero doubt in my mind, I felt a op would give me peace of mind. After Kash performing 4 meniscus tests on me, I passed two and failed two so it was 50:50 chance of meniscus damage too and would only be able to confirm during the operation. After setting out the options for the graft, being a female and wanting to minimise scarring I opted for an allograft (donor tissue) and Kash reassured me of it’s reliability in the modern day as opposed to 30 year old research that still is accessible on the internet! All in all I went into my op feeling reassured that I was in really capable hands which really does alleviate so much stress at an otherwise daunting time. Post op, there was indeed meniscus damage and an additional requirement to shave some bone, but Kash explained everything to me thoroughly afterwards (with photos!!!) and I’m seeing him in two weeks for my follow up! Thanks Kash for being so amazing!!!

Prep call before the consultation. Consultation on time. Kash listened to my symptoms and provided very clear simple to understand explanation of what the issuea might be. Proposed x-rays and MRI. X-ray done straight away, MRI two days later. Kash was then travelling overseas for next couple of weeks but agrees to phone me once he had the results of the MRI. He did this and now understand my options which at this stage do not include any surgery. Brilliant service.

He thoroughly investigated my knee’s pain, excellent arrangements with different departments in timely manner from the point of booking the first visit (being new patient to Cleveland Clinic), various diagnostic tests and the follow up visit. True professional with friendly welcome makes you feel at ease and knowing him before. Down to the point explaining everything at the level of my medical awareness and understanding. Well communicated treatment management along with recommendations and GP letters on the same day of the visit. What a better experience you could wish for?

I am a returning customer, as five years ago I decided to repair my meniscus only and not fix my ruptured ACL against Kash suggestion. And here we are... five years later needing ACL surgery since a bad fall re-injured my meniscus. Kash is an outstanding surgeon and I wouldn't have let anyone else touch my knee: I in fact followed him from the previous clinic to his new one. He's not only a great surgeon that was able to repair once again my badly injured meniscus, but also an empathetic person, who followed me throughout my recovery and the many questions I had during my journey. I cannot recommend him enough and I am very thankful for bringing me back on my own two feet! I am now almost back to my previous level of activity and not afraid to play sports I wasn't confident to do before since I did not have an ACL.

Mr Akhtar has been a pleasure to deal with. I visited him approximately 2 years after injuring my knee and following numerous visits to a variety of other professionals, none of whom had solved the issue or inspired confidence (one seemed interested only in surgical interventions and indeed redoing an ACL replacement in my other leg). Mr Akhtar has been a breath of fresh air. First, he treats me like a sentient adult as opposed to a potential invoice. Secondly, he inspires trust and confidence and third, his recommendations make sense and work. He took time to understand how the injury had been suffered, my current lifestyle and levels discomfort and after a thorough physical examination and set of X-rays and scans, he gave a clear diagnosis, explained the range of potential treatments and possible adverse consequences of each option and then recommended treatment that not only suited my lifestyle and age but has actually worked.

I had the privilege of being treated by Mr. Kash Aktar as my knee surgeon. I had surgery a year ago after a skiing accident left my knee severely damaged. Thanks to Mr. Aktar’s expertise and care, my knee is now better than ever. The surgery was successful, and one year post- surgery, I'm now pain-free with improved mobility and strength, allowing me to get back to my active life. The dedication to my recovery and follow-up care made a significant difference. I highly recommend Mr. Aktar to anyone in need of a knee surgeon.

Dr Kash has been more than professional, friendly and transmitted peace to myself since I arrived to his office. I had a bad knee injury, and I was very nervous of what I could have. He was able to calm me down, sort out what was going on plus the help of imaging to then organize a recovery plan. After following up and couple months later, I am now back running and playing football - hopefully there will not be any future knee injuries for myself, but if that is the case, I already know where to go.

I injured my knee in June 2022. After extensive research I opted to visit Kash due to the glowing reviews and his experience at The Fortius. A few years prior I was unfortunate enough to rupture my ACL in my other leg and saw a top consultant, although the procedure went very well I wasn’t satisfied with the level of patient care or facilities. When I first met Kash it was as if he had known me for years, extremely upbeat, friendly and cared about my issue. He took the time to exam the knee thoroughly and performed a range of tests, only then did he look at the MRI to verify his findings. We decided on some bracing and RICE to allow things to settle down before any long-term procedures were explored. After the bracing and RICE period, he explained in detail what had happened to my knee with models, slides and the MRI and discussed the options available to me. Although I had completely ruptured my ACL, had a grade 2 MCL and some meniscus damage, to my complete surprise he actually suggested that I don’t have an operation (surrounding structures were strong and not buckling, giving way or catching and minimal swelling). For somebody whose primary pay comes from performing surgery this was quite surprising, and shows he genuinely cares for his patients. In the end i did elect to undergo surgery as I wanted to continue playing sport at a competitive level. The facilities and staff at Cleveland Clinic were on another level. I was treated like a celebrity. If you want REAL private care, so not hesitate for a moment and visit one of the specialist at Cleveland Clinic. I had regular check ups with Kash throughout the last year or so, and he even got another top tier consultant to step in for a scheduled check up when he was away at a conference. Throughout the journey, Kash was available to answer all my questions and concerns through the brilliant app. I was able to start gentle practise sessions after 3 months and was able to start playing competitive sport in a controlled manner at ~6 months. I was recently fully signed off to resume full activity. Thanks for all your help. Brilliant consultant, even better guy. I’ll miss our chats about everything and anything!

Mr Akhtar is an absolutely brilliant Doctor!! I cannot thank him enough for ending my years long discomfort in my knee. I visited Mr Akhtar with an old Meniscus Tear that happened in 2010 which was starting to become quite painful, (13 year old meniscus tear)! I was experiencing locking and pain in my knee regularly which then became weekly/daily. From the very first consultation with Mr Akhtar I knew that I wouldn’t trust anyone else with fixing my knee, he explained everything he planned to do in a way I could understand and I left the appointment feeling confident in the plan we had discussed. If I knew how painless and easy the whole surgery and recovery process was going to be for me, I would never have waited so long to get my knee sorted!!! I’m 7 weeks post op now and I feel like I never even had surgery! I would highly recommend Mr Akhtar! If I ever have another Knee issue or someone in my family does, I will 100% go back to Mr Akhtar! Thankyou very much!

Dr. Kash performed two knee surgeries on me and I have nothing but respect for him. Meniscus repair and an ACL graft were performed on me. I am an active person who enjoys sports (running, boxing, cycling, and paddling), therefore I wanted to give myself the best opportunity of a quick recovery. Dr. Kash has the capacity to explain things in sufficient detail, which many other doctors lack. He is sympathetic and clearly listens to the request, while also allowing me the space and time I require to make a decision. I am very pleased to say that I am in top shape and able to perform most physical activity due to my excellent recovery. In my opinion, Dr. Kash is very knowledgeable and clearly a very intelligent person. I wish him success for his future.

I had the good fortune to first meet Kash (and the misfortune to require his help) in early 2022 after a complex sports injury left me in need of a leading orthopaedic consultant to navigate the situation. After a thorough recommendation from a friend that Kash was someone I needed to see, we embarked on a series of prehab, surgery and follow-ups lasting a total 15 months from first meeting to final sign-off. On every occasion Kash provided a seminal blend of confidence-inspiring domain-expertise and disarmingly good humour. Despite the gravity of my situation we shared many a laugh, and he taught me a great deal more than I needed to know about the inner workings of my knee both before and after treatment (not to mention a gripping video of the surgery itself). It is credit to his total dedication towards traumatic knee injuries (particularly sporting injuries) that his intervention has set my life on very different path to the one I was looking at when we first met - skiing, mountain biking, road cycling, running and kitesurfing have all made returns to my life after the pre-requisite rehabilitation work. I shall remain indebted to his help for many, many years to come.

I visited Mr Akhtar due to a problem with one of my knees. He was very professional, after a preliminary investigation, he very clearly explained the suggested course of action involving X-rays and MRI. These scans were arranged swiftly and the follow up appointments also arranged within a short time-frame. Mr Akhtar listens well, and is an excellent communicator, explaining technical medical points in plain English. He suggested that several course of action. We agreed to start with physiotherapy which has significantly improved the use of the knee. Managed to avoid other interventions, though comforting to know that they could be arranged, if required, with just a phone call. Over the years, knees suffer from wear and tear, Mr Akhtar gave me a thorough understanding of the minor issues which could require some attention in the future. Back to cycling now, and looking forward in due to course, to resuming the great game of golf. A pleasure to have met Mr Akhtar, and had him resolve the issue with my knee. Would thoroughly recommend him along with the excellent physiotherapist who has provided regular updates back to Mr Akhtar. In summary, an excellent consultant, great communicator.

I have been seeing Mr. Akhtar for 4 or 5 years as a result of tears in my MCL and Meniscus, as well as a loose ACL following reconstruction 10 years prior with another surgeon. He understood my ongoing issues, the affects on my body and was sympathetic to how surgery and types of recovery would impact my work and family life. Mr Akhtar was able to present options to me on how to manage (strengthen) or repair some or all of my injuries. Together we agreed on a phased strategy to explore all non surgical options, before then looking at surgeries. I opted for a Meniscus repair after trying non surgical options, this was phase 1 of 3 of my surgical options. The operation went very well, my immediate post op recovery was incredibly fast and three months after the operation, I am still pain free. If the pain or instability comes back I know we have a plan to deal with my two remaining injuries, which is very comforting. Having dealt with other surgeons in the past I can confirm that Mr Akhtar for communication, knowledge and surgical procedure has been the best. I will continue to see Mr Akhtar if I do have any future knee issues.

I have visited Kash Akhtar twice now with concerns over arthritis, specifically in one of my knees, but incorporating other surrounding and ensuing problems. I am so happy to have been recommended to him. I cannot speak highly enough of the attention he gives to the situation. He 'listens' and explains in detail his reasonings behind the prognosis which in my case involved an amateur's anatomy lesson with reference to diagrams.Understanding is basic and essential to improvement and correction: this he gives with honesty, reassurance and encouragement. He is patient and kind and approachable and I am very grateful for his advice. Moreover he has made it clear that he is always willing to help if needed - a thoroughly reliable and safe pair of hands.

I’ve seen Kash twice, firstly about 3 years ago with a sore knee when he was at the Fortius clinic. He was thorough and I was impressed by his attitude that we would only operate as a last resort - my knee cleared up with his prescribed physio and all is good. The second time was recently in March 2023 with a suspected partial tear of the calf. He was reassuring and managed to secure me appointments for MRI and Ultrasound the next day. With the ultrasound, a DVT was found. Despite not being there, Kash secured urgent follow up and I was seen an hour later and admitted. I saw him shortly after outside of normal hours where he clearly went through the next steps I needed to take (despite them not being orthopaedic related) and suggested suitable colleagues to see. An all round good doctor who clearly takes his profession seriously and wants his patients to do well.

