Dr Arnold Deering is a vastly experienced Consultant Physician based in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Worcester who specialises in general (internal) medicine, stroke medicine and syncope (fainting).
Dr Deering was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen and later graduated from The Queen's University of Belfast. Portora is one of the oldest schools in Ireland, having been granted a Royal Charter in 1608. Famous alumni include Oscar Wilde.
Dr Deering's specialist medical training was at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. In 1991 he was appointed as consultant physician at Cheltenham General Hospital. Dr Deering retired from NHS practice in 2020 but still holds an Honorary Consultant Physician contract with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Deering established the Cheltenham Syncope Service, one of the first of its kind in the UK, in 1992. The service specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of unexplained Transient Loss of Consciousness (TLoC). It also provides tilt table testing.
Dr Deering is a leader in the diagnosis and management of Autonomic Dysfunction (Dysautonomia) including Autonomic Mediated Syncope and Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS). He is also a leader in the diagnosis and management of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
Dr Deering is an International MRCP (PACES) Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. He has published numerous peer-reviewed publications in medical journals.
