Mr Lavnish Joshi is a leading consultant ophthalmic and vitreoretinal surgeon based in Chertsey, Woking and London. He specialises in cataract surgery (including complex cases), intravitreal injections for macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions and diabetic retinopathy, and retinal surgery for macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments and diabetic retinopathy. Furthermore he has expertise in lid cysts, punctal plugs for dry eyes and punctoplasty for watery eyes, as well as laser for retinal pathology and laser for lens capsule opacification.
He privately practises at Nuffield Health Woking Hospital, The Runneymede Hospital and The Lister Hospital, as well as Sydney Street Outpatient & Diagnostic Centre. His NHS base is Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where he set up and leads the surgical retina service.
Mr Joshi is highly qualified, obtaining his medical degree from St George's Hospital and Medical School, University of London. He then went on to train as an ophthalmic surgeon in Birmingham, Surrey and Moorfield's Eye Hospital, London. Mr Joshi then completed his advanced training, being awarded fellowships in Medical and Surgical Retina in Toronto, Canada, and at Bristol Eye Hospital.
Mr Joshi, who also has a masters in Surgical Education, is also a respected name in clinical education. He is a college tutor for ophthalmic trainees and runs a retina fellowship at his NHS trust. Furthermore, he also teaches on the Masters in Ophthalmology at University College London (UCL).
His research has been published in various peer reviewed journals, and he completed his MD at Moorfields Eye Hospital/Institute of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the General Medical Council, Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the British Medical Association, alongside the British & Eire Vitreoretinal Society.