I went to see Kash having been diagnosed with a torn meniscus on both knees, preventing me from running and causing constant pain. As others have mentioned, Kash has an excellent and professional, friendly manner. He explained the results of an MRI scan clearly, and was both reassuring and pragmatic with the options available to me in order to meet my goal of being able to run again. I found Kash very approachable and responsive on any questions I had - either during consultation, via email or pre and post my operation. His extensive experience as a surgeon was also very reassuring. Working closely with physios following my operation and following Kash's advice and guidance I have been able to make a good recovery - now walking, sitting and standing pain free, and have started to run again. I appreciated Kash's advice on being realistic about returning to running, and to what level I could continue given the damage I had sustained to my knee - and have been very pleased that I have now been able to run 5k again pain free without any swelling, within 4 months of my operation. I am also aware that I won't be able to run any marathons any time soon, but finding the right level to enable me to continue to run without causing or accelerating any further deterioration has been the right "medicine" here - and I appreciate the friendly but candid approach Kash has taken throughout my care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kash and have been very grateful for his advice

I unfortunately injured my knee in a bizzare incident whilst playing sports and had no idea the damage that had been done. I went to the physio a few months after and they recommended me to visit Kash Akhtar, a knee specialist. I went to see Kash and even before attending the initial appointment I was confident I was going to get a positive interaction/consultation with Kash as he is the best of the best. Kash was quick to diagnose my issue and done a quick but thorough assessment of my knee. I was then recommended by him to get an MRI arranged to see exactly what the issue in my knee was. The MRI was arranged by Kash at the first appointment, saving me the headache of having to book the appointment myself having never done so before. After having the MRI I went to see Kash again and was explained the results of the MRI in detail and was given a future plan on getting myself back to full knee fitness over the next few months. The great thing about seeing Kash was I was never ever worried before or after the appointments as I was well aware I was in good care at the hands of Kash. Great doctor and a nice guy overall.

After an unfortunate accident, I was diagnosed with a torn ACL and meniscus root tear through MRI. Determined to find the best knee specialist, I sought out a regional expert who informed me that repairing a root tear is challenging and uncommon. When I asked for a recommendation, he didn't hesitate to suggest Kash, an orthopaedic surgeon on the cutting edge of the latest orthopaedic techniques. From the moment I met Kash, I felt confident in his abilities. He was professional, approachable, and took the time to answer all my questions in great detail. As someone who had researched my injury and surgery extensively, I appreciated that Kash didn't brush off my queries or concerns. He even questioned the radiographers' initial diagnosis of a full root tear, which was later confirmed to be incorrect after surgery. Throughout the entire process, Kash's expertise and patient care were exceptional. He put me at ease and provided a positive outlook for my recovery, all while maintaining a great sense of humour. I highly recommend Kash to anyone in need of knee surgery or orthopaedic care. Beyond his medical skills, Kash's has a great podcast and I also appreciated his restaurant recommendations! I had the unfortunate experience of fully rupturing my right knee alongside severely damaging the meniscus in my knee. I was referred to Orthopaedic team at Royal London Hospital. I was feeling very depressed and down as I was always an active sports person and played tennis in local leagues and competitive tournaments. The first surgeon I saw said that I could continue with my life without surgery and not go through this. That made me very disheartened. Then I was introduced to Dr Kash Akthar, he was a godsend. He listened to my expectations and told me that after carefully looking at my case, he suggests an ACL reconstruction and while at it, he will fix my meniscus as well as it was damaged. I was not even aware of that damage. He was very thorough in his explanation and assuring me that I would be able to get back to old norm after surgery and physio. He was there for me from start to finish. On the day of the surgery, it was a pleasure to see him even before I was put under general and he calmed my nerves and told me that I was in good hands. I remember waking up and seeing him even before I left the hospital. He said the surgery was a great success and under 62 minutes he has managed to put a graft from my hamstring to my ligament and fix my meniscus as well. I started playing tennis again competitively and I have not had a single issue. It felt like I’ve never had the surgery. The scar is also very minimal and I’ve on occasions played tennis for up to 5 hours per day without any issues. Thank you Doctor Kash for everything, your expertise help not only helped my knee but also helped me mentally to recover and get stronger. I will super highly recommend Dr Akthar to everyone. Best wishes to all.

Would highly recommend Kash. I had a grade two tear in my MLC which Kash correctly identified before my MRI! Kash has provided me with all the support, answers to all my 100s of questions, and everything I have needed to make a recovery. All appointment's were always on time and Portland place was a great facility to meet Kash at. Thanks a lot.

Dr Akhtar carefully listen to me and carefully reviewed my medical history. He clearly explained what the problem with my knee was and how are we going to go about it. He reassured me that it is fixable and no surgery is needed. He also explained the issue and the ways of fixing it. I have seen few doctors in the past regarding the same problem but for the first time I felt that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Dr. Akhtar is very approachable and easy to speak to.

Kash has been very helpful and insightful from when I first ruptured my ACL all the way to today where my knee is basically as strong as previously. He was incredibly knowledgeable in understanding from a early stage the extent of my injury. When I was ready for surgery, he calmed me prior to the procedure, for which went successfully. Since the surgery, follow up meetings were very useful and he assisted my physio into noting what exercises I should be doing to help my knee.

I was recommended to Kash after almost a year of extreme pain in my left knee, and not really getting to the bottom of the issue. After numerous physio sessions, a steroid injection into the left knee at another practice, I was feeling pretty debilitated and couldn't see light at the end of the tunnel. I thought of getting a second opinion and a sports masseuse recommended Kash. Kash on reading my symptoms thought I'd be a slam dunk candidate for surgery, but in assessment, he exercised causion and wasn't convinced of surgery and advised that most likely my ITB was very inflammed, which upon an MRI was confirmed. A steroid injection into the ITB has now sorted the pain, I have resumed gentle exercise and hope to get back to running later this year. Kash has a great, positive attitude, and a very honest approach. He's very efficient and to the point, which I appreciated. I highly recommend Kash for any knee problems you may be having.

I had a great experience with Dr Akhtar during a scheduled knee surgery. I particularly appreciated the very clear explanations covering medical terminology in non medical terms for me to understand clearly. Kash spent lots of time going through the range of possible outcomes and how we would address each of these should they materialize, treatment plans, timelines, etc Spent time answering ALL my questions. Great follow on treatment as well. In a number of our conversations Kash quoted research in his field and how that would apply or read across to my particular case and circumstances. Finally, I think the best endorsement I can provide is that I recommended Dr Akhtar to my sister as well post my surgery and rehab and she was equally favourably impressed and satisfied with the consultation received and Dr Akhtars conclusions and recommendations.

After months of pain/discomfort thinking I'd had a minor strain or ligament issue after skiing I was eventually diagnosed by Mr Akhtar with an osteochondral fracture. From the outset he took care and time to explain everything and to provide guidance around recovery - including why surgery was not the best long term option (which I appreciated). Despite taking a long time to heal, the injections and scans ordered were reassuring and showed progress - and were talked through with care. All in all his manner was excellent and advice helpful. I also appreciated his coordination with my physio throughout as part of my recovery. Would recommend for sure.

As a highly active and very sporty 58 year old, I was obviously mightily dismayed, to be informed (May 21) that I had potentially torn my ‘meniscus’ in my right knee whilst playing my beloved tennis. Having undergone various ‘first class’ physiotherapy sessions my Physio, decided to referral me to a specialist in Sports, Exercise and Musculoskeletal medicine for further investigation. Following an MRI, this duly confirmed that I had in fact torn the ‘root meniscus’ which unfortunately for me was slightly less straight forward than a standard surgical repair. As this was going to be a fairly technically orientated operation, the specialist recommended that I should undergo additional consultation with Mr Akhtar. From the very first moment that my wife and I met with Mr Akhtar it was clear that this guy was an expert in his field. Right from the word go, Mr Akhtar thoroughly and clearly explained the procedure and although slightly apprehensive, put my mind at rest. I went on to have my operation on 25/06 and am delighted to report that this has been a great success, totally down to the brilliance and subsequent aftercare of Mr Akhtar. Furthermore I would throughly recommend ‘Kash’ who I now classify almost as a friend to anyone in a similar situation to my own. Adam Gadenne

Like anyone who have ruptured their ligament in their knee is not a very happy feeling to have. Limits your capabilities in physical work or leisure time. Having surgery on my knee is a scary thought. Did not feel like I would want to have surgery. Surgery day before going in for the procedure he came and reassured me about the surgery which for me was very nice and was felt more confident going through it. Going through the whole experience with Mr Akhtar was a blessing. He said he will do a fantastic job on my knee and he kept to his word. My knee feels normal I am able to run do exercise.

I suffered a series of significant knee injuries (ACL, MCL, meniscus tear and cartilage lesion) following a routine jumping/landing during sports and was recommended to see Kash to explore specialist treatment. Based on my experience with Kash, he provided clear analysis of the MRI diagnostics, explanation of available treatment options & their implications (e.g. surgical and non-surgical, ACL graft choices and cartilage treatment options). He is very knowledgeable, caring, always make sure that I understand the decisions made during the journey and ensure that I am in the best possible condition pre-surgery to maximize outcome from the surgical treatment. Overall, I am very thankful that not only he managed to complete the ACL reconstruction well, he also managed to save/repair my meniscus tear (rather than debridement) and also treated my cartilage damage. I would highly recommend him for anyone who is looking for professional treatment options to their knee issues.

I first came into contact with Dr Akhtar, when I came into my consultation for my ACL injury through the NHS. He instantly asked about the type of person I am how competitively I play football and took it all into consideration for when I had my surgery and the type of surgery I had. As I am an elite athlete and I already waited nearly 9 months for a surgery he put me on the urgent list and allowed me to have my surgery ASAP. December came round and he came to see me on the morning of my operation and talked me through the surgery and what will happen after. This made me feel very confident going into surgery. The surgery went well and Dr Akhtar came to see me as soon as I woke up and spoke to me about the surgery explaining what he found what he done and where do we go from here. He made everything very clear for me which took a lot of stress away from me. Also, something I really appreciate with Dr. akhtar and I can't thank him enough is the type of surgery he done. Knowing I am a young footballer he done a surgery that is very good for my position an my sport, which when I went to my physio they was very happy with how the surgery went. He explained the situation with my Mencius very Cleary and came to me after surgery making very clear going though the images which helped a lot A few days after my surgery he called me to just check up with what im doing and how I am getting on. He gave me tips and ways to overcome pain and help range of motion which really helped. Once I started physio with Isokentic, my doctor knew Dr.Akhtar he was really pleased that I had him has my surgeon and was really happy that with the type of surgery and how it was conducted. During my 9 months at Isokentic Dr.Stride who was my doctor at the clinic and Dr. Akhtar kept in contact going over my progress which really helped as when we had check ups everyone was in the loop which where I am at. I saw Dr Akhtar every couple of months through the NHS and what I really appreciated is that he made sure he was at every check and I spoke to him and had face to face contact. Going back into football he was always honest with me and always made sure I knew the best time to return and how to go back into sports and full contact sports which was really helpful. I had my last check up with him and he made me feel very worthwhile with all the work I put it to get back to fitness and he was a huge part to that as he gave me the foundations and was always with me throughout my rehab journey, either through face to face check up, random phone call check ups or catch ups with Dr Stride. He was amazing throughout the whole process and I can't thank him enough with how to treated me as a patient, especially during the pandemic. I honestly believe, I wouldn't be in the position I am now going back into elite football without Dr.Akhtar help!

