Professional statement

Mr Ahmed Oliemy is a leading consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, with over 15 years of experience, based in Birmingham. He has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of conditions such as lung cancer, lung collapse, chest infections, diaphragm paralysis, excessive sweating, myasthenia gravis, chest wall and airway tumors, chest wall deformities, and COPD/emphysema.

Mr Oliemy earned his primary medical qualification in 2005 from Tanta University in Tanta, Egypt. By 2010, he had completed his foundation years and core surgical training, and obtained a Master of Science degree in surgery. Between 2010 and 2019, he trained in cardiothoracic surgery. And was then nominated as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in cardiothoracic surgery. Later that year, he was appointed as a consultant thoracic surgeon at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Mr Oliemy specialises in thoracic (chest) surgery, with 90% of his procedures performed using minimally invasive techniques, either robotic-assisted (RATS) or video-assisted (VATS) keyhole approaches. He offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic thoracic surgical interventions for these conditions.

One of the key procedures he performs is limited, lung-preserving anatomical lung resections using robotic-assisted techniques, supported by cutting-edge technology like 3D lung imaging. This method is highly effective for early-stage lung tumours, serving both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
