Dr Michelle McHenry

Professional statement

Dr Michelle McHenry is a consultant rheumatologist based in Belfast. She specialises in inflammatory arthritis, musculoskeletal ultrasound and the use of biologics alongside connective tissue diseases, and privately practises at Belfast Skin Clinic and The Ulster Independent Clinic. Her NHS base is Belfast Health & Social Care Trust (BHSCT), Northern Ireland.

Dr McHenry, who has received five-star reviews from her patients, is a highly-qualified professional with various qualifications from leading medical institutions. She has an MBBCh and MD from Queens University Belfast, and an MRCP (UK) and FRCP from the Royal College of Physicians. She underwent her higher training at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and was awarded a research grant from Lupus UK. 

Dr McHenry passes on her exemplary knowledge to her colleagues through her various clinical educational roles. She is an honorary clinical lecturer at Queens University Belfast and has lectured at the University of Ulster as well as a teacher of undergraduate medical students and is a clinical supervisor of junior staff. Alongside her work in education, Dr McHenry's clinical research is respected among her peers and her work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals. She has also spoken on her speciality research at various national events.

Dr McHenry also has various positions in public associations, including the chair of Regional Biologic Expert Group (Present), convener of Northern Ireland Regional Rheumatology Education Group meetings, Auditor in BHSCT rheumatology department and is the Northern Ireland medical advisor at the National Rheumatology Arthritis Society (NRAS). She continuously undergoes CPD work to ensure she stays up to date with the latest innovations in rheumatism and is a member of various professional organisations, including the Irish Society of Rheumatology (ISR), British Society of Rheumatology (BSR) and the Royal College of Physicians of London (RCP), alongside the British Medical Association (BMA) and Medical Protection Society (MPS).