Mr. Akhtar has been overseeing my care for just over one year now, and I could not be happier with the progress we've made and the incredibly high standard of treatment I've received under his care. My experience has been a wonderful combination of what was once upon a time called bedside manner, and total professionalism. Whenever further information has been necessary in order to make informed decisions about my care, the requisite investigative work has been ordered and dealt with efficiently and quickly, with clear explanations as to why such measures were necessary. At all times I have felt listened to and any worries or concerns about my health have been not only noted, but discussed and factored into my recovery plan. At no point have I felt rushed or pushed into any course of action that I wasn't comfortable with, but on the contrary I have always found Mr. Akhtar to be supportive and willing to discuss an array of options and the pros and cons of each. When the time came to consider if it was appropriate to discharge me from his care, Mr. Akhtar ensured that it was a two way conversation and that the decision was made mutually and with a good understanding of my plans moving forwards. I cannot recommend Mr. Akhtar highly enough, his integrity and professionalism have been second to none and it has been an absolute pleasure to be under his care.

I saw Kash following a skiing accident and he made sure I got an MRI scan quickly to assess the situation. He recommended a knee brace to maximise my chances of not needing surgery which proved to be an effective course of treatment. I had some lingering symptoms which were of concern so he booked me in for another MRI scan to see how it was healing, and check what was going on. He was good at clearly explaining everything and answering any questions I had. He was always honest about the possibility of needing surgery on my PCL and MCL but made it clear that he hoped to avoid this as it would be a long recovery - thankfully he was correct and my knee is now pretty much back to normal.

As a 21st century patient, Kash embodies everything I would want from a doctor: - Taking the time to explain everything in language that I can understand; both in terms of what is happening to my body medically and what my choices are - Giving me enough information that I was comfortable in making a decision - Not pushing for treatments for the sake of it When I first saw Kash, I was in a great deal of pain. If anyone had told me at the time that the right course of physiotherapy would be appropriate (no medication, no surgery) I would not have believed them. However he was absolutely right - he put my in touch with exactly the right people who have materially changed my quality of life. His cheerful attitude is also exactly what nervous patients need. I am one of those people who has never had any major medical problems and have never been ill in hospital so when my knee started to hurt continuously (having ignored it over 5 years of on-and-off pain) I was apprehensive about seeing an orthopaedic surgeon and feared the worst. Kash immediately put me at ease with his positive energy, attentiveness, sharp perceptiveness to a patient's thoughts, and effective communication. After a thorough investigation and patient history, he came up with his hypothesis as to what could be the problem - Fat Pad Impingement and Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome. On the same day an MRI was carried out on my knee to establish what the problem was. Two days later over a zoom call, Kash walked me through the MRI results that confirmed his hypothesis. With the aid of technology, he took the time to explain, with pictures and a marker, exactly where the problem was inside my knee cap, and how physiotherapy treatment would help with the pain. Not only is he knowledgeable in his field, he engenders trust and is very adaptable to clients' needs. Thank you Kash!

I would 100% recommend Kash to anyone with a knee injury. I have undergone ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair with great results. Kash was supportive from our first meeting, providing a thorough diagnosis and giving me total confidence in his expertise and experience. Following Kash's guidance I worked with a physio to obtain the maximum benefit before determining surgery would be the best longterm option for my knee and a successful return to sport. Kash shared a detailed pre-op timeline and actively coordinated with my physio to ensure my knee was in the best place to allow for a swift and sustainable recovery. Kash then performed a successful surgery where he was required to perform additional meniscus repair to give me the best results. I have been delighted with the results. Firstly from the pain-free surgery, the measured and clear recovery planning and then post-operative check-ins and consultations I've had with Kash since. I was signed off 10 months post op, which given the pandemic I'm really pleased with. I look forward to a full return to sport whenever possible! If I had to summarise why Kash is a great choice of surgeon, I'd say his honest and detailed approach which gave me full confidence in him, delivered with a good sense of humour throughout. I have been a colleague of Mr Akhtar's for more than 3 years. I have worked as a Senior Physiotherapist in both the United Kingdom as well as in Australia. As such, I have dealt with dozens of Consultants in my years of private practice. Few Consultants I have ever worked with come close to Mr Akhtar's level of professionalism. Clinically, Mr Akhtar is excellent. I have always had 100% confidence in referring a patient for an opinion on management. Mr Akhtar's team always endeavour to book in mutual patients promptly which is hugely beneficial to the management process. I would always receive a clinical letter with Mr Akhtar's rehabilitation recommendations within 24 hours, which again, is very beneficial for the patient's pathway to recovery. I have seen Mr Akhtar's patients post-operatively following a variety of surgical procedures such as arthroscopy, reconstructive surgery (such as ACL) and trauma surgery. I strongly endorse Mr Akhtar's abilities as a surgeon. Many of his cases recover ahead of expected due to the minimally invasive nature of his surgery. Swelling and early range of motion are almost always much better than with other surgeons. Mr Akhtar's clinical reasoning and surgical skills are complemented by a delightful bedside manner. He is warm, empathetic and caring to all patients. If you have a serious injury or are in serious pain, it can be a very stressful time. Mr Akhtar has an unparalleled ability to put people at ease in these difficult times. To re-iterate, Mr Akhtar is one of the best Doctors I have ever worked with - both in the UK and Australia. I still remember the first conversation I had with Kash about my injury. He knew exactly what was wrong after the diagnosis, gave me necessary support and confidence that the injury can be treated, and provided me with all the necessary information. Kash took enough time to show me models of the knee and explain the injury in detail. He was detailed in his explanation which allowed me to understand the complications and benefits of having an ACL replacement and Meniscus repair surgery. He gave me enough time to think through the surgery and prepare in the best possible manner. He coordinated with the Physical Therapy specialists to keep tabs on my progress pre and post surgery. The support Kash provided before the surgery gave the confidence that I am with the right consultant. He completed a complex ACL replacement and Meniscus repair surgery and gave me all the necessary post-surgery rehab guidance. His guidance ensured that I had a relatively pain free initial recovery (first four weeks after Surgery) and recovery after that. I definitely recommend Kash to anyone with knee complications. Having been a keen runner, I was forced to stop because of knee pain. Initial diagnosis (from elsewhere) was that I had Osteoarthritis, but worsening pain led me to request a second opinion and I was referred to Kash. He requested MRI scans and from these diagnosed SONK (Spontaneous Osteonecrosis of the Knee) as the major cause of my knee pain. With a steroid injection, rest and physio treatment, the pain has now largely gone and a follow up MRI has shown the condition to be significantly reduced. As a result, I am optimistic that a return to pain-free running could be possible. Throughout my diagnosis, treatment and follow up, I found Kash to be highly knowledgeable, professional and positive in all his interactions. He was always good at running through the MRI reports, discussing options and answering my many questions. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone experiencing knee pain.

Kash Akhtar performed a total knee replacement on my left knee approximately one year ago using the Conformis knee replacement. The operation was performed at The London Bridge Hospital where I received excellent service and where Kash was very attentive for the three days I was there. The knee was fitted perfectly and although it has taken longer to get back to ‘normal’ than I thought, I did not help myself by fracturing my left ankle in a couple of places three months after the operation. Kash has shown kindness, compassion and a very genuine concern for my wellbeing over this period and he has now signed me off. I have an excellent bend of the knee, can straighten my leg and am pain free. Whilst I was recovering following the self inflicted complication of the double fracture, Kash did not hesitate in seeking advice from his colleagues before speaking and advising me. He is an extremely talented, caring and compassionate person with whom it has been a pleasure to be treated by. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others.

I was referred to Dr Kash Akhtar after a MRI confirmed I had bucket handle tear of my meniscus as well as 4th degree deterioration of my cartilage. It what all quite daunting at first but I appreciated Dr Kash Akhtar's candid and positive approach to my situation and how we would go about repairing and then optimising my knee. 12 weeks on and I am back to the gym and extremely happy with my treatment. Kash is professional, knowledgeable and very personable. I highly recommend Kash to anyone looking for a knee surgeon.

He clearly explained everything from the type of tear to how he was going to repair it through surgery and made feel at ease straight away. On day of the surgery he explained everything again and made me feel very relaxed about it. 12 weeks on and I am back to the gym and extremely happy with my treatment. I underwent a knee arthroscopy for a torn meniscus in September 2018 which was performed by another Orthopaedic Consultant at a private hospital. After 6 months I suffered a serious set-back which caused me enormous anxiety due to restrictions on my mobility. My Surgeon had a busy schedule and could not see me for a review or provide a care plan. Having led a very active life I was once again in pain and distressed with being unable to carry on with normal daily activities. At this point I decided to seek another route and a second opinion. Following recommendations from friends who have been to the Fortius Clinic, I saw Kash Aktar in March. Since coming under his care, my knee has improved immeasurably and I am now able to carry on with my daily activities. Kash has been extremely supportive, helpful and reassuring. He provided me with a current care and maintenance plan to follow as well as a clear understanding of treatment required in the future. He connects well with his patients, gains their confidence and understands the importance of providing good on-going care. I would without hesitation recommend him to others. (Thanks Kash, you have made a difference!)

I had some stiffness in my left knee for which I went to see Mr Aktar. I was happy with Mr Aktar’s care. He was very good at first explaining how the knee joint worked, using a detailed model as demonstration which is an effective way for a layperson patient to understand rather than having a technical paragraph of explanation spoken at them. He also understood the need for the patient to know what was going on with their body and explained the medical jargon in reports without prompt to ensure that this was the case. He was thorough in his investigations and gave good and fair advice.

Kash was brilliant, fast and friendly. After the initial consultation I had an MRI on both knees and in the follow up consultation the MRI confirmed exactly all the issues that Kash had diagnosed in the first session. The whole process was complete within 2 weeks and we now have a non evasive treatment plan in place.

i was having issues with my knees and Kash was very helpful in diagnosing what the issue was in the first appointment and recommended physio, however he was very supportive if i wanted to get an MRI to confirm, which i did. The MRI confirmed exactly what he had said. He was very helpful in recommending my Physios where it was convenient for me to attend even though it wasn't an area that he is familiar with, however, he was able to reach out to his network and recommend me a Physio.

I ruptured my ACL playing football and was recommended to see Dr Kash Akhtar to treat me. From the initial consultation to the post Operative care Dr Akhtar has simply been outstanding. He is extremely knowledgable and was very reassuring during the consultation process. I required an ACL reconstruction on my right knee. Dr Akhtar put me at ease with the nature of the procedure and how it was going to be performed. The operation was a complete success and I am on the road to recovery. The fact that I had minimal pain after the operation is testament to the expertise of Dr Akhtar. The personal touch that Dr Akhtar provides is priceless , from being there to answer any questions / concerns pre or post Op , to recommending the physiotherapist best suited to aid my recovery. A great surgeon with a passion for his work. I would have no hesitation in recommending Dr Akhtar.

