Mr Anthony Antoniou is a distinguished consultant colorectal surgeon based in London. His areas of expertise include colorectal cancer, anal fissure, anal fistula, appendicitis, Crohn’s disease, diverticular disease, faecal incontinence, and benign perineal disease. Mr Antoniou is highly proficient in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, complex cancer treatment, coloproctology, as well as endoscopic procedures.
Mr Antoniou consults privately at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital. With over 30 years’ experience, he also practises at The Princess Grace Hospital, London Digestive Centre, and St Mark’s The National Bowel Hospital. Previously, Mr Antoniou was appointed as a consultant at The Royal Marsden Hospital in 2006, where he was instrumental in establishing its renowned colorectal unit and introducing laparoscopic/minimally invasive colorectal surgery.
Mr Antoniou originally qualified from the University of Cambridge in 1992. He then undertook his higher specialist training in East Anglia, the South East of England, and London. During his time in London, he trained at King’s College Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, where he also completed a prestigious fellowship in laparoscopy at the Hamlyn Unit. Mr Antoniou holds esteemed fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1996.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Antoniou is an honorary clinical senior lecturer at Imperial College London. Previously, he served for five years as a senior clinical lecturer at The Institute of Cancer Research and was head of undergraduate surgical teaching, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Mr Antoniou has also published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and received an MS from the renowned The Institute of Liver Studies in 2006.
