Mr Navraj Singh Atwal is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with private practices in Cheltenham and Gloucester. He is a sub-specialist in hip and knee surgery, and provides a wide range of hip and knee surgeries and preservation procedures.
Mr Atwal’s practice covers all aspects of knee surgery. He regularly performs routine and complex knee replacements, including full knee replacements, partial knee replacements and replacement revision surgery.
He is also extensively trained and skilled in knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, sports injury treatment, osteotomy and the treatment of patella dislocations, among numerous other procedures. Additionally, he provides medico-legal services and joint preservation.
Mr Atwal qualified in medicine from the University of Bristol in 2001 and was also awarded a BSc in cellular and molecular pathology. His basic higher and surgical training took place on the prestigious Bristol rotations, which was followed by advanced fellowship training at the internationally North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. During this experience, he developed exceptional expertise in lower limb surgery, including the treatment of knee injuries in elite athletes and hamstring rupture repair.
As well as practising in the private health sector, he also dedicates his practice to the public health sector and he provides paediatric orthopaedic care. His expertise has led him to become the lead for knee surgery at the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Furthermore, he contributes to medical research in the field of orthopaedics. He has a particular interest in the research novel methods of joint preservation surgery, and his latest research includes investigations of nSTRIDE protein injections.