From day 1, Kash has been nothing but superb. He carefully listened to the issue I had, expertly provided his opinion and guided me to the best course of action for my knee. During the operation, I believe he went above and beyond what many others would do, resulting in a wonderful outcome for me and my knee. Post operation, again Kash was always available and never rushed any interaction , making sure all my questions were answered and I had all the information I needed. In comparison to my previous operation with another surgeon at a different hospital, I can safely say this has been a much more pleasant one. Kash has definitely saved my knee, and with that, my sanity. I could not thank him enough.

I had a severe bucket handle type meniscus tear. Kash performed a repair operation which has 30-40% fail rate in general, but he was very confident and he has fully delivered. It’s been 12 weeks after the operation today and I am back to normal. I once was worried during the recovery so he arranged to see me at short notice. Probably the best knee surgeon in London, I was very lucky to have been referred to him by AXA.

I just wanted to touch in to say thank you for the incredible work you did both before and after the surgery. You have enabled me to get much fitter and healthier than I was prior to this injury and I thank you immensely for that.

An update on my meniscal repair. I wanted to share that I’ve just come back from two skiing holidays, a week with the family, and immediately afterwards a long weekend with friends. After a gentle start for the first hour, I skied for the rest of the time at the same standard, pace, control and balance as when I last went - before my injury. It was amazing. I knew that my knee was 100% recovered when I realised that both my legs ached equally after spending a whole day skiing with people who live in the ski resort. I couldn’t tell which of my knees had had surgery. Many, many thanks for the excellent work, and the brilliantly paced rehabilitation.

Mr Akhtar was very friendly; he put me at ease and always apologised for running behind schedule, even if this was just by a couple of minutes. Mr Akhtar took time to explain the options available to me; it didn’t feel rushed and he didn’t force me into an operation. Everything was in plain English; Mr Akhtar drew diagrams and used models to ensure that I fully understood and could make an informed decision. The injection that I was given seems to have worked, which is a very good outcome as far as I am concerned; prior to this, I had weeks of physiotherapy with very little noticeable improvement in my symptoms. Even if this doesn’t work longer term Mr Akhtar gave me the option of going back for another injection in a couple of months’ time. Mr Akhtar always took the time to check whether I had any questions before leaving the appointment. I would highly recommend Mr Akhtar and I would feel comfortable approaching him regarding any further treatment in the future.

I am delighted by the care that I received from Kash Akhtar for my torn meniscus and give him my highest recommendation. His explanations of what he would likely find, and how he would proceed, during surgery were thorough and clear, and he gained my complete confidence. On the day of the procedure, he once again took me through what was going to happen, and gave me precise information about how I should structure my convalescence. I cannot believe how quickly I have recovered -- after months and months of pain, I am now walking quite normally and without any discomfort just two and a half weeks after the surgery -- indeed, the discomfort has been minimal throughout, even on the days following the procedure. In my follow-up appointment, Kash talked me through the video of the procedure, showing exactly what he had done (and not done) to address my poor ravaged meniscus. I enjoyed all my interactions with Kash -- he is a great communicator and an excellent surgeon. I consider him to be an intelligent and compassionate individual who also has technical skills and knowledges of the highest order.

After what seemed an innocuous fall, a number of months later, still hobbling with little progress and advised that surgery to replace my ACL was the next step, I went to see Mr Akhtar for a second opinion. He listened, was supportive, clinically clear and suggested an alternative non-operative approach. He proactively liaised and worked with my physio, and was always contactable. Not only did he get me back on my feet, he also got me back on my skis for the season. Where do I start? I am so glad I was referred to Dr Kash Akhtar for my ACL and Achilles treatment (two separate injuries). Dr Kash from the minute go till discharge was fully engaged with my treatment. I remember coming in for my ACL appointment and was very scared of the outcome and the possibility of not playing football again. The way Dr Kash tackle my thoughts and emotions to reassure me was just out of this world; he comforted my fears and assured me that all will be well and he’ll be at my side till the end. Dr Kashs approach is different to all the doctors I’ve come across. I had my ACL reconstructed, miniscus shaved and stitched and lastly my cartilage treated. It was a hell of an operation but with the steady hands of Dr Kash he obviously pulled it off and I am slowly getting back to sports now. In regards to the Achilles injury, I was referred by my GP to another doctor but then I quickly opted for Dr Kash to take on my treatment as he was an expert in the trauma and orthopaedic field. The first doctor that I saw didn’t even book an MRI scan for me but just told me to rest it in a cast boot, I knew I wasn’t getting genuine treatment so I consulted with Dr Kash. He automatically booked me for MRI scans and other x-ray appointments just to make sure that I hadn’t injured anything else other than the Achilles rupture as with my knee I had other injuries building up inside it. Soon as the results came in, this time round we opted for full Physiotherapy session as opposed to an operation and here I am today feeling good as ever. Just to conclude, Dr Kash knows what’s best for you as soon as he sees your injury; I’m guessing shear talent. I have already recommended 3 friends to Dr Kash who unfortunately had ruptured their ACL too, all 3 have said the same thing about Dr Kash and the outcome is mere duplicate. Thank you so much for all your kind and warm efforts in making my knee and Achilles feel better.

He spent time explaining the issues and ran through his recommendations of what I needed to sort the immediate problems. He also provided a detailed letter to my physio in order for her to work on my rehab. Today, 22nd November, I was discharged by Mr Akhtar. My knee is so much better, and I only suffer an occasional twinge and a little swelling. Following an ACL rupture back in September 2017, I was referred to Kash and I could not be more pleased with the care I have received since then. From the outset Kash laid out all of the options available to me and did not just push surgery as the only option, although this was the route I pursued in the end. This level of care for me as a patient continued throughout the surgery and the post surgery care, right up to my final meeting with Kash where I have now been fully signed off. Throughout the whole process Kash has kept me informed and updated at every turn. He uses everyday terms so you can easily understand what he is trying to tell you, and was upfront and honest with where I was in the process compared to where others he has treated previously have been. Kash is an outstanding surgeon I would recommend to anyone: I apparently had one of the nastiest bucket handle tear of the meniscus he's ever seen in his entire career along with a complete ACL rupture. Kash suggested a staged approach to repair the meniscus first and then do the ACL at a later stage. Before going into surgery, we didn't know whether a repair of the meniscus was possible or it needed to be removed completely. Despite the complex tear, Kash was able to fully repair my meniscus. I am now three months post surgery and, while I need to wait an extra month for impact workouts, I can do everything I was able to do before the injury, have no pain at all and barely had any swelling throughout the past 12 weeks. Finally, this was pretty much my first surgery and Kash was very empathetic and supportive, answered all my (also silly) questions and took me through how the procedure was going to work. Moreover, he got on my case super quickly and after I saw him on the Friday he was able to operate the following Monday - I would not have resolved this as quickly if it wasn't for him! If I need or decide to repair my ACL, I know where to go without the shadow of a doubt.

I first met Kash Akhtar when I was transferred to The Royal London in the early hours of the morning from the P.A.H in Harlow after a traumatic knee injury, the consultant who I was under had been trying to find a surgeon who would operate I think my age (mid sixties) and that I was overweight didn’t help but thankfully Kash Akhtar was the one who took me on and how thankful I am! From the first he seemed very professional but was also compassionate, he told me the procedure and that it would be life changing, Boy! Was he right! But I felt that if anybody was going to help me it was him and I was right to feel that way. He has done a terrific job on my leg, 2 years later here I am, life has changed but thanks to Kash its not as bad as I thought it would be, he has given me the chance to walk again for which I will be eternal grateful, and in being able to walk and bend my leg he has saved my sanity. Every time I have seen him he has been charming friendly and at times he has been funny and seems genuinely to care how things are proceeding, it is a pleasure to see him, he is easy to talk with and he explains everything so well. I could go on forever singing his praises but the bottom line for what he has done for me is as the song goes he is “simply the best” I would have no hesitation in telling anyone with a knee injury or needing a replacement to try their best to see him. The Royal London should be pleased and proud that he is one of their team. Again all my thanks for everything Lynda Davis

hi, Kash operated on my knee after I tore the meniscus badly on holiday. When I first met him, he was direct, and clear - he explained what had happened to my knee, and my choices. I felt that I knew exactly what was going on. I'm now over 50, and I'd heard that complex repairs are not usual practice as one ages, instead it's more common for a quick surgical tidy up or trim of meniscus, and then have more major knee replacement later in life. I was very pleased to be offered the chance of a full repair. The surgery was arranged quickly, and went perfectly. The post surgical care was equally good. I saw him regularly, alongside a physio that he recommended, and with whom he clearly worked closely. Throughout the rehabilitation I felt I was making rapid progress, but safely with no risk of damaging the repaired knee. He stayed in touch directly, and with the physio so that they jointly managed my recovery back to 100%. I'm now looking forward to going ski-ing in the new year. Highly recommended. Andy

My 14 year old son tore his ACL which is an unusual injury for his age and it was difficult to find an experienced paediatric surgeon to treat him. We were referred to Kash who works as an adult orthopaedic surgeon at The Royal London Hospital but he was more that happy and skilled to perform an ACL reconstruction for our son. Within 6 months our son began to re-engage in his sports. Almost 2 years later and he is fully mobile and fully engaged with his athletic activities which include several hours of tennis and football every week. Kash inspired confidence in us from the outset and at a time when we were so concerned about the impact of this injury on our son. He explained the importance of pre and post rehabilitation, but our teenage son was reluctant to carry out his daily physio. In follow-up appointments Kash patiently explained and showed him pictures of the surgery and reconstruction to convince him of the value of physio. We are extremely grateful that Kash so skillfully carried out the operation, involving an 8cm hamstring graft to reconstruct the ACL. And all under our amazing NHS.

The surgery was conducted successfully as planned and the recovery was in line with what we had earlier discussed. Currently i am back to normal activities. From my interactions with him, i consider Mr Akhtar a friendly, patient and listening Doctor who is able to relate to his patients peculiar situation. I highly recommend Mr Akhtar for his good job.

My physio recommend that I see Kash after I was knocked off my bike and suffered some knee pain as a result. Kash listened carefully to my situation and studied the MRI images whilst explaining what he was looking at. Following some quick tests to check which movements were aggravating the knee he quickly established what the problem was and then decided upon the appropriate treatment. I was able to have my knee treated on the same day and as I write this just over a week later the pain has disappeared. I found Kash to be professional, very personable and above all extremely knowledgeable. Thanks Kash!

