Dr Alan Fayaz is a distinguished consultant in pain medicine and anaesthesia based in London. His areas of expertise include neuropathic pain, spinal and musculoskeletal pain, as well as pain related to neurological conditions. He also has expertise in perioperative care for patients with complex general pain, along with the use of medical cannabis for pain management.
With over 20 years’ experience, Dr Fayaz consults privately with OS Clinic. He also holds a consultant position at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust since 2016 and he is the chair of the communications committee for the British Pain Society. Additionally, Dr Fayaz serves as the London North-Central regional lead to the Essential Pain Management Advisory Group.
Dr Fayaz originally qualified with a BA from Cambridge University and an MBBS from Imperial College London. He undertook specialist training in general medicine across the Imperial School network before going on to complete training in internal medicine and palliative care during a secondment to the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Belgium.
Notably, Dr Fayaz’s higher specialist training includes a seven-year programme in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine on the prestigious London Deanery. He has accomplished advanced pain fellowships at both Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Barts Health NHS Trust and he also holds an MD (Res) in Pain Epidemiology from Imperial College London.
Furthermore, Dr Fayaz is an honorary associate professor at University College London. He is also a dedicated researcher and serves as principal investigator for the PANDOS study on pain and opioids after surgery, as well as the VERTANICAL randomised controlled trial (RCT) on medical cannabis.