In March 2018 I tore my right ACL during Skiing. My tennis coach had strongly advised to see Kash immediately for recovery. I met Kash exactly a week after the accident and within minutes of discussing my injury, i knew i was being treated by an extreme professional, kind hearted orthopedic. In our first consultation Kash spent time understanding how important my active lifestyle is & thoroughly explained the importance of rehabilitation before & after surgery if i decide to proceed with the operation. Kash had also accurately predicted I had also torn my meniscus as well as the ACL. By the second review & after an MRI scan, Kash discussed with me in detail about the use of hamstring, patellar tendon & allografts for ACL reconstruction. He also discussed with me the risks of bleeding, infection, scars, neurovascular injury & any future surgery. Kash also explained in the case of performing a meniscus repair during surgery, that I would be in a knee brace for 6 weeks & on crutches with partial or non-weight bearing depending on what was required. With ongoing reviews with Kash, i became more knowledgeable, confident & prepared for the surgery. I was mentally & physically ready, especially knowing i was being treated by Kash. His follow up notes after each review kept me informed & educated throughout my recovery. Kash's attention to detail & drive clearly shows how passionate he is about helping people improve their lives after injury. Kash closely monitored my physio & rehabilitation progress before & after surgery. He recommended cold-compression devices to help with the swelling and daily exercises to keep up at home. I was truly touched to hear his story about my operation after, when he showed me the video & explained that he had also performed a notchplasty. As Kash knew playing Tennis & keeping active was very important to me, he was able to make the decision to repair the meniscus so i could continue with sports in the future. After surgery, I could not wait to see Kash at each review, as i felt re-assured & confident that i was on the right track with my progress. I trusted Kash from the first consultation & today i am back on the tennis court, running again & back to my daily active lifestyle. I will always highly recommend Kash to anyone in need of an Orthopaedic & re-assure them that they are in safe hands. Thank you Kash for my smooth & successful recovery. I learnt so much in the past year & will miss our reviews. Sheena

My ACL was broken from a Ski injury in March 2018. I did my MRI and first met Kash in April. Kash did explain with all the detaims what exactely happened inside my knee, what can be done and if we don’t do it how I can live without a surgery. There was no pressure at all, I had all, all the informations I needed to do the right decision. I decided to do Physio to enjoy my holidays and then to call him if would decide to do the operation and I did. In June, I was mentally and physically prepared, he understood my situation and did an amzing job on repairing my ACL. Before the operation, I was explained exactely what would happen, then after the operation He showed me the video of what happened and I was amazed. He kept all hos words, I felt totally reassured all the way. He is really carefull with his patient and was all the way in touch with my physio to make sure I get the best recovery. 5 weeks post physio now, Kash offered the best knowmedge and guidelines and my recovery is on a great track, I listened applied, he listened and cared about the best recovery for my leg. Thank you again. I feel that I received the best positive care for my knee.

I recently managed to tear my meniscus after tearing an ACL much earlier, for which I underwent physiotherapy 8 or so years ago. I was initially seen by a colleague of Kash, who had arranged for initial diagnosis and MRI done. After assessing my injury and MRI images, I was recommended to see Kash to get his surgical opinion. Kash has, from the outset, been a very good listener and at the first session went through all potential options ranging from doing nothing, repairing / cutting the meniscus only or attending to both the meniscus and ACL. I was naturally very apprehensive about having a surgery, but found Kash very honest and reassuring. He made it clear it is my choice only, and recommended either meniscus only or mensicus and ACL done at the same time. In the end, I decided to get the meniscus injury resolved in the first place and would think about addressing the ACL later. After deciding for the surgery, Kash has informed me of the whole process ahead, what exactly will be done and the time it would take to recuperate. I had loads of questions throughout and Kash had always intently listened and answered all my questions in full. He had also made clear all the potential risks, including that in most cases, my sort of injury could not be repaired. On the day of surgery, Kash had attended before the operation and once again explained what he will exactly perform. This was followed by more nurse visits. After surgery, Kash had been among the first ones to visit, explaining, he was in fact able to repair the injury for which I am very grateful. I continued meeting Kash after surgery to track progress recovering and now, 3 months after the surgery, my knee is back to its former self. All in all, I have only positive things to share about Kash. The whole process, from seeing Kash for the first time, going through all the possible options to repair the injury, through to surgery and post-surgery recovery, has been positive. I would not hesitate to recommend Kash to anybody in need of fixing a problem with the knee. As I said to Kash before, I regad him as a sort of a magician - he has managed to fix my knee to the extent I don't believe anybody else would. And for that, i am very grateful.

Kash provided brilliant professional care for my recurrent knee injury (inflamed TBL and meniscus tear). I am grateful that he was able to formulate a sensible treatment (i.e. physio rather than surgery) that accounted for my sporting event. Kash clearly command specialist knowledge but also demonstrated empathy to explain the physiological aspects of the injury. His admin team ensures the appointments go smoothly so I encountered problem with access. Thank you, Kash, for a job well done.

I was referred to Mr Akhtar with knee pain following a past arthroscopy some years ago. He is full of energy and a positive attitude. I'm pleased to say that he decided that no surgery was necessary, just continued physiotherapy, so a good outcome. Mr Akhtar spent a good deal of time going through the imaging with me, and was careful to make sure that I understood the condition and reasoning behind his conclusion - more thorough than most medical professionals in my experience.

I came to Dr. Akhtar a year ago very disheartened with a fully ruptured ACL and very messy meniscus tear. From the off it was made very clear by Dr Akhtar how risky the meniscus repair would be considering the severity of the injury, with the very real possibility of a reduction rather than a repair. Having been able to repair my meniscus and a successful graft on my ACL, a year on I couldn't ask from more from both the surgery and my experience with Dr. Akhtar. Every check up I have been met great warmth, and someone who seemed genuinely interested in my personal development and progression back to fitness. He has been available throughout this process, making clear he was there if there was anything to go wrong/I didn't feel confident about. Around the 6 month mark I was suffering slight set backs due to over working/spending too much time on my feet and my knee was suffering as a result & after speaking via email, a meeting was set promptly where the issue was discussed and set about fixing. I simply could not have asked more from Dr. Akhtar, he not only fixed my knee, but changed my whole outlook on an injury that plagued me for two years. I am very thankful.

Dr Akhtar is very driven doctor, who has a passion his profession. He was honest about pro and cons of surgery, and appeared very knowledgeable. He showed passion about the surgery (ACL repair that he needed to do), explaining with videos recording what I could expect of it, and how it would progress over time. Surgery was successful; not only ACL was repaired, but also Meniscus was repaired (option for surgery in case conditions would allow it) and cartilage was made smoother. Also follow up consultations were good; he is good in listening and set out a good rehabilitation program.

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be referred to Dr Akhtar, who has performed an arthroscopy on my right knee as I had torn my meniscus running back in October 2017. Physio and PRP injections over a six month period unfortunately did not resolve my condition, so I decided to explore the surgical route. On my first consultation Dr Akhtar made me feel very comfortable and clearly articulated the potential scenarios if I underwent the operation, which gave me confidence to pursue the operation. The operation happened 7 weeks ago and he had to remove 15% of my meniscus and was considered a success. I had a follow up consultation two weeks after that and he showed me what he did as he had videoed the procedure, which gave me confidence that he did a top class job. Since then I’ve been very disciplined with the knee strengthening exercises which has allowed me to start cycling, swimming and running without pain. When I saw Dr Akhtar this week, he was so pleased with my recovery that he signed me off, albeit I will continue to see the physio to further strengthen my knee. Without Dr Akhtar’s skill, empathy, care and precision I would not be contemplating doing the L’etape and Ironman next month. I would recommend Dr Akhtar to anyone who has a knee problem that requires surgery.

As a physiotherapist working in the City I have sent a number of my patients to see Kash and I’ll continue to do so. Every patient of mine that has seen Kash has reported excellent care, professionalism and an all important human touch. Patients often report being at ease after they have met him and find him relatable and friendly. I have found communicating with Kash on patients easy and working in a collaborative way has benefited our mutual patients hugely. With no incentive other than an excellent patient experience, I typically send all of my patients with difficult knee problems to see Kash.

I saw Mr. Akhtar after having a knee injury 2 months ago . My knee was in a very bad shape and had everything that could be possibly wrong inside it. On my first visit , he was very welcoming and heard me out completely with patience as I was very worried and in pain . I had barely any meniscus left and ACL was completely torn resulting in an unstable knee . Kash explained to me clearly what and how things have gone wrong and gave me the options of how to fix it . I was very much convinced after having a chat with him and he gave me date for the surgery as soon as possible. It was a very complex surgery from what i know as it took longer than usual ones . A week later I could tell how better and confident I felt about my knee , Today its been 7 weeks and Mr Akhtar has been in constant touch with me and is helping me with the rehab . He is been Brilliant and I would recommend him to anyone with closed eyes.

After suffering a reasonably complex skiing injury (multiple ligament damage and fracture) and not making the progress I had hoped some months later, I went to see Mr Akhtar for a second opinion. He was approachable, supportive and importantly clinically clear; taking the time to explain his clinical logic. He was incredibly thorough and provided a full assessment and opinion. He reassured me that with concentrated physio, the reconstruction surgery that had been recommended was unlikely to be necessary. Mr Akhtar proactively called my physio to introduce himself, open up communication and guide him on the rehab I needed. Together they created the joined up Clinical / Physio plan that I had been missing. A great demonstration of proactively working together across disciplines to achieve the best outcome. He genuinely cares and his ethos very much supports seeing his patients return to full fitness in the best way possible, not necessarily through surgery. His PA Ella shares this caring abc supportive ethos and was so very accommodating around busy diaries! Mr Akhtar absolutely restored my confidence that I could get back to fitness without surgery and I’m incredibly grateful that I’m now back on track and won’t be missing next season!!! Would highly recommend Mr Akhtar!!

I came to Kash with a running-related knee injury after many months of trying conservative, physio-led treatment. Kash very clearly laid out my options and I felt in a good position to make the decision for myself to pursue surgery. The procedural itself was the removal of an endobutton from a previous ACL reconstruction (not by Kash!), a partial meniscectomy, removal of inflamed ITB tissue and a window sewn into the ITB to prevent further ITB syndrome. Kash made me feel very comfortable before the work and afterwards was pleased to hear that the surgery had gone exactly to plan. I could not be more pleased with the recovery - with a careful physio plan in place, I returned to running 8 weeks after surgery. Four months later I was cycling up mountains, and just under six months after the surgery I was ready for the new track season and ran a 22-second PB in the 5000m - I came back in far better shape than I was before the injury, and will be forever grateful to Kash for giving me back my passion. It's also worth noting that Kash was very easy to communicate with during the rehab phase. From time to time I would get some swelling or discomfort - completely expected after surgery - and I would either communicate by email or by short-notice appointment with Kash, who would offer advice and put my mind at rest when there was nothing to worry about. Thanks Kash!

I fell while playing tennis and injured my knee. I visited Kash who diagnosed that I had a torn meniscus. It was a complex tear. He explained to me the MRI images, patiently showing me where the torn meniscus was stuck under a ligament by the side of my knee. It made me understand why that particular part of my knee would get incredibly painful if I made sudden twists. It was comforting to understand everything and Kash put me at ease by his detailed explanations. Kash explained that while he would recommend surgery in such cases, as I was unsure, actually scared of surgery, I should attempt physiotherapist led treatment as I made up my mind. I tried physiotherapy led recovery for 4 months, but an incident while traveling made up my mind for me that I need surgery. I accidentally knocked a suitcase with my foot while travelling and there was an incredible pain in my knee. I could not move my leg without severe pain and this lasted for about a week. I went back to see Kash who explained in detail the procedure that he would do. He offered, if I was not squeamish, to show me a video of what we would do during the operation to help me understand. It was very nice to know what was going to happen during surgery. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago have no pain in my knee and I am building up my muscle strength. The main thing though, is I feel I have had a quick recovery and I am back to sports again! Some badminton and trampolining in the bag already. I would definitely recommend Kash to anyone.

I’m a 34 years old ex footballer, currently coaching football in a full time capacity. I raptured my ACL (right knee) in April 2012 during a football match. Following my injury I had two ‘unsuccessful ‘ operations at another London NHS Hospital; my ACL raptured again after the 2nd operation and left me in a absolutely devastating place.. I asked my local GP and requested to be seen by a specialist and was referred to Doctor K. Akhtar. Straight after my first consultation in early 2016 I was made to feel at ease and reassured. I needed to have an ACL reconstruction which required two other operations; to which I happily agreed. My first operation was conducted in August 2016 - my knee was cleaned inside and had bone graft injected into my tibia bone. My knee felt brilliant straight away and I could finally walk and coach free of pain. In August 2017 the second stage of the ACL reconstruction was conducted; my knee feels absolutely fine, stronger than it has ever been since my injury. I’m now a fully fit football coach with a positive outlook to life. I am grateful to Doctor Akhtar for his outstanding efforts during these two operations and feel lucky to have had him as my doctor.

I am currently being treated by another consultant at the Fortius Clinic for an ACL revision. I required an emergency knee assessment following a stumble at the gym. As my consultant was unavailable - I booked an appointment with Mr Akhtar. On welcoming me into his clinic, I was put at ease by his warm and friendly manner. Even though this was a one off appointment, he had read through all of my notes and I felt that I didn’t have to reel off my extensive ‘knee story’; I just had to give him a quick update - to which he listened to me fully and gave me his full attention. Mr Akhtar then performed a full knee assessment; he talked me through exactly what he was doing and why he was doing it and was careful not to hurt me. Luckily my knee seemed ok and unscathed by the stumble and Mr Akhtar played an excellent role in restoring my confidence in my recovery.

At my first consultation Kash explained what had happened to my knee and what the various options were and having weighed them up I settled upon an arthroscopy. I had the procedure under a general anaesthetic at 3pm and was able to walk out of the clinic at 6pm, although when spotted by Kash I was told to use the crutches provided. I was given pain killers but had no need for them and the following day when I removed the bandaging I had no swelling. My recovery has been very quick and the whole process couldn’t have been easier. From my first consultation through to being signed off by Kash my experience was better than I could ever have hoped for. I would recommend Kash to anyone and would use him again in a heartbeat.

Kash has explained everything succinctly and sensitively ever since I was first referred to him and I have no doubt that I will be able to return to the same level of activity as I was able to prior to my injury. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Kash to anyone with any form of knee injury as something that really strikes me is that he is clearly incredibly passionate about his chosen field and takes a real interest in finding out about exactly what his patients ultimate goals are from treatment. He was, for example, very clear that I didn't necessarily need to have surgery depending on where I wanted to get to with my knee. After sustaining a knee injury playing rugby, I was informed to get in touch with Mr. Akhtar over a year and a half ago. On first consultation Mr Akhtar was extremely warm and welcoming. After an MRI showing meniscal and ACL tear, as well as osteochonral defects I was rather pessimistic about my recovery. Being a medical student myself, during a busy exam period, he totally understood my position and laid out the options and timeline for my recovery in a clear and honest way. He was extremely understanding and really listened to my concerns and expectations. We set a target for recovery - return to university rugby. Mr Akhtar organised arthroscopy +/- intervention around my difficult university schedule and it really felt as if I was fully involved with the decision making. This made a real difference. Pre and post arthroscopy Mr Akhtar was extremely attentive to explain the pathology of my knee injury and I felt as if I left with greater knowledge as a result. Post operative recovery was eased with regular consultations to track my progress. Mr Akhtar had a positive mindset the whole way through. Now back to playing rugby, we have achieved our target. A year and a half ago I would not have thought this possible. I am grateful for Mr Akhtar's care and attention.

He advised a course of action, including further physiotherapy, gave me advice on activity levels and pain management as well as managing my expectations for time to recovery. He suggested that surgery would be the last option but would be considered if required. I am delighted to say that 6 months on I have made excellent progress under the guidance of Mr Akhtar and Jordane - surgery will not be required and I am on track to be totally pain free in the next few weeks - just need to lose a little weight now to help the process! Having recently injured my knee badly through football, I was fortunate enough to come across an amazing orthopaedic doctor in Mr Kash Akhtar for my treatment. I have had previous experience of meeting various medical consultants both private and from the NHS who have all been good. However. the level of care, service and attention that Mr Akhtar showed me was 'significantly' better than what I have previously received, compelling me to write this review. As a patient I felt extremely comfortable with him, and he showed me genuine levels of care and concern to help me understand the extent of my knee problem and clear pathways of recovery. Both pre-arthroscopy and post-arthroscopy, Dr Kash Akhtar explained in great detail the findings in my knee, and gave me tailored realistic action plans which would help me both short tem and long term in my recovery process. I am a sports person, and feel assured and confident I will be able to get back doing what I love most, because of this wonderful doctor. Everything felt super explained and I know all the next steps if the initial treatment doesn’t work but no uneccesary surgery was advised so yay. Thanks again! And I feel very sure if I do need to go back everything will be as fab as this time!

Despite being a surgeon, his recommendation was for me to avoid surgery as the knee was recovering quite well for daily activities and as I was not aiming to participate in competitive non-linear sports. So far the knee has continued recovering, and I am glad that I avoided going for surgery. If I have knee issues again in the future, the first person I would talk to is Kash.

I was recommended for a physio in Canary Wharf and since the first moment I felt the confidence of a great professional that care about your injuries and your wellbeing. After I made my left knee (I broke my ACL) he was absolutely confident I was going to be able able to play football again. The result of the surgery was perfect as he assured. After some time and regarding the great result of my surgery I commented out a problem I had in the right knee, previously operated in Spain with the same surgery he did. He took onboar my worries, he explored and decided to make another operation on this one. Again the result was amazing and remove the pain and improved the result of the ACL reconstruction perfomed. This one of the best trauma doctors I come across in my life and I would recommend him to anyone with problems in the knees 200%. The treatment, the follow up and how much he cares about my health and injuries is incredible.

I was referred to Kash with an ITB issue which wasn't responding to physio and injections. I'd run a marathon causing it to flare up and hadn't been able to run for 6 months. The first time I met Kash he was very honest with me and laid out my options for moving forward without telling me what I should do. Kash is very personable and has a confidence in his ability that made me believe in him straight away. After some scans and one last try at an injection we decided I'd be operated on. I'd like to be clear in saying I think Kash could have called the operation on straight away but gave the knee every chance to heal without having to have surgery. Again Kash explained exactly what he was going to do and the possible outcomes. He came round just before the op and spent time talking to me and my wife about the op and the recovery, respecting the fact it would effect her almost as much as me. He then came back to see us after I had come round after the op. In the recovery stage I had further consultations with Kash and the first time I saw him after the op he took me through the filming of my operation which was both informative and fascinating. He also gave me the confidence to get rid of the crutches which I did not feel ready for before going to meet him. 8 months on my knee has very almost made a full recovery, I am running again and Kash has advised me on what I can do to prevent a relapse in the future, however, if ever I do have a knee issue again the first person I'd talk to is Kash.

I was referred to Kash after tearing my meniscus in what was the latest of a long list of problems with my knee and it is safe to say that before meeting Kash I had lost all confidence that I would ever return to playing sport. After just one meeting with Kash those fears disappeared - Kash is not only a top-class surgeon, but a top-class bloke who took time to get know you and would bend over backwards in order to help. His confidence, friendliness and hard work makes you feel like your his only patient which, in what is probably one of the most hectic livelihoods, is a rare talent. Kash was clear and confident in explaining the procedure which helped allay any fears that come part and parcel with a surgical procedure. There were minor problems after the op after an allergic reaction to the dressing caused inflammation on the wound of which Kash got in touch and saw me in his free time to make sure all was well, a level of care I have never seen before. I can absolutely say that my knee now feels as good as it has done since I was a teenager 8 years ago for which I will forever be grateful. I could not possibly recommend Kash any more - the guy is a genius - and if - God forbid - I ever need any other surgery on my knee, I know exactly who to get referred to. My only regret is that I was not referred to him years earlier for my other procedures.

I was referred to Mr Akhtar for a suspected knee ligament injury, and have been delighted with his service and care since our first session. Mr Akhtar is consistently friendly and patient - explaining that he suspected my symptoms were the result of a torn ACL and damaged meniscus (later verified by an MRI scan) and talking me carefully through the options and outcomes for patients with these injuries. After plenty of consultation I decided to go ahead with ACL surgery in July this year and have not once regretted my decision. At each stage of the process before and after undergoing surgery I felt completely comfortable to be in the care of a very professional and empathetic consultant, and would recommend him to other patients considering the same procedure unquestioningly.

I was referred to Kash by Function 360 Physiotherapists as i was suffering from crippling knee pain. Kash saw me within a day or so was instantly easy to talk to and re-assuring. Following and X Ray and MRI scan he gave the news i would not need surgery and that a course of physiotherapy would lead to the knee getting back to near normal which has proved to be totally the case, i would have no hesitation in recommedning Kash for anyone having such issues, huge thanks to him.

I feel very fortunate to have been under the care of Kash Akhtar for my knee injury. I'm a GP (and keen cyclist) and sustained a bucket handle meniscal tear earlier this year. I thought that I would most likely need the torn meniscus removed and suffer the consequences down the line. But Kash's approach is to preserve normal knee function as much as possible and he was able to repair the meniscus, giving me a much better outlook in the longer term. He discussed my options thoroughly before the op so I knew what to expect. The operation was a success and Kash talked me through the video of the arthroscopy to help understand the surgery. The post-operative care and advice has been second to none. Kash combines technical surgical skills with great interpersonal skills. As an NHS GP it's interesting to be at the receiving end of NHS care, and I can't recommend Kash, the outpatient staff at the Royal London and the team at the Gateway Surgical Centre highly enough. Thank you.

I have recently undergone an ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair, and have been lucky enough to have had Kash at the helm. I can't speak highly enough of him. Apart from being an obviously highly-skilled, knowledgeable surgeon who's exceptional at his craft, he is a genuinely nice chap! Throughout the whole process - from the initial consultation to post-op consultations and physio recommendations - Kash has discussed, in full detail, every step of the procedure ensuring I was aware of all the options, risks and potential outcomes. The operation went perfectly, and recovery so far has been better than expected. A huge thanks to Kash and his amazing team.

Sadly, after an ACL reconstruction 2 years undertaken in the USA I suffered a discontinuity in the original graft on my return to the UK. I had the pleasure of being referred to Kash Akhtar and have since had a 1st stage revision of my ACL and microfracture procedure completed, with a 2nd stage to be completed in early 2018. Dr Akhtar was professional and friendly during the original consultation. Once an MRI scan had taken place, he was spot on with his diagnosis and recommended a proposed course of treatment in order to resolve the issues with my knee. All the procedures that were going to take place were explained in detail and an extensive rehabilitation programme was discussed, which resulted in 6 weeks non weight bearing in order to improve the results of the surgery. I have enjoyed being in Kash’s care and I have the utmost faith in his ability to improve the current situation with my knee and improve my quality of life after the 2nd stage op. I only wish he could have been the surgeon on for the first two operations on my knee!

I've been very impressed by the friendly and professional approach which Kash takes with his patients. Following ACL repair two years previously, I suffered a meniscal tear this year and was suffering from a new range of symptoms. Kash was recommended to me by my previous surgeon. He was very quick to assess, refer to MRI and have me back in to discuss the options. His preliminary physical examination of the damage prior to the MRI scan was very accurate and the scan effectively confirmed his findings. While he proposed a range of treatment options and potential outcomes, we decided on surgery, which has effectively relieved the mechanical symptoms I was dealing with. Unfortunately, Kash also had to perform a series of microfractures, which, although we had discussed as a possibility prior to surgery and he had my full consent, was at the worse end of the range of outcomes he'd suggested as I had to be non weight bearing on crutches for 6 weeks. He provided good support post op and was very communicative, also very knowledgeable about local physiotherapy services. Having just been discharged from his care, I would not hesitate to recommend Kash to any patients with knee injuries.

Kash was very accommodating and was able to see me urgently after a knee injury sustained over a weekend playing sport. Within 7 days I had my MRI results and a follow up consultation with Kash, which enabled me to recover extremely quickly (along with Physiotherapy). Kash gave me lots of confidence in my knee and as such recovery has been a lot more progressive than it otherwise would have been. Kash's approach is friendly and builds a strong rapport very quickly with his patients which helps to develop a strong relationship and trust which is so important.

I have had a number of knee injuries and surgeries which contributed to my latest injury, the first to be dealt with by Kash. He listened to my complicated history and wasn't overly fast to recommend surgery, which was a first. He outlined all of the options available to me which enabled me to make a fully informed decision. He explained the restrictions I would be under immediately following surgery and the reasons why, before contacting my Physio to explain what repair work had been carried out and how best to support me and my knee going forwards. I felt fully involved in the whole process and as a result I am much more confident in my knee and close to pain free.

Mr Akhtar dealt with my bucket handle tear 4 months ago. On initial examination he gave a clear and simple explanation of his diagnosis which was later confirmed by MRI. He went on to explain my options, removal of the torn meniscus or a repair, setting out clearly the implications of each with regard to risk, recuperation time and longer term outlook. He also made the logistics of the procedure seamless and fast - all I needed to do was turn up. Post operation he provided clear and simple feedback on how the procedure went and gave equally clear instructions as to what I needed to do to protect the repair and avoid a rupture along with rehab excersise. He also wrote to the selected physiotherapist with instructions. After 4 weeks he again communicated with my physio to get a progress update and revised his direction Please to say the op was a success and I feel lucky to have had a surgeon who took great interest in a successful outcome.

I saw Dr Akhtar in relation to my knee injury (ACL + meniscus). I had ACL reconstruction long time ago but recently twisted my knee playing football and was constantly feeling the pain in my knee. Even at the first appointment before seeing MRI scan Dr Akhtar explained me the problem I am experiencing which has been confirmed later by MRI. He also explained me different options to address the problem (physio and surgery) and gave me enough information to make a thoughtful decision. Now the problem is resolved without doing a surgery which some other consultants have offered me. What is equally important is that apart from having confidence in Dr Akhtar's professional skills I also trust him as a person and could feel his willingness to help me.

I'm now almost 3 months post-op and doing very well, my knee is bending so well, better than any of the other surgeons in several countries told me it ever would! The fracture has almost healed after the bone grafting and i could walk normally. I'm so thankful to Mr Kash for this exceptional outcome of my surgery. I could highly recommend Kash to anyone as great professional surgeon and consultant. I have only positive feedback on the entire experience.

I am now almost 4 months post meniscus surgery and back to doing all pre-surgery activities, including running and football. I first saw Kash in November 2016 to discuss surgical and non-invasive options. My preference was for the latter and I spent 5 months following an intensive physiotherapy course. When that didn't achieve the desired results, I opted for the meniscus surgery. Throughout the process, Kash provided the information I need to make an informed decision, but at no point did I feel that I was being pushed in one or the other direction. The surgical procedure itself went flawlessly. My experience suggests that Kash is both a technically skilled surgeon and a thoughtful communicator and I would highly recommend him.

I saw Mr Akhtar in relation to issues I had been experiencing with both my knees. The entire experience from start to finish was a positive one, at no time did I feel rushed and he took his time to take a detailed history before the examination which was followed by a series of scans and x-rays. In the follow up appointment he took his time to summarise and explain what was a complex diagnosis, using language that was easy for me to follow and understand. He treated me with empathy, taking the time to ensure I had understood the diagnosis before discussing treatment options. He was very responsive and prompt to making the agreed follow ups, making the necessary referrals the same day.

I saw Dr. Akhtar for an acute knee injury recently. I had had knee surgery 20 years ago and naturally concerned about longer term issues. Dr Akhtar gave me a long consultation, taking a detailed history, made sure all my concerns were addressed and gave me reassurance at the end that he was pretty sure of the diagnosis but was looking to confirm with scan and x-rays. I had the scans within a few days of the consultation and a follow up session with Dr. Akhtar a little over a week from the initial session. Again Dr. Akthar took the time the explain the (complex) diagnosis carefully to me using the scan images, summarised the diagnosis carefully, made sure I ynderstood and checked I was happy with his recommended course of action. This included phisio and he made sure he understood my preferences on location etc., He e-mailed the phisio within an hour of my consultation with the referral. I liked Dr Akhtar's aapproach to the consultation. He was very reassuring and I never felt rushed, he made sure I understood everything and that my concerns were addressed. His prompt follow ups (scan, phisio etc) really helped assure me that my issues would be resolved quickly.

Mr Akhtar was the first doctor I'd seen about my knee problem who could confidently and clearly tell me what the problem was, and what the solution was. He quickly spotted that my leg muscles had shrunk, as I'd avoided putting weight on that leg since the injury - and he adapted his advice for post op recovery to suit my situation. He performed a meniscal repair (roughly 20months after the injury occurred) and set out very clearly what the post-op procedure would be in terms of when I could put weight on it, how much weight to put on it, when I could bend my knee & far I could bend my knee etc. I'm now 3 months post-op and my knee is recovering well, my leg strength is returning, I'm able to exercise again and I'm starting to losing the weight I put on after the injury!

As a non medically qualified person, Dr Akhtar highlighted details of my issues in laymen's terms, without appearing at all condescending. I was recently referred to Dr. Akhtar following some severe knee pain. Throughout our first appointment, Kash took the time at the start to fully understand my symptoms and where I had potentially incurred the injury. He made me feel at ease and comfortable during the consultation and asked appropriate questions to efficiently understand my injury. He very quickly built up an excellent rapport with me and I was very comfortable explaining my symptoms. Despite having very common symptoms for a relatively minor knee injury, Kash took the time to engage in a full examination and identified the injury quickly and accurately. I was still referred for a full knee scan, which was followed up by an excellent check up. No operation was required, and I was referred for extensive physio. Throughout the follow up appointment, Kash again maintained a very high level of care and understanding and took the time go through my scans in detail to explain why my symptoms were occurring and how best to relieve them. Overall, I was thoroughly pleased to have been referred to Dr. Akhtar and could not have asked for a better consultant. I felt at ease and comfortable knowing I was in the hands of clearly a very knowledgeable doctor. I never felt rushed throughout my appointments and would recommend Dr. Akhtar to anyone who (unfortunately!) needs to see him. Thanks again

I was referred a number of months ago to Kash following a knee injury. Kash was able to build a quick rapport and instantly made me feel at ease. He listened carefully to the issues and was very careful not to jump to conclusions. He was keen to avoid surgery unless necessary and helped me explore all possible alternatives. When, in the end, it was clear that surgery was indeed the only option, he was quick to book me in and ensured I was as prepared as possible, providing a very thorough and honest run through of the procedure and potential outcomes, so that I felt totally prepared. On the day of the surgery itself, he was calm and reassuring, and I felt totally at ease. He is clearly incredibly knowledgeable and it was great to have someone who I could trust completely. Given my injury was rather rare, it was very reassuring to have someone who was so clearly such an expert in their field. The recovery was quick and the scars left are so tiny and much smaller than I can ever have imagined. The follow-up appointments with Kash were great and he talked through the procedure and recovery plan in great detail, really taking the time to make sure everything was ok and that I was clear on my progression path. I genuinely could not have wished for anyone better. He has been thorough and professional throughout, and quite clearly would not rest until my knees had been sorted, which was greatly appreciated. Not only this but he was genuinely lovely and really took the time to get to know me and my injury, and didn't just make you feel like 'just another number'. I was referred to Kash by a Sports practice in the City and was looking forward to meeting him. From our first meeting, I was instantly put at ease by his manner, his in depth explanation of procedures/my options, his honesty and his sense of humour. Bearing in mind I had just suffered a serious injury, I needed some positive advice and, above all, peace of mind that I was in safe hands. I couldn't have felt more reassured after the meetings I had prior to my surgery. On the day of the surgery, I received another in-depth explanation about the surgery before signing the consent form, which again made me feel that I couldn't be in safer hands. I was right. Having had my stitches out yesterday (which I was privately dreading!), I feel like a great weight has been lifted from me. Not only was the experience better than I thought it would be, it was remarkably pleasant! Both Kash and (Geraldine?) the Nurse did an excellent job of keeping my mind off what was going on with my knee and I can honestly say it was entirely pain free. My physio has just seen Kash's handy work up close and has said that he has seen plenty of scars following ACL reconstruction etc. and this is the best surgery he has seen for this procedure. Other than my shaved knee, he would have though I was 8 weeks post-op, not 2. I am overjoyed by the results. It was valuable to have someone so knowledgeable about sport related knee injuries and he was able to put my mind at rest regarding realistic recovery times and how to proceed going forward. I was surprised how honest he was about whether to have the operation – he recommended that I should have it but was not pushy and made sure it was completely my decision after clearly laying out all the options. He ended up referring me back to the physio for a month to try and strengthen it instead – then it was my decision to go back to him and go ahead with it. He made sure to be in constant contact with my physio to ensure I was and have been doing the correct rehab, and also showed me a video of the operation to give me a proper understanding of the procedure he performed. The MRI showed a large loose body floating around in my knee. He took the time to explain the results of the MRI and my treatment options. At no point in the process did I feel rushed to make a decision. It's now almost 8 weeks post my knee arthroscopy, I'm without any complications and I couldn't be happier with the level of care I received during and post-operatively from a highly competent and very supportive team. Mr Akhtar goes the extra mile to update and be updated by my local physiotherapist. My progress has been excellent. I returned to work 2 weeks after my surgery!! I highly recommend him to anyone needing his services.

Having played rugby for over 20 years I have had a lot of experience of medical practitioners in both private and the NHS environment. It is not lightly that I can make the statement that the care I received from Mr Akhtar was the best. I hobbled into his surgery barely able to walk and Mr Akhtar (at a later appointment) told me that he was very worried about my condition and thought that I may have to have emergency surgery. As a consequence, he ordered various scans and sameday blood tests. He really took a close interest in me personally and we celebrated my rapid return to fitness. It turned out to be prepatellar bursitis with the added bonus of a rare placing of gout under the tendon which exacerbated the problem. Throughout my treatment he took time to explain what was going on, answered my questions and was available for any follow ups. It felt like he took a real interest in me as a person rather than merely a client. I would commend him to anyone looking for an Orthopaedic Surgeon and wish him well for the future.

I suffered a PCL tear at the end of September 2016, and was recently discharged following non-operative rehabilitation. Mr Akhtar managed the process and was in regular touch with my physiotherapist, whom he recommended. I saw Mr Akhtar three times within a month of my injury - following the injury itself, following an MRI scan, and for the fitting of a brace. I then saw Mr Akhtar twice more - for an update on my progress in late-November, and for a review three months after the injury, at the start of September. I was fortunate to not need an operation, and this was in part thanks to the quick assessment I was able to get with Mr Akhtar, with a brace ordered for the injury, and physiotherapy alongside my reviews with Mr Akhtar. In particular, Mr Akhtar took time to contact several companies for an appropriate dynamic PCL brace. Though I hope to not have any future knee problems, I would not hesitate to go back to see Mr Akhtar should the need arise.

I have been very happy with the care Mr Kash Akhtar provided to address a meniscal tear in my knee. Unlike the 'trigger happy' general reputation of orthopaedic surgeons (who are renowned for being very keen on surgery straight away), Mr Akhtar proposed conservative treatment options first, to potentially avoid the need to operate. However, sadly physio treatment did not fix the symptoms, so I returned for Mr Akhtar to conduct a meniscectomy. He explained the options and potential outcomes very clearly. The surgery went well and following further physio treatment to strengthen the muscles whose weakness may have contributed to the original injury, 6 months after surgery I am now back in shape running half marathons. The post-operation checkups and communication from Mr Kash Akhtar have also been first class. Should I ever have more problems with my knees, I would certainly use Mr Akhtar's services again.

I am just recovering from a knee arthroscopy in which Mr Akhtar conducted a menisectomy for a torn meniscus and radiofrequency chondroplasty for fairly extensive osteoarthritis. I have had three previous knee operations but never had everything explained to me with such clarity as with Mr Akhtar. In addition to this, it is very evident that he is an extremely skillful surgeon who takes extraordinary care during his operations. This was very apparent during the debrief when he talked me through a video of the procedure he performed on my knee. I would thoroughly recommend Mr Ahktar to anyone needing advice or surgery on their knee. I am very grateful that I had the good fortune to be treated by him and am confident that my knee is now in the best condition it could be in.

I had problems with my right knee for over a year where I was unable to receive a proper diagnosis or evaluation to allow me to play sport without any swelling or difficulty in my knee until I met Mr Akhtar. I explained the symptoms I was experiencing before Mr Akhtar assessed me. I took his advice on board which I'm extremely grateful for as I am now aiming to be back playing sport by Feb 17. Everything was thoroughly explained to me from start to finish so I understood the procedure/ surgery that lay ahead of me and what rehab was required to enable me to get back to playing sport without any issues. I had a complex tear of my meniscus and loose cartilage floating around my knee. Mr Akhtar performed my surgery in August 16 and my recovery so far has been great due to the superb job carried out during my surgery. I've now got full flexion in my knee and I'm now back running on the treadmill and carrying out all of my rehab exercises. I had full trust in Mr Akhtar and would definitely recommend his services.

Mr Akhtar helped me prepare for, conducted, and assisted me after, my ACL reconstruction surgery. Mr Akhtar is clearly a skilled and knowledgable doctor as my pre surgery advice has helped me recover quickly after a surgery that went off without a hitch. What makes him extraordinary however is his understanding of patient care. From the beginning he has made himself fully available to me, even with small questions or concerns, which went a long way to helping me feel like I was in good hands. I would highly recommend Mr Akhtar to anyone.

I recently had a knee arthroscopy/surgery under the care of Mr Akhtar via private care (BUPA). I have absolutely no qualms in recommending him. He is very down to earth and understanding. He is professional yet friendly. He is also very knowledgeable and an expert in knee issues. He explained everything very clearly and in detail. If I had any questions, he would always be happy to answer them. I never felt rushed in the appointments. He also has a very good PA too. Everything has been very easy and straightforward. I have never met such a nicer doctor. He clearly knows what he is doing and is an expert in this field. It has now been several weeks post surgery and I often forget that I even had surgery. Thanks for everything.

I saw Mr Kash Akhtar on a recommendation from my physio for a torn meniscus I had been dealing with in my left knee for two years. We looked at the MRI results and discussed options as to whether a menisectomy or meniscus repair could be carried out (the latter being better long-term but normally only possible if carried out 3 months after the injury). After surgery I was delighted to find out the Mr Akhtar had been able to carry out a successful repair despite the passage of time and 12 weeks later and I am recovering, with my knee going back to how it used to feel many years ago. I would recommend Mr Akhtar as a surgeon.

Kash was an extremely able surgeon who operated on my knee. I am a keen athlete and wanted to get back to sports after a knee operation to rectify a hemorrhaged ACL and a bucket tear in my meniscus. Ultimately 9 months later I am back to playing sports and his skill, guidance and positivity got me back to this point. I am very confident in recommending Kash, he's great.

Following my last review of Mr Kash Akhtar, I would also like to say he has improved my golf tenfold. Since the knee operation I have not lost a game to my friends and even won a competition! If you want to get your handicap down, see Kash!!

I was in great pain after a skiing accident and needed surgery to remove "foreign bodies" from my knee. I was recommended to Mr Kash Akhtar through my 6Physio practitioner. From the moment I met Kash, I was put at ease. I am not the smallest of chaps, but when it comes to needles etc.. I become a mouse! Kash was extremely reassuring regarding what needed to be done from the results of the MRI and I was under the knife within a week. He performed an Arthroscopy but also had to make an extra incision which he said was his first in all the years of performing the procedure! It has been just under three months now since the operation and apart from a little stiffness in the morning, all is well. Kash post op chats and recommendations were again carried out in a highly professional and caring manner. I could not recommend Mr Kash Akhtar highly enough. I will be seeing Kash again next year for my other knee unless my skiing improves!!

From the day we met, Dr Kash established a frank and good relationship with me. After explaining my condition, he stated my options and the uotcome for each option. When i made the decision for my knee reconstruction (ACL+MCL), he supported me from each statge and straight away made moves for the surgery. On the day of the surgery, the whole team was very supportive making you feel that you were the only patient in the whole hospital. The surgery went well and i am now working toward a fully recovery.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Dr Kash Akhtar earlier this year to deal with a miniscus tear in my left knee. Right from our first consultation, I was highly impressed with Dr Akhtar, who comes across as confident, experienced and knowledgeable. He immediately put my mind at ease about all the implications about having surgery and his vast experience in this field led me to have total confidence in him. I felt that I always knew where I stood with Dr Akhtar and had full faith that he was the best possible choice of surgeon to perform my operation. Dr Akhtar's passion for his field was apparent throughout, especially when I saw his enthusiasm to help fix my knee, just before I went under the knife. Follow up consultations with Dr Akhtar were a pleasure and it actually felt like I was meeting with a friend who was helping me out. Ironically, I'm slightly disappointed that I don't have an official reason to see Dr Akhtar any more, as I'm now on the road to making a full recovery. Overall, I had a highly positive experience with Dr Akhtar and would happily recommend him to anyone who is looking for a surgeon passionate about helping you to recover from your injury and get you back to full fitness. He was a joy to work with and I wish him all the best for a highly successful career.

Having torn my meniscus during hockey, I was not sure what to expect from surgery. I had never met Kash, but he was courteous enough to make sure he meets me after I awoke after my surgery. He explained what he did and why - a meniscal repair. He was the same during our followups; explaining the procedure and instilling confidence that all will be ok. Now, after 6 months I am running and lifting moderate weights on legs and am confident that I will get back to my playing days. Kash comes across as a cool guy - he is easy to speak to, is friendly and has a wealth of experience in this field. I would definitely reccommend him.

Going ahead with my acl and minuscul operation, I was reluctant and afraid. After meeting Kash, I could not have been more reassured. His a brilliant surgeon and takes pride in every patient that he meets. His expertise surpassed my expectations. He was brilliant from day one and throughout my follow up appointments. I could go on and say many things but to rap it up his the best out there. I was so fortunate to have him as a surgeon. Keep up the great work Kash!!

Mr. Akhtar is the finest medical professional I have ever met. He is eloquent in delivery and exceptionally knowledgeable in the Orthopaedic and Trauma field. In November 2014 I suffered a serious rupture to the ACL in my left knee. However I had the reconstruction from hamstring tendon graft 6 months later. This was the first time meeting Mr. Akhtar who was to perform the surgery. Immediately he made me feel relaxed and assured but still informing me of the potential issues with the surgery. Post-surgery in my drugged-up state I gave Mr. Akhtar a thumbs-up and within 2 weeks I was walking without crutches. We met again for a consultation 6 weeks later and he was amazed at my progress (although not too happy I came of the crutches earlier than expected.) However I was feeling strong and the surgery was a huge success. I could not thank Mr. Akhtar enough for his services. We would then again meet a few times within 9 months, each time was the same superb standard of service. He would listen to my concerns and give sound advice. Also, even though my progress was going better than anticipated, he would convince me to be mindful of my limits and not push into returning to sports too quickly. I was discharged recently and we were both happy with my development. I never expected this level of service when realising the extent of the injury. Despite the circumstances I have had a delightful experience (sounds strange to call surgery delightful) and that was mainly due to Mr. Akhtar. He has tremendous technical ability and with surgery as I am feeling as strong as ever. His considerate communication with patients is refreshing and had a positive effect on my willingness to recover. All the way through from surgery and complete discharge Mr. Akhtar has been a delight, extremely professional and overall just a splendid individual. I highly recommend Mr. Akhtar, he gave me hope in physical rehabilitation and a chance to get my life back to pre-injury. Thank you Mr. Akhtar.
